Nice work on the recap Schmidty. When I took the ACT the average score was around 19 or 20. For a rural public institution to make a rule like this makes no sense. I would think at least 1/5 of the current student body would not be admitted. I wonder if the rule would only apply to out of state students? This would still hurt the sports recruiting. I believe most schools make exceptions for atheletes in there admission requirments. As an undergrad at NDSU some of the football players functioned at about a 3rd grade level.

I think Massen needs a few games to try and get his legs back. But who should sit for this to happen? Our fifth line would be a lot of D1 teams second line. What I think is amazing is that the Sioux are leading the country in goals per game without the offensive output of last years leading scorers. Namely, Massen, Schneider and Lundbohm (although he is picking it up). ZP is also down a little offensively, but he is a better 2 way player this year. He may be the best 2 way player in the country. It was interesting listening to the Devils scout on the radio last weekend talk about ZP, he seemed to think ZP is more of a defensive forward. Schneider is probably the surprise of the year. He must not be at 100%. I understand the offensive output is not there because he is not getting the powerplay time he was last year, but his defensive struggles are surprising. I think some of the problems stem from trying to cover for Smaby. I don't like to speak ill of any Sioux players, but he has not impressed me at all. He is big and good in the corners, but he cannot make an outlet pass and he cannot shoot the puck. The talent is there, but it looks like he could have used a year playing juniors. Next year the D-men are going to be fighting for ice time like the forwards are this year, with Beaverson and Radke coming in, and nobody leaving. What does this have to do with Alaska? I guess the cold medicine made me lose focus. I say we sweep them and Fournier doesn't play after eating a tainted RP grinder.

Funny how TSN says where all the players currently play except the college players. I watched the game on TSN and the announcers talked about how the US team only has 3 CHL players on the roster, and that favoring college players hurts them. They sounded like some Americans I've heard complaining about how Canada favors CHL players over college players. Did anybody else watching TSN catch that Molston commercial with Neil Armstrong getting hit in the head with a puck while walking on the moon? That had to be one of the funniest ads I've ever seen. I love Canadian TV, the Red Green show is the most underrated progam ever made.

usahockey.com just went down, on my computer anyway. I'm going to BW3 for lunch, they should have Center Ice.

It appears in SCSU's administrations quest not to offend anybody, they are in fact offending several people. From the SCSU fans I know they are embarassed of the PC actions. Personally I am offended that they will not use the Sioux name. I lived in Bloomington last year, the game was broadcast on channel 45 but the announcers could not use the word Sioux. One announcer refused to go along and was escorted out of the press box. Not sure what happened to him. Kurt Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron should be required reading for the SCSU faculty and administration. Then again they are probably to dumb to get the message.

Pairwise 7 of the top 11 teams are in the WCHA, if this holds up through the end of the year would they all actually be selected to play? Personally I see either Denver SCSU or Duluth slipping out of the rankings, but it would be great if all 7 stay this high throughout the rest of the season.
-
Is that the Peluso from Bismarck that played for Duluth? I thought he had a good chance to become a NHL regular with the Hawks.

Slovakia tied the Russians 2-2, shots were 33-28, sounded like a close game. Sweden should have a good team, but I don't expect they would be much better than the Slovakians or Russians. I think the Swedes play the Russians today, maybe the Russians are having a down year.
-
IHF This site has all the updated stats from all of the games in the tourny. The Russians tied the Slovaks. Canada up 1-0 over the Fins in the 2nd.

When you have a team that has not played together like this, most coaches make the lines with players that are familiar or complimate each other. With the All-Star like format of the team, I'm not sure the number of the line = the skill of the player. I would be surprised if Eaves doesn't play lines 1-3 equally, if not all four. From what I've read Fleury is a stud, hopefully he can stay away from the drink unlike the other Fleury.

Booth Diary Sounds like the team was still getting over jet lag. Also sounds like it it going to be tough to adjust to the environment, except for the players from Alaska. I've never experienced being that far north in the winter, but I can imagine having 20+ hours of darkness can make you a little sluggish. Nice translation of the Finnish DMT.

