Living way out in Colorado, I gotta take advantage to see UND athletics whenever I can get the chance. Hopefully UND schedules a football game agains DU sometime...oh wait, DU doesn't have a football team!

Yah, single game tickets went on sale yesterday on the Wyoming website. I like going to games up in Laramie; it's a fun little college town and the weather should be absolutely beautiful that time of year. The boss (girlfriend) and I will be there for the game, trunk stocked with adult beverages if anyone cares to tail gate. Just shoot me a text if you care to meet up. Dan 701-335-9035

Can't say I'm surprised with Perry leaving-the team is bringing in a high-end recruit who would've likely been competing for either the 1 or 2 spot with Tyler Marble. Like Wade Murphy, I can't blame a kid for leaving a program where he's getting limited playing time as they need to think about their development.

I went to see Jurassic World....I think I'd rather have watched Gopher hockey.

Wouldn't getting Jost be a huge get for UND?!?! And particularly if he chooses the good guys in green versus those crimson clowns off I-25!
-
Any news on the UNO players who left the team?
-
Are tickets on sale yet and if so, where can we buy them?

Why not?

Let's give Haviland a chance to right the ship.

So NBCSN analyst commented that Boesner de-committed from Wisconsin to come to North Dakota. Does anyone know the story behind that? -
George Gwozdecky to leave Lightning to pursue other opportunities

Who here thinks Montgomery will be at DU only long enough until an opportunity arises at one of the power schools of Hockey East? -
Sounds like there's some bad blood brewing between Northeastern and DU regarding this kid's transfer.

I agree with you-it's a great nickname with endless possibilities for logos.

To the points made by RR alums, I agree that most if not all would feel honored by UND using the name; not insulted. Not to mention, if the standard is to avoid using a nickname that's already used by another institution, then 99% of the other colleges and universities should change their names. Colorado College makes no bones about it that they picked Tigers because they wanted to give the impression that they were the "Princeton of the west." Yet, today I don't hear cries for CC to come up with a new nickname.

I just voted for Roughriders. I never, ever thought that as a Grand Forks Central Redskin alum, I'd one day be voting for Red River's nickname to be that of UND's. That said, I have always grudgingly thought 'Roughriders' was a pretty cool name. It's definitely original; I don't know of many other teams who use it other than the CFL football team. It can be shortened by fans to just 'Riders' so that's pretty cool. Plus, I bet some pretty cool logos could be created for this. Finally, "North Dakota Roughriders" flows and has a nice ring to it.

Biggest drawback for each remaining name (final 15)
Godsmack replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
Perfect post. The committee should be ashamed of itself. What a waste of time and what a joke. -
Has anyone checked out ASU's schedule next season? Wow. They'll have their hands full but perhaps that will be great preparation for the future plus since they're an independent it's not of consideration who they play, where they play, etc. Kudos to ASU for their scheduling.

IMO, Most of these 15 names are pretty un-imaginative. In fact, many of them sound like nicknames for middle schools or WNBA basketball teams and frankly that's not an image I'd care to have for our University. I hope Roughriders, Cavalry, North Stars, and just plain ole North Dakota get serious consideration. The rest-are disposable. Regarding "NoDaks" I think we can already agree on the jokes that will be hurled at UND players and fans alike on road trips. Replace the letter "a" with an "i" and there we'll have our new "unofficial" nickname as given by opposing fans to be posted on fan boards, in cheers at opposing barns, etc. I'm pretty disappointed in how this has evolved. I thought UND, in this nickname search process, would have learned from the mistakes of previous institutions who've been in a similar situation (Marquette).

Dave Hakstol Leaving to Coach NHL Philadelphia Flyers
Godsmack replied to Ray77's topic in Men's Hockey
Has anyone been reading the comments at the bottom of the article on nhl.com? There are several, "who???" type comments but of those, there are several Flyers fans who like the idea of bringing in someone new and who doesn't really have any former ties to Flyer hockey. In talking with a friend of mine who's a huge Flyers fan, he's very excited about this coaching decision. -
Perhaps Karl Goerhing?

No score. 14 minutes left in the second period.

Did anyone notice the hit from behind that an Omaha player laid on an RIT player down in the corner in Omaha's zone which didn't get called? Thoughts on whether or not that should've at least been a two for boarding if not a 5 for check from behind? I guess if I'm Wilson I'm hot over that no-call.

Indeed. Melrose even commented that the difference between college and the NHL is that, in college, the ownes is on the hitter whereas in the NHL it's on the puck carrier. Melrose went on to say that he hopes that the NHL will change their rule to be the same as the NCAA's to help protect the vulnerable puck carrier.
