  1. Really? I went on cleaning my apartment and muted the TV. I turned it off after what I thought was the end of the game (not sure) and went to bed. Too bad I missed a good game. I never predicted they'd lose that game. I merely stated that the Canuck's first goal was horrifically weak. It's almost like Khabibulin took a brief vacation. He was making spectacular saves left and right all game long up to that point.
  2. Don't look now but I think Chicago made an illegal trade. Khabibulin's not in net. That's TURCO in a jersey. WOW what a weak goal. 1-1 tie right now.
  3. Yeah, but Ed Schultz is now Nationwide. Well, now it's even keeled. Rush Limbaugh spewing filth for the Republicans and Ed Schultz countering it with crap of his own coast to coast.
  4. I still say Washington takes the series. Yesterday's game was the most predictable (yeah, I actually watched one of the games). In OT, I don't remember Fleury even having to make a save. Varlamov was THE reason why the Caps didn't lose something like 7-1 or 6-2. (I can't remember the score and I'm too tired to look it up). Chicago staved off certain elimination by beating Vancouver on a lucky deflection in OT. Seriously.... I think Chicago had one scoring opportunity before they scored and Bolland's shot was merely a prayer that was answered by Ladd. Detroit is fighting for their playoff lives and it's just sad. Anaheim is just too much for Detroit. Right now it's 3-2, and that bodes well for Detroit.... but Detroit isn't doing much to hold leads. Carolina is still overrated. Ward is playing out of his mind and that's what's keeping them afloat.
  5. USHL Blog and I believe World of Junior Hockey and maybe WCHBlog have Galiev going to the OHL. There may even be an article where Galiev stated as much. He's got zero chance of going the NCAA route.
  6. I'd like to point out my prediction after Game 1: If Anaheim holds Detroit to 3 goals or less, they'll take the series. So far, Detroit has yet to score more than 3 goals. They've only done so once: Game 1, which they won. They've since dropped the next two games. As a Detroit fan, it pains me to say this but.... Game 4 is pivotal. If Anaheim wins, Detroit's done. And remember my other prediction: Osgood is going to sieve out like he did in Game 4 of the Columbus series. Question is when? Will it be a large stinking log in Game 4 or will it be when elimination is at stake or when? In other news: Boston isn't getting what they want and having a lot of trouble with the most overrated team left in the playoffs (Carolina). Seriously, if Anaheim and Carolina make it all the way to the Finals... Bettman might as well jump because NO ONE WILL WATCH. And yeah, I know Bayda is on Carolina, but really... talk about a team that is just flat out lucky game in and game out. Anaheim is pretty darn lucky too. However.... whatever. Vancouver still takes the series from the Hawks. Both teams have explosive offenses, but I think Vancouver has an edge defensively and in net. THat's what saves the series for the Canucks. I still stand by my prediction despite the OT loss: Washington won Game 2. I say Washington takes the series.
  7. Sorry, but I think of the three out there (long shots or otherwise): UNO, UAH, and NMU, I'd rather have UNO. NMU does have an NC in their history and has also been in the WCHA, sure, but they've been a virtual laughing stock in the CCHA yet BGSU, and to a certain extent WMU are the shakey ones.
  8. Tough to send a good prospect to juniors for a year when he could suit up, but I would send the last slot Forney's way. He's shown that he's no fluke in the USHL. I agree with AZ that he shouldn't have gone straight from high school to UND, but that's water under the bridge. Also, food for thought: Why rush Mattson? sure, he doesn't have the injury bug Forney had in high school, but it is VERY RARE (IMO) for a player to go right from high school to DI without much transition. Sure, Oshie did it. So did the most of the SSM boys (Miller, JPar, and Duncan are three off the top of my head who went to juniors first before coming to UND after SSM). However, I still think Mattson will go from a good recruit to a great recruit with a year in the USHL. Kindof like Danny Kristo. He was good in high school, but after the USHL, he's a great recruit. Sometimes good to great is all it takes. My 2 cents.
