  1. Hunsaker had a very legitimate beef with the clock operator. Anderson had the ball for at least a second before the clock started. Not a chance Mitchell gets the shot off if the clock was started on time.

Jones could have had an equal beef with the officiating at the end as there was a lot of contact on Anderson's shot with no foul call. If you call it on Brekke at the other end, you have to give Anderson that call in return. As it is, things worked out well and Mitchell makes one of the biggest shots of his career in his final home game.

  2. The students who showed up to the basketball game were given priority line tickets to get into the hockey game first. Smart thinking by the athletic department and NoDak Nation. Hopefully winning in such an exciting fashion makes them want to come to more games this fall.

They've been doing this for the whole season, any time there was a basketball game (men's or women's), or women's hockey game prior to men's hockey they'd do the priority seating for those who attended. However, it had no noticeable impact for other games that I could see. It's still a great idea and needs to continue(no sense students standing outside of a building waiting when they could be watching/supporting another team).

  3. Take note of the time of the game that he decided to try showing off as well. UND was up big and it was early in the 2nd half. He likely thought that he should've been given free reign to "showcase" his abilities instead of just continuing on with what was working in the first half. I really think it was a planned thing of his coming out of the lockerroom which just shows the kind of attitude and "get mine" approach to the game that is far too prevalent, not just a Huff thing.

He plays within the gameplan and along with his teammates, he can be absolutely amazing and a very dynamic player. But he can't constantly try to force things and think that he's far superior to everyone else. Team defense will almost always shut down a single player and that has happened over and over this year and yet he won't learn. Hopefully his teammates can help him figure it out as well as try to get him to reason things out and stay.

  4. I think that going with black jerseys or the matte helmets could look cool if done right (as with most things), but I also think that it would help get some more excitement into the program from the younger crowd. The students love seeing the black hockey jerseys at home, and they would love seeing something new with the football team I'm sure. Plus think of the recruiting, recruits see players wearing edgy/cool new jerseys and it's just another thing that could work to help get them here.

  5. It's not the name that is scaring off recruits, it is being on NCAA sanctions. No hope of home playoff games is a major turn-off. Constantly having to be associated with a school under sanctions, turn-off. Why would you want to go to a sanctioned school when there are other, non-sanctioned schools recruiting you? So therefore, the recruiting reason is very valid and far from BS. You've heard this from Mussman (having gone through recruitment) and Lennon (outside perspective now). To claim it's not affecting the athletics here is BS.

  6. I think regardless of Mollberg's potential right now he would be better suited to redshirt this year. I want to see what Comes, Bradley, and Hanson can do during spring practices. Hanson definitely has potential and adds excitement that he can take over right away, Comes was identified as the offensive scout player of the year and there was some good talk about him coming out of high school, and Bradley has had a full year to get acclimated to the FCS level of play, lift some weights, and hopefully make progress. It's easy to forget that Bradley was still quite young last year.

As it stands I'm interested in seeing the winner of this 3 qb race, and then redshirt our young QB's we recruited this year. Give them a year to get used to not only the system and the speed, but also give them time to get adjusted to being away from home and the university way of life.

  7. Al Carlson fits the bolded portion of your quote but still felt the need to take it upon himself to do what he felt was the best for the University.

John Hoeven was busy creating a giant oil reserve in Western, ND.

Do you really think he was doing what he thought was best for UND or did he simply take advantage of a volatile political topic to create a better image for himself as well as enable him to take a shot at the SBoHE?

  8. I think the administrator of this website should take Goon's blog off the front page. If Goon wants a platform for his radical political views he should create a separate blog that isn't linked on the front page of this site.

I know this post has no place in this thread, but Goon's politics have no place on the front page of this site, either.

Methinks you complain too much, if you don't like his view, don't read it. But I think we should keep this forum for a discussion about hockey. There are other boards here for bringing this up.

  9. I hope Fullerton's comments can knock some of the BS out of these petitioners. I argued with one on Saturday of the Wisconsin series and he was actually trying to spout off some of the crap that Fullerton flat denied in his comments. It is dirty tactics to try and force their hands and ultimately it hurts the school which I call my alma mater and which I still currently attend.

  10. So it took 2 days to come up with jerseys that don't even resemble the color scheme of the University? I thought people that played in band we're pretty smart. :whistling:

No that's two days to come up with a design, get them to the shop, and then wait about 2 days for them to come in. So really probably just a couple hours at most to design something basic enough to arrive on time.

Unbelievable the amount of dislike/hatred for the band when they are volunteering their time to add atmosphere to the games (and not just the hockey games).

  11. If they look like the bands new jerseys. I will be soooo embarrassed. I just hope they look decent.

From what I've been told by one of the band members, the school gave them only about 2 days to get those jerseys and so the design was very limited and very rushed. They weren't too enthused about it either.

  12. Sorry but 21 turnovers does not sound like a coaching issue, that sounds like a player issue. Simply inexcusable either at home or on the road.

Another note while listening to the game, as attrocious as we sounded with turnovers and free throws, the officiating sounded pretty terrible as well.

  13. First football home game of the year with halfway decent weather and you'll have people turning out to watch whoever and to tailgate. Doesn't really matter if it's that good of a game. You think a large number of fans show up because they want to see a good game or decent competition? A lot of casual fans will show up for the gameday experience, and the first game of the year offers that, as does the Potato Bowl, which is why those two games are usually the most heavily attended regardless of competition.

  14. You bring up a good point on Schuler. Does anyone know why this kid stands in the corner so much without moving. Im sure he's doing this because that is what he is told. Obviously the guards are suppose to penetrate and when his man helps a dish is suppose to go his way. What I have noticed is Schuler's man does not leave him at all. Last game they were even face guarding him so he could not touch the ball. A couple of games he was moving alot and coming off screens and scoring. Last game he was back to standing in his corner. Doesn't make sense to me. He is our best pure shooter and needs touches and shots to get into a flow. Just curious if anyone knows.

I agree with the movement on Schuler. I think he is best utilized kind of like a Rip Hamilton with the Pistons for the longest time, keep him moving and constantly off-ball screening for him. You give him one good look at the basket from around 10-12' and it seems to be a guaranteed basket. I'd just like to see more of this integrated into the offense.

  15. I think the number of 3's taken in a game should be a reflection of how well we can establish a post, or how tough the opposing team is playing in the paint. If they are giving up the three point line, then we should expect a higher number to be taken out there seeing as how they are good looks at the basket. Now if they aren't going in, then that becomes a problem and either you try to shoot through it (doesn't always work) or else you have to force the issue down low (which can present similar problems).

I think it is best to preserve a balance, take the 3 if you have a good look at it, but don't fall in love with it. Against NDSU I thought we had the balance that we needed, establishing Brekke down low early on and then shooting from the outside to keep the defense honest and from collapsing too hard into the lane.

  16. I sure didn't know about any back problems, either, and didn't meant to imply that he did. Just stating why another school (as well as the University of Iowa :silly: ) supposedly backed off of recruiting him. Here's their spin my source.

Ok, that was painful to read. The arrogance spewing out of there is just too unreal. Can those fans actually believe all that crap?
