The NC$$ has ok'd pay for athletes directly from the school they attend. A full ride isn't enough. NIL isn't enough. Now schools will be spending your money to pay athletes. I f'ing hate the state of college athletics right now.
That raises a question. Do college credits from Canadian universities transfer to American universities? it seems assumed that all CHL players would come in as freshmen but maybe some are taking online classes and could be sophomores, etc.??
I did some research on an 0-1 visa, and it looks like a couple of requirements are a job (or job offer) and demonstrated achievement. It looks like a huge stretch for McKenna to qualify.
How about each athlete gets one transfer but must sit out a year. This would stop the players that develop well at their original school from jumping ship after their junior year. This would be a little tricky for students that graduated in three years that want to transfer to another school because their current school doesn't offer the desired major. Case by case basis maybe.
Toews did not bring the cup to GF, which is disappointing since he's from Winnipeg and had three chances to do it. And he doesn't seem to hardly ever mention UND in interviews. He could be a great ambassador for the school and hockey program.