  9. Uh, Jim.... Fleury looked a lot softer than Lundqvist because he is. I don't think this series is going to be a duel of goaltenders really.

    Blais

How come it took this long for the Hak haters to turn this thread into a "Gee, golly, why can't we fire Hakstol and bring back Blais?" thread? Seriously... haters are slacking.
  11. Backes? He's doing just fine. In fact, I thought he was good in Mankato but I never thought he'd turn into the kind of a pro Backes developed into. As for Bruess, well... I think he'll show up somewhere. Most likely overseas.
  12. I was listening to ESPN Radio and they interviewed Gary "Fire me now" Bettman and he basically implied that the NHL was, at the very least, working very closely with Phoenix. In my opinion, Phoenix was a market that never panned out. It's very unfortunate. And, what's worse, the NHL isn't economically stable enough to really do much with it. Gary also said that ratings were up on the NHL. How is this possible when Vs. isn't even included in basic cable? OR is it? I can see why it would be among the higher rated programs on Versus, though. Other than MMA, what's on Versus anyways? Fishing shows? Please. Fishing is fun to do, but it ranks up there with bowling and billiards as "Not for TV games and sports." DaveK- I have no problem with Lemieux and Gretzky now. They proved themselves nicely. But, to truthfully answer your question, I had no opinion on them. I wasn't really exposed to much hockey until I was in high school. And even then, I really didn't watch many hockey events on TV. So, no, I didn't really have much of an opinion on the rivalry while those two faced each other. My opinion is that AO and Crosby are great players, but their teams are the ones that win games. They factor into the game, sure, but they aren't THE team. Be a fan of the team, great. Like AO, sure. But I'm more interested in team play, rather than individual showdowns. ------------------------------ In other news, I was quite surprised at Game 1 for in the Hawks-Canucks series. However, I will note, that none of Vancouver's goals were weak. That's great news for fans of Khabibulin. I love how resilient the Hawks are. However, in the end, the Canucks won because they forced the Hawks to make mistakes. I think this is a trend that is going to continue. I'm now further convinced that this will be an exciting series, but I still think that the Canucks progress. In Game 1 of the Boston-Carolina series, nothing new to report. NJ dropped a load on the ice and, thus far, that opinion is standing up nicely. In Game 1 of the Anaheim-Detroit series, I'll say this: If Anaheim continues to hold Detroit's offense to 3 goals or less, the better the chances are that Osgood will drop a stink log on the ice and Anaheim moves on. If Detroit scores more than 3 goals and doesn't have to spend much time more than 1 goal down, I think Detroit will advance. And I also guarantee that Game 4 vs. Columbus will not be an anomaly. Detroit will drop at least one of the games to Anaheim in stupendous blowout fashion. Yes, I am saying that one of the games Anaheim blows Detroit out of the arena. Being a Wings fan, I still say Detroit in 6. Washington vs. Pittsburgh. I say the winner of Game 2 takes the series.
  13. Can't. I tried Scheels in Fargo and they don't have anything I want. They're too big. The SIouxshop doesn't have them either. If Dakota Textbook has them, I'd love one. I'll post an example (of a different team of course) that would be much like I'd love to have. I'd be willing to mail you a check for the cost and include shipping if someone could locate a metal Sioux keyring in Grand Forks. PLEASE PM me first. I don't want to end up having to owe 15 people for keyrings!
  14. Hi! VERY odd request here. I just went on Siouxshop.com and looked for a keyring and didn't find one that I like. I don't want a rubber or acrylic keyring because they tend to be rather weak and break apart. What I'd like is a metal keyring with the Sioux logo on it. However, I can't find one. Does one even exist? If so, does anyone have a line on one they'd sell or is for sale? I am also not interested in the "divot tool" Thanks for the help!
