I'm glad Genoway is doing so well in Finland. He seemed to excel in the AHL and never really got a shot at the NHL level. I'm curious about salary though. I wonder if he gets paid more in Finland than in the AHL?

soohockey brings up a great point, but... I'm going to say Morneau would be missed more than Mauer offensively. Why? Well, take out Morneau, and you've got ZERO power hitters in your lineup. Singles and doubles are great, but homers are one shot runs and are certainly worth having players in your lineup known for power hitting because of it. Sure, it's better to have singles and doubles hitters around the power hitter to better the chance of putting more than one run on the board, but you take out the power hitter, your lineup isn't very scary. I hate Barry Bonds, but they walked him 20000000 times for a reason. Even Morneau will never hit 45 HRs in a season... But I wouldn't sign Bonds regardless, not that it matters.

mikejm is right, though... once you warm up the bus for Finley, might as well run over Blood and Fienhage as well. You know... gas prices these days.

I agree with the radio guys. Despite the score, this Manitoba team is better than the previous years. By the way, we're getting sloppy. Allowing short handed rushes is sloppy.

Because I'm bored, I've decided to break down the Bison roster in terms of NHL draftees. UND has something like 11 or more. Manitoba has: Myles Rumsey (7th Round) Mark Olafson (9th Round) Jared Walker (7th Round) And that's it. Portage of the MJHL seems to be the main feeder for Manitoba if the player didn't go major juniors. With all the talk about CIS teams getting into the NCAA, Manitoba would have to cut 90% of its current roster.

I don't care what you say, no amount of money can cover bad coaching and lack of talented offensive leadership. Remember, without Childress, the Vikings would have probably have gone after a QB NOT named Jackson. Remember, the Queens only made ONE major acquisition: Allen. And he's doing great. As for talented offensive leadership: My case in point? NE Patriots. No Brady and they lose to the Dolphins in embarrassing fashion. Get rid of Childress, get a real QB and the Queens will turn it around. Oxbow6 - Umm... Mauer turned out to be a better investment than Mark Prior. He hits over .300 every season. The problem is that he was drafted #2 overall and billed as something he's not: a power hitting catcher. He will be a power-hitting catcher the same year Nick Punto hits 25 HRs. The problem is that the Twins are incredibly one sided. They are a true small ball team. They single and occasionally double you to death. That's not bad provided you can string them together, but it is hard to stay consistent in that. The most balanced teams tend to do the best. I'll put it this way: The Twins defensively and even pitching (for the most part) have been pretty sound as of the last 5 years (pretty much). Now, take the Twins D, install the Dodgers or even Brewers middle of the order into the lineup, and suddenly the Twins are scary good. If you walk Morneau, what's going to happen? Cuddyer? Please. I was right about him. He had a career season 2007-2008. He didn't exactly fall off the map, but he lost his health and wasn't consistent because of it. Maybe Young will evolve into a power hitter. Gomez and Span will be just fine in the Twins current system. Pretty much right in the mold. No power, just singles and doubles and TONS of speed. The problem is that you still don't have a real scary middle of the lineup. You need someone to either bat cleanup (with Morneau at #3) or #3 with Morneau at cleanup. Cuddyer at #5 and Mauer at #2 sandwiching them would make it a great lineup.

You're operating off of an assumption. Remember, there has been no official vote by the PEOPLE of the reservations, only the tribal councils, the NA media members, and the UND internal agendists. All of them amassed may constitute perhaps 1% of the NA community that is claimed as directly affected. There won't be a vote because the tribal leaders are afraid that the majority of their constituents will either not care either way or vote against their declarations. We don't know what they think and we won't know. They aren't afraid of altering whatever they wish to make their point, thus calling into question the integrity of any such vote before it even starts. Also consider that any non-NA third party running any sort of election will have its results automatically non-recognized by the NA tribal councils as racist should the results not be what they believe in. So, right now we have the pro-nicknamers saying that the majority of NA Sioux either approve or are apathetic towards the nickname and the pro-changers are claiming the opposite. Neither side knows for sure.

That has been the motto since 1992. And yeah, Bill Smith only wanted the Twins to compete because you can't expect anything more with them playing in the metrodome. But really, seriously, yeah, they did do far better than I thought they would. However, I think Harris will be fine at 3B. They need depth. Punto had a better year this year, but no way is he going to do any better than he did this year again. Best get a SS and how Casilla works out at 2B so you can make Punto a spot starter/utility man off the bench. Apart from Guerrier, it's amazing to see you say bullpen. I thought it was one of the few strengths the Twins had. It's too bad you guys didn't hold on to Grant Balfour. Remember though: don't feel bad for this season. All you were doing was fighting to be the honor of being the first to be eliminated by the Rays.

I think any news like this only hurts UND. Right now, the air is rife with the hippie-esque ultra-liberalism PC mantra that has us saying such things as: "Who cares what the Republicans have to say. Who cares what the Democrats want. I'm voting for Obama because he's not Bush." That's merely one of them. By the way, I thought there was hate for Hillary...then Palin comes around and I'm floored by what hate really looks like. and no, I'm not a Republican. I'm not a democrat. I do plan on voting because that gives me, imo, the license to complain and criticize what our government is doing. I'm just at a loss as to where to find out real information about both candidates because I can't look to the media. They are either anti-Obama (FoxNews) or anti-McCain (everyone else). There are no objective sites. All this is going to do is to incite more of this stupid rhetoric about how we abuse the nickname. I say make whatever in-roads you can with the tribes, but do it in private, behind the scenes, and otherwise out of the public eye. Then, when the time has elapsed to gain approval or not, you can change the name and then expose the tribes for the hypocrites they are by releasing all of the actions the University has taken to try to come to some sort of agreement with the tribes. This move is just stupid. Expect protestors now. Best keep it quiet than stir the flames. mksioux is 100% correct. There is no collaboration with people who hate you. All you do every time you try to work with them is just further incite their hatred.

I agree with you Ray. Silva was exposed his final season with the Twins. He manages to get an incredible salary from the Mariners (good for Silva and his agent, but really... the Mariners GM should probably be fired after this season and this signing) and proceeds to be absolute garbage the entire season. I think at one point he went 0-9 in games where he actually earned a decision. How would he help the Twins? Well, he'd provide the Twins with an excuse for not winning perhaps, but that's about all I could foresee. Silva shouldn't even be in the majors. Ok, maybe that's harsh, but he certainly shouldn't be a starter. He'd be good as a spot reliever. He'd also be good as a promoter for the stadium concessions ()

I don't think there would be an appreciable drop in ticket sales. In fact, it may even benefit the atmosphere at the Ralph. Like DaveK and dmksioux state, the only people giving up season tickets would be the fair weather fans who don't have much ownership in UND outside of getting season tickets. That number would be really small as the monetary cost of the tickets would, I'd assume, indicate commitment to the Sioux even if they don't necessarily care what's going on in the game. mksioux is right on, the exec commitee has outstretched its boundaries. However, there are no schools that are willing to launch a fight against them because they don't want to be the subject of an investigation or some spiteful reprisal as Brand and his cronies are apt to begin. Isn't it interesting that we're so spiteful of the leader of Iran and all of these dictators in the world and yet we don't even care about the ones we find in our own country?

Not being mean necessarily, but isn't it interesting we're into our second Toews player and still the name is hard to spell?
