  1. I think it was a little more than Bradley having one bad game. I believe he only threw for more than 150 yards once, averaged just 122 yards per game in the six and a half games he played, completed just 52% of his passes and threw just 3 td's. By contrast, Goska averaged 222 yards per game in the four and a half games he played, completed nearly 60% of his passes and threw 9 td's. It seems weird that the guy known as a running quarterback had significantly better passing numbers than the guy who was brought in to be the passing quarterback, but I fully acknowledge that Bradley could very well improve with another year in the program.

I fully expect Bradley to improve before next year. He was transitioning from a much simpler, more wide-open offense than what we ran. I believe the team he was coming from a league that limited the amount of practice times team could have and so he was competing against much more vanilla offenses. The complexity of defensive schemes likely contributed to a steep learning curve for this season. He showed flashes of ability and was hurt by drops early on in the year as well. With that said, the switch to Goska proved to be the best thing for our season, although it certainly didn't look it at times.

With Goska being a running quarterback and with what we saw out of him last year, he really improved on his accuracy and throwing ability over the off-season. I'm a bit surprised we didn't see more runs out of him through the second half of the year, but that doesn't really disappoint me. They ran him as a change of pace, but let him stand in the pocket and throw.

I'm excited to see what sort of team we'll have next year. Our running game should be even better with the returning talent in the backfield and on the offensive line, and if any of our quarterbacks can be just enough of a threat to keep teams honest, we could enjoy quite a bit of success.

  2. Duquesne kept themselves in the game for quite awhile with the 3 point shot. Not sure what sort of percentage they shot there but it had to have been high. I give our coaches all their due credit, but I still find myself questioning the decision to stay strictly in zone for most of the game except the final minute. The way to beat a zone defense is to be able to shoot the three, the Dukes proved it and yet we never adjusted and they kept getting open looks.

Still it was a great win and got pretty exciting there at the end. Loved what I saw from Buck all game long and she was definitely player of the game. I also like Charnay Mothershed against the press. She has great ball-handling skills and makes good decisions. Brianna Williams needs to watch and learn from the senior.

  3. In some defense of the students, there were a lot of people that didn't show up this last game and throughout this year. With that said, yeah, the student section sucked and continues to suck for just about every sport besides hockey (of which it is still down a little from last year). There was a Great West championship being played for volleyball and I saw hardly any students. There was a women's hockey game following that, again barely any students (hell, barely any fans). Today at the women's basketball game I would be surprised if there was even 20 students there total (excluding the band but hey, maybe including them). Something has to be done and it starts with active student organizations trying to make these events that students WANT to go to. Whether they are lazy or just apathetic, it is disappointing to see.

  4. Lets look at reality here. This is for the share of a toilet bowl conference title...yes it has been a great conference this year. However the term great west still doesn't bring fans into the stadium. No one cares if we win the great west. Yeah it looks good, but I believe winning the Great west brings in recruits or fans. Two years from now, the stadium will be packed again for the Big Sky. See you all there on saturady.

    Devil's advocate:

Two years from now what will we be getting excited for, just another measly FCS conference game. Try 20 years from now, the stadium will be packed for the Big 12.

I could care less what conference we are playing for. The fact is that we are actually competing for a conference title in a year that we have no chance of playoff eligibility and we have already exceeded a large number of expectations, regardless of the fact that we still have trouble completing the forward pass. This is a game against a rival team that not only holds meaning as a rivalry game, but also holds meaning for being able to put a conference banner up, and to top that off it's also the last game for the group of seniors that has stuck out this transition even though they had "nothing to play for."

  5. Listening on the radio, sounded like Wilmer was sick with something or had a case of food poisoning, can't remember which. I think Gentry only got a couple minutes but not very much. I really liked what I heard about this team tonight. ISU put up 74 against Oklahoma this weekend, then come up here and we hold them to 47, that sounds like some good defense. They were also able to play very well against 7'4" center, even without Wilmer.

I'm feeling good about this team, they are athletic, playing within the offense, and it sounds as if they are attacking the boards a lot more than last year. We have solid depth and can get quality scoring from several people.

  6. But.......thats why the games are played. Nothing more exciting than an upset.

Just ask Boise State about this. I bet they are all sorts of excited ;)

I get what you are saying though. Upsets keep the games actually being played rather than just simulated on computers.

  7. Well I think we'll see those offensive rebound numbers go down. We had a good size advantage on Waldorf. If they keep up that intensity against similarly sized opponents, they probably will increase offensive rebounding. From my perspective, offensive rebounding is a matter of mental disposition to getting nasty and doing what it takes to secure the ball. We were a very young team last year without that mentality, hopefully a year has helped them sharpen it.

  8. I would like to see the series continue with USD, especially if we both have the dates that we can have open for this. Get rid of SDSM and replace with a home/home with USD is a win in my book.

  9. Well the Waldorf game looked about as expected, UND looked pretty good against an overmatched team. Some great plays by Huff that were highlight reel material, and Anderson was, IMO, the best player on the court. Great vision, control of the offense, and knew when to take it himself. His defense was solid too. I was really impressed by his play today. The depth looked pretty good and I liked what I saw from the two freshmen and you could see them start to get more comfortable later in the game.

  10. I wasn't following the stats or really even looking at them. Just watching the game they seemed to come away with a lot of rebounds, especially offensive rebounds that lead to a fair number of second chance points. If we actually were only 2 rebounds different then I'm shocked. Seemed a much greater disparity when watching.

  11. Honestly I think a combination of too much downtime and the travel caused our girls to be flat. It's been 10 days since their last match and they had too much time to sit and relax. UVU is a good team and showed it. We'll just have to beat them in the tourney, as I think the tourney champ will come down to these two teams again.

  12. Ladies lost tonight 72-54. Saw some issues tonight, had a bit of trouble with a full court press at times, were weak on the defensive baseline (gave up a number of layups this way), and got dominated on the boards. Saw some better shooting tonight and again liked the combination of Evers and Wall on the court at the same time, especially with a zone defense. Will be nice to possibly see more of that.

  13. This has been tough to watch so far. Our offensive line is getting pushed around, we look uninspired so far, and already giving up big plays.

Plus why the hell is this on tv if we can't even fill half the stadium? Black it out!

  14. Evers looked good overall, just a bit wild and forced things at times. I expected to see a bit more out of Wall but this was only the first game. I like the pressure defense we put on but we gave up too many quality looks inside.

We are definitely hurting right now in that we don't have a go to scorer in the clutch. We also don't really have anyone that can create their own shot at this point. Williams looked good and I like what she brought, especially only being a freshman. I think she could develop into that go-to person for the Sioux this year, but it's going to be a bit of a struggle early in the season.

One thing I think hurt us in this game was our poor perimeter shooting. Most of our points came in the lane or via the free throw line. Not much was made from outside, either jumpshots or three pointers. Hopefully it was just a bad shooting night and not a sign of just poor shooting.

  15. It is to bad we can't qualify for the NCAA tournament this year. We would definitely make the tourney. Definitely the best team in the area.

Really wish we could have fast-tracked the volleyball team, would have been great to see these girls in action in the NCAA tourney. I really think they could make some waves there.