  15. Jim- Maybe, and I can understand the dislike for the Wings. We've been dominant for a while now and we do spend a lot of money (despite the fact that some of our best players came from the draft). However, the Caps and the Pens are deplorable to me because of Crosby and Ovechkin. Yeah, they're good hockey players, but seriously.... who cares about the team? As long as AO and Sid "The NHL God Child" Crosby are facing off, who cares? I think the Pens/Caps series would be AWESOME if Crosby and AO were scratched for the series. Of course, the media would still cover the two not playing, but I think the commentators would do a better job of covering the teams rather than analysing every time AO or Crosby even blinks at one another. It looks like stickboy misread my post. I said, on paper, Detroit should blow Anaheim out of the water. Reality is, though, so should have San Jose. San Jose not only didn't blow them out, they didn't show up for most of the games against Anaheim. Nabakov got burned a few times, but never gave up any really truly weak goals. Osgood was giving up weak goals all over the place in Game 4 vs. Columbus. I don't see the Wings winning in less than 7 games. I just don't. I think there's also a pretty good chance that the Ducks end the Wings' season. Osgood has "shot his wad" so to speak in Games 1-3 vs. Columbus. Stick a fork in him. He's done. As for the Hawks, yeah I did have them out. They looked AWFUL in Calgary. Khabibulin looked Osgood-like in weak goals. Yeah, they pulled it off. I think Vancouver's offense is better than Calgary's (and that's saying a lot considering how good Iginla is). So, yeah, I'm a negative Nick and saying it is going to be Vancouver awaiting the victors of the Detroit/Anaheim series.
  16. Uh.... Obviously that's a joke. Brian Lee's place under the bus is immortalized.... I mean, there's an imprint of his face on the muffler.
  17. I wasn't! I swear! I was even wearing my thick wallet! I mean... $$$ talks, right? Not when I have the $$ apparently!
  18. Yeah. NJ chose an ill opportuned time to suck. Carolina faces Boston now. I have strong odds that, at best for Carolina, Boston takes it in 6. Detroit plays Anaheim. Now, truthfully, Detroit should blow them out of the water. Reality-wise, part of me is saying 7 games. I think the NHL analysts are far too complimentary of the Hawks D. I think Vancouver ends the Hawks' season... I'll say in 6. On a tangent, Luongo needs to get a new mask. His plain dirty white mask is UGLY. Datsyuk takes the Selke Trophy again. Washington's run ends in this next round.... I think they play Pittsburgh. Gosh... Two teams that are overhyped. I wish both teams could lose. NHL on the Fly is going to be hard to watch. They'll spend 15 minutes of a 45 minute show analyzing every move Ovechkin makes and counteranalysing with Crosby's actions. Top Losers of this year's playoffs thus far (in no particular order): 1. San Jose 2. Sean Avery 3. Donald Brashear 4. Mike Cammelleri 5. Cristobal Huet (ok, he never saw the ice, but I think that's the point. He was brought in to replace Khabibulin and he became a sieve-like $$$ benchwarmer) 6. New Jersey - Silver lining is that at least they made it a series... San Jose only made it close twice. I'll add more, but right now, the only teams that get a pass on this list are Columbus and St. Louis. I think both teams did their very best to get where they ended up and could not be expected to have done more in the playoffs despite being swept.
  19. Crap. I thought one of them was in juniors at least... oh well
  20. You call yourself "omaha?" TRAITOR!!! Chief- We do that as a courtesy. Sometimes, we have to carry all of our money that we're worth in our pockets and let those who are overweight have the carts. We're big on charity. Sioux-cia: I went to Lowes today and they have "greeters." Well... that woman didn't even smile at me! I think I'm going to file a hate crime charge on her! She greeted the old man in front of me though.... *sigh*
  21. Am I the only one who only sees doom and gloom for Bemidji?
  22. I think Hextall should be with Gregoire and Kristo.
  23. Look how long it took for Tim Thomas to break into the NHL. If memory serves, Tim got his NHL break as a backup goaltender call up due to injury. Goon can correct me. Tim wasn't initially meant to be "the answer" in Boston... now, however...
  24. My mistake.
  25. Can we provide healthy skepticism and find games where MacWilliams made some boneheaded move or got burned by a player (world class or otherwise) so we can beat on him too?
