  1. I really do not care where they recruit either, BUT, there are probably 15-20 legit D1 players each year in So. Minn. HS BB here is really a year round big deal with the Salvation Army gym summer league in St Paul, AAU programs, various camps etc. Wisc., U of Minn, Mich State and other Big 10 and midwest schools take most of the first liners, but there are others, perhaps a notch below the top players for the big time programs that UND should begin to start picking up. Anderson was one, but there are others and there is no reason that UND cannot recruit with UNI, NDSU, SDSU, etc. in this area. Maybe he is trying, but Jones may be missing out on a prime recruiting area only 300 miles away where a kid's family can travel and see them and they can get home on weekends. I am just saying it is strange, the small number of BB players UND gets from this area especially now as a D1 program. Perhaps the "hockey school" label is against us.
  2. Haugen and Wilmer to me are not D1 talents. Anderson is valid as is Brekke and are pleasant surprises. I am talking about more legit midlevel D1 talent from the big suburban schools or inner city schools in the MSP area i.e. Anderson with size. Surely UND should be able to out recruit some of the small D1 schools that these kids go to in the Carolinas or the mid south. All I am asking for is one, maybe two big time kids out of the MSP/so. Minn. area each year, not a full roster. NDSU and UNI and other schools are doing it. As the closest major metro area to GF it seems ludicrous not to have a highly visible recruiting presence here every year. Only one D1 BB school in the state of Minnesota, got to be lots of kids showing interest in regional schools like UND with the BSC membership. I am too old to simmer down.
  3. Let's see, Minnesota just had their boys BB tourney, 4 classes, 8 teams per class, 12 or more kids per team. Minnesota has provided starting players to numerous D1 programs, some outstanding players for years. Out of somewhere near 200 boys BB players in the tourney, UND, in a neighboring state, with a D1 BB program next year eligible for the NCAA tourney, came up with ZERO this spring (so far anyway)! That to me is totally amazing. In addition there are probably another 200 players on some good teams that did not make the tourney. Is this strange or what? We recruit Minnesota for FB, WBB, W and M Hockey, track, Baseball, softball etc., but ZERO MBB players. Am I missing something?? Doesn't Jones realize there is a state between ND and Iowa with talented BB players? You would think we would get one or two a year just by accident!!! There is some sort of HS BB event in Eagan in April with all the best kids invited. Does Jones plan to attend?
  4. To all you fans that want UND to prosper both athletically in the BSC, NCHC, and NCAA. To those who want UND to be respected academically as a research and teaching university: Arguing with certain folks on here is just a waste of time. I have finally come to realize that certain people will just not ever get it. I won't mention names, but we all know who they are. I for one am going to quit posting against their idiocy.
  5. Dave, Dave, you are so naive. I am 65 years old and I want to see UND play Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin and other schools of that stature and play for NCAA championships in other than hockey. I want that to happen asap because who knows how long I will be here to see it. I grew up in GF and walked as a kid at 20 below zero to the unheated "old winter sports" building prior to even a conception of the "old" Englestad arena. We played cards on cement block on the ground waiting for General Ad. tickets as Jr HS kids. I walked to UND BB games thru snowstorms, FB games, BaseB games from my house near campus. I grew up on campus and UND sports was my favorite pastime for years. I am a Sioux fan thru and thru, BUT it is time to let the name go!!!! Join the 21st century. No one save a few narrow minded folks like yourself consider it worth the cost! Wake up before you are watching UND play NAIA schedules in all sports and the prestige of the university gone forever!!!
  6. Yeah, I am really really old, graduated over 40 yrs ago from UND and I am liking these more and more as I look at them. As you say the green stripe and the white nos. on the sleeve are nice. Name on back agree. Do not want to see an all black road uni though.
  7. A JUCO or TWO is a must to get really serious about next year. Too late to bring in any big HS talent for next year and maybe even the year after. Someone in this men's program needs to gain some recruiting skills and sell this program to a big kid or two. I am so darned tired of seeing only guards and small forwards!
  8. Yes, actually I meant to say WCHA final five and NCAA. If they cannot beat BSU at home in a 2 out of 3 then the season should be over, period.
  9. If UND does/can not take care of BSU then they should not be in the WCHA tourney anyway. Sorry, but that is the way it is, reality. Cannot wait for FB season.
  10. I agree, UW has been a difficult team for UND, one of the few that have a winning record overall. Eaves always seems to come up with a way to get the most out of his guys against us and they can be very good when the games really count. Not discounting BSU, but this helps us a bit and if UW goes to Denver?, could be very interesting.