I know Junior "the retard" Lessard is DMT's favorite Bulldog. I believe he is the player we saw giving an interview in between periods of game. He could have easily been mistaken for a "developmentally disabled" person. Although I think his poor english was the main reason for him coming across so dumb. At least I hope that was the reason. BTW Don't kids in Quebec learn English?

Three kids out until December 23? Sounds like they were all busted at the same party What is it 6 weeks for the first offense? I thought those Catholic kids were all choir boys

My bad w/ Fylling they had him listed on the roster and had a player w/ that number was on their 3rd line. I should have assumed it wasn't him - high school rosters are wrong about 1/2 the time, in Fargo anyway. Shanley was fun to watch, they had a lot of kids I coached on their team. Central did a good job shutting down Graalum, I would like to see him play against a slower team like North, he looked like he could dominate the play. Does he normally play F or D? He played both when I saw him, mostly D but I know Shanley was missing a few players so he may have been filling in.
-
0 in hockey anyway. Their best years in the early 90's were the same years Bloomington Jefferson had their best years. I think BJ and Moorhead played in 2 or 3 title games with Jefferson winning all of them. I don't know about Moorhead being the largest school in the state. Bloomington Jefferson and Kennedy appear to be much bigger, also Edina, Eden Praire and some other metro schools are probably bigger.

I saw Shanley play Central last week, I thought Graalum was fundamentally as good as any high school player I've ever seen. It was kind of hard to tell though because Shanley didn't have a lot of talent, which made him look better than he probably was. I thought the younger Fylling was pretty average, but seeing one game is not enough to make a good opinion. I saw RR play South last night, South may be as good as Central. Weisgarber, a sophomore was their best player, he is probably going to be one of the best in the state this year. He definately has the potential to play D1 hockey, reminds me of Cory McLean from North who is on the first line at Notre Dame.

The forum had their high school hockey preview today Forum Article Scroll down to the bottom and check out Moorhead, looks like they are back to where they were in the early/mid 90s. They have several D1 prospects. It is nice to see the USHL trend dissapearing a little bit. I think the High School Elite Tourny they have Sept - Nov really helps keep MN players in high school, at least in the bigger schools. Also GF central has a few potential D1 players still on their team. McIntyre and Moreland both look like they have the potential after a year in juniors. It would be nice to see the Sioux land some of these kids, it is always nice to have some local players on the team. Any other local talent around?

It is true Bobcats Roster Also Morgan Simonson is playing for Lincoln. Central is still most likely the best team in the state. I've seen them play twice. The first time I saw them DB was watching the game. The second time I saw them Hakstol was at the game. They were probably looking at McIntyre the leading scorer in the state last year, who turned down playing juniors.

Bolter This is the TRF level 3 - his crime was basically statutory rape - victim was between 13-15 yrs old. Note he was only 18 when the crime occurred. Also note he was sent to Oak Park, they only send inmates that cannot be contained in other facilities or inmates that committed particularly bad acts. I had the displeasure of working there a few weeks, about 35% are serving life sentences; over 60% are in for murder. They don't send 18 year old rapists to this place unless they did something else, my guess he caused problems at the medium or minimum security prisons and refused to go through sex offender "treatment".

They let this pervert out in the late 70's and he attacks a women right away. What in the hell was the State of MN thinking letting this guy out w/out any supervised release. He must have spent his entire sentence in prison, and their hands were tied. I hope they have enough evidence to convict him, sounds like they had a good idea he was the one who did it from the beginning. At least I hope they did, cell phone signal was in area he lived, with his past bells, flags and whistles should have been going off in investigators heads. Lets hope they turn the case over to the Fed's and the AG seeks the death penalty.

I believe USA hockey officially announces the rest of the team today. It should be on the usahockey.com site this afternoon.

Paul Martin This is what has changed from last year. Martin was an incredible player and a huge loss to Minny, add some injuries, namely Ballard and there are some big holes at D. I watched both games this weekend on TV and thought the D are starting to look good. Minny dug themselves in a big hole, but they are a very good team and should finish the season strong enough to make the NCAA's. Once there they will lose to St. Cloud or Duluth
