Great to read about the win. GREAT to hear about Frattin's hat trick too. Boy, if anyone deserves it, it is him.

With this year, I'm done making predictions. I'm just taking this season one game at a time and trying not to do to the Sioux what I do to the Cubs (aka "Oh, we'll get 'em next year! Mark my words!). Cornell, once again, has a goaltender many compare to McKee and LeNeuveu. However, other than Riley Nash, I'm not altogether sure what their offense will turn out to be like. I think it does come down to what Miller said. Forget about the bounces and just work on the problem areas of our game. We can't practice getting good bounces. I'd practice passing drills, special teams, passing drills on special teams, passing drills, communication during passing drills, more passing drills, shoot and crash, defense around the net, pinching, passing drills... From my armchair, about 75% of practice should be spent on passing drills. ALL of the passing drills should come after the ice has been roughed up. Save the clean ice for conditioning and the other parts of practice. And I'd pull a Bill Bellichek and hire someone to sneak into Gopher practices and steal the passing drills they employ. I think if we could pass like the Gophers, we'd be a lot better off.

I heard about him and every place I looked said in some variation: Headed to the WHL. I thought the rumor about him going to UND or considering the college route to be just as you said. He'll be good, for sure, but we won't know about it until he reaches the NHL. If he does anyways.

Happy tday everyon for the next 28 minutes in the central time zone! EDIT: Goon- Surprised you didn't know who Tommiejo was. He is always on the Football boards (even though I'm rarely on it, I knew that). He has also posted in the Sioux nickname thread. To my knowledge, Tommiejo is the only one here who is allowed to post all in caps without anyone giving him grief.

I can't understand why Downie got recalled... or maybe they are going to play Toronto and Hollweg is going to be in the lineup? EDIT: I should add that I was always one of those who doubted how much of a cheap shot artist Downie was when he played for Team Canada and though that JMFJ vs. Downie was overrated. Now, seeing him play for Philly, I stand corrected. He's a hack and a disgrace to this sport.

Porter played tonight. He ws on the same line as Cam Jansen and David Backes. He wears #32. He tried to pull the Frazee wrap around special on Ellis but was stuffed. He played hard, though he wasn't as noticeable as I'd've wanted him to be (cause I don't want him sent down).

I'm wondering if cheap shots are becoming more common in "fights allowed" leagues or is the media finally covering it more? I find it hard to believe the latter because we've had horrible on-ice incidents before Bertuzzi's hit (McSorley's incident in Vancouver comes to mind). What could spark such things? Are players simply not disciplined like they used to be? Are they encouraged to play with such an edge because it could get them more noticed? Cheap shots happen in any league, even those that don't allow fighting so I can't really attribute the allowance of fighting to these occurrences, but what could be the cause?

Actually... I'd make the trade if I knew I were about to be fired. Kinda like Mike Tice drafting Troy "Me sucka for long time" Williamson. But yeah.... Parise would stagnate in the Wild system.
-
Agreed. Not to mention Miami being CCHA's SCSU. Well... I'd be more afraid of SCSU personally.
-
All I'm going to say to this is wow. Just wow...
-
Well played! Chief- You said it at the end of your response to my post. No, we cannot call anything a "pow wow" because if we did, the anti-namers would simply use it as yet another exploitation of the NA people and another thing they can attribute to the nickname.

Seriously.... UMN Basketball is a joke. Football has a ways to go to undo Mason's Morons. Stick to hockey. Oh, and it looks like I was right. UMN overlooked DU. Now DU was ready for them and... it's ugly.
-
Looks like I was right, Gopherz. Your optimism rubbed off on your boys and DU was ready for it.
-
I'm starting to see UMD climb.

Shep will only suspend a ref if he is put in a position such that not doing so would jeopardize his own job. Randy put him in that position. So did Adam after the Bina hit. However, he was able to pull the wool over McClown's eyes and actually hired him full time to keep his head in the sand. No. According to Daddy Shep, the officials have never been better. That's all McClown cares about. Accountability is nonexistent.

I'm sure I'm the only one who finds this amusing. All of Joe's time at UND, posters here have pined and ranted and carried on about how much Joe sucks and should be benched or Washington should sign him. Now we're begging for him to be back. I love irony.

Agreed.

And that's all that matters. You're right. Fire Hakstol. Instead, hire Jack Nicholsen and make him wear his Marine uniform from a Few Good Men to every game. Then you'll get what you want. I'm going to do what every great fan does: Be disappointed at the loss, sure, but have faith in the coach and its players. If the worst happens, and the Sioux have a bad year, they have a bad year. They've had bad years before and they're bound to happen again. They'll bounce back, and I'll find the positive in everything they do. I guess that's what makes me a homer. Oh well. Better to live in my own little world than to live in one where you're always embittered and pointing fingers.

A coach can get as angry as he wants, if the team doesn't score, the team doesn't win. But I love the judging a coach by his expression thing. Next thing you know it will be the reason why we didn't win the past frozen fours was because of the tie he wore to the game. :rolleye: Go cool off. Every team has rough patches or even rough seasons. We don't know how this season will play out yet. And Hakstol recruited a ton of players under Blais. Many of them great. Unless you can provide a list of which players Blais recruited and which ones Hak recruited while under Blais, that claim is bogus and unsubstantiated. We lost. Oh well. Next game.
-
We do or else 3 more will spawn and take its place. I'm thinking about asking Jim to tack this thread to the first page to prevent redundant Fire Hakstol threads.

Modifying Gopherz predictions: 1. Minnesota - Kangas will continue to dominate for the first half. Lately, second halves have been the bane of their existence. I don't think it will be the case this regular season. 2. CC - As long as they have Bachman I think they'll be just fine. They've taken a few tough losses but I fully expect them to get it together. They will make it close. 3. DU - Lost their last 3 games but they have some scoring punch. A few bounces go their way and they have a few more victories this year. 4. Mankato - Tough team. Tons of chemistry. Great goaltending. Not excessively talented but still dangerous. 5. UND - Eidsness and the D are playing alright. Offense isn't there. Offense gets going and the Sioux will be tough. If not, 5th place may be the best we can hope for. 6. SCSU - They have been on a tear as of late but I don't know how permanent that's going to be. In the back of my head is still the slaughtering they took from the Gophers. 6b. Wisconsin - Way to inconsistent for me to put them in the top 5 right now, but they definitely have the potential to be a team who has home-ice come playoffs. Connelly is STILL suspect imo. 8. AA - I don't expect their great start to the season to continue at all, they just aren't very talented. 9. UMD - Bad 10. MTU - Really Bad

If fans were proven indicators of their team's success, Minny and UND would have gone undefeated since 1959.

I've seen Patrick Roy lose his cool after a goal. He skated out and pushed a ref around. Of course, he thought there was some sort of nullifying action such as a penalty or an illegal use of equipment that caused the goal, but he simply lost his mind and skated halfway around his end tracking down the official.

There is only one penalty that is more legal than Goaltender Interference: Diving. Sorry folks, you are wasting your breath. Diving is legal in the WCHA. I can remember only ONE diving call that wasn't made as an offsetting penalty in recent memory and the call was made by either an ECAC or HEA official when UND played (and lost) to Ferris State. The call was against Ferris State. I remember TH being very surprised at the call.