  11. I do not recall how often I agree or disagree with DaveK and it does not matter, but I too do not want black FB jerseys either, reminds me of the Cinncinnati Bearcats team every time I see even a partial jersey in black. I appreciate the reason for using the black hockey jerseys for special games, but I think a steady diet of them would be ugly. I was given one as a gift and I often wish it was green or white. I do not get to many games in GF so am restricted to watching mostly on HD TV. The green and white contrast is so much nicer with some black accents or piping, to me anyway. I have seen the black BB jerseys on TV and in person on the road and I think they are awful.
  12. Yeah, when I think of where I want my grandkids to go to college I think about Western Illinois, UNI, IUPUI, UPFW, SIU, Illinois State and Indiana State first right out of the box. I would much prefer any one of the 4 Dakota schools to these high rollers. I have hired grads from the 4 Dakota schools, Montana and Montana State, but would not even think of recruiting the rest of the Summit. But you are right, the travel and distance is an issue.
  13. UND would still be waiting for Doupley or whatever his name is to make up his mind about admittance. Resolving the name issue if it happens and joining the BSC likely was the best thing for UND since going D1. Time will tell, but the other 3 Dakota universities fit better there too if you look at their overall academic missions vs the Summit and MVFC schools.
  14. Maybe it is time for Huff to go in spite of his talent. Private school in an upscale suburb of Milwaukee may have allowed him to be bigger than the team. Just saying, maybe.
  15. I guess the beaches and palm trees of Fargo are not enough of an enticement.
  16. Don't forget Fabulous Fern's just west of Moscow on the other side of the street, bar and nice dining, reasonable and close in. Sioux fan in MSP and go there once a week. Not a hot bed, but good food and reasonable prices with popcorn etc. If you want to go upscale LaGrolla right across the parking lot is wonderful. Sunday brunch too. Also, another place is nice is Woodfire Grill across from Reid's, more $, but good food etc. And Mo's Burgers, all good choices within walking distance of the X. On the other hand for the future, was in Omaha a week ago. Also a great spot for the NCHC final whatever. Really impressed with the old market area. Had not been there for 40 years. Could easily be happy with a new venue for the NCHC there.
  17. Iowa fans come to the Twin Cities with $50 in their pocket and one pair of underwear and reportedly they do not change either before going home. Old story from Sid Hartmann.
  18. I did, and I am still having fun watching as UND is closing the gap even though 5 years behind. Things will even out over time. They always do.
  19. Let's see how arrogant NDSU is in a few years when they come back to earth with an average season or two in FB. It is pretty easy to be arrogant right now, but these things cycle and there will be years when things do not go so well. There is nothing in the water that makes NDSU any better over time than anyone else at the FCS level. Enjoy it while it lasts. Fame is fleeting.
  20. First of all I disagree with everything you say on here. Secondly, I would suggest that instead of spending time on here that you either go back to HS and learn how to write or take a remedial English class so that you can even compete in your first year of classes at UND. I for one would not even admit you. I spent over 40 years hiring and firing folks in a Fortune 50 corporation and believe me with the skillsets you demonstrate on here you will be virtually unemployable. So go focus on something else and quit wasting everyone's time.
  21. No, but Saturday nite's game is on channel 623.
  22. Just looked at airline schedules from nearest airport to Longwood, Richmond, Va. Brutal return trip, probably brutal getting there too. Gotta cut the kids some slack. This trip should have never been scheduled. Hopefully next year this type of trip will not be necessary with a lot of stops and few departure time options. Still do not like the black uni's. Good win considering everything I guess.
  23. 67-59 final for UND win. Longville only had 7 players and could have won the game as UND did not look sharp as usual the last 10 minutes. No size, no confident outside shooters. Longville played zone the whole game and dared UND to shoot. This program needs some help.
  24. Everyone on here, especially the NDSU faithful assume that they will be 11-1 or 10-2 every year henceforth. Well, reality says that there will be some down years at 6-5 or maybe worse for either or both schools at some point. When that happens the game betweent the two could be THE big game of the year. It is one thing to spew all this rhetoric when you just won a NC, but let's see how it all plays out when both schools have a mediocre year or years. The Bison have been on a roll, but they have come back to earth before and it can and likely will happen again at some point. Same with UND. The future is really going to be interesting.
  25. I do not want to be too hard on the players, but this stat is ridiculous and is on the staff for not bringing in some size and whatever else goes on on the road. This program is in real trouble. Not sure who to blame, the kids need some help and the staff is not doing the job to do it. I guess bottom line that Jones has to go, and the sooner the better. I would not give him one more year. He has had enough time to make his case. Lots of good young BB coaches out there that would like the oppty, but is MONEY the issue?
