We'll use the silhouette then. Fighting Spleen then?

Guess that bike was hostile and abusive to its owner.

How about the StreetHawks? Our Logo can be: It could get interesting driving it out onto the ice.

Let's go Dartmouth. Go UND Fighting Green! Here's our mascot:

May not be too outlandish as the other 3 members of the Trashmen hail from the Twin Cities. Bob Reed was the name of the bass player. I can't seem to find any information on where in ND is he from.

I think many of you are now singing the same tune I have been for a while (though I'm not sure you've exactly changed over... I'm pretty sure 82 and Big A have been singing the tune for as long as I have) regarding Finley and defense. I'm often criticized because I won't criticize players for bad games or bad plays. I admit that part of it is because I'm flagrantly a homer. But the other part is exactly this: Sports that feature one one one action (Boxing, tennis, golfing, bowling, billiards, etc.) are sports where you can point your finger at one person and cite reasons for a loss or a win. Team sports are not that way at all. When UND gives up 6 goals for whatever reasons, I blame the team for not playing 60 minutes of hockey. I don't care if Finley coughed it up or misplayed the puck or Genoway did this or Duncan did that or LaPoint stuck a stick up his whatever. It's irrelevant. Why? Because all that matters in the big picture are wins and losses. If the Sioux lost 10 games during the regular season, does it matter how they lost? Does it make that big of a difference if they lose 2-1 in OT or 20-0 in regulation? A loss is a loss. I want to see the entire team playing well, but mistakes happen. When they do, the team has to be ready and back it up. If they don't, often the team pays the price. It's no different if it is the Sioux, Gophers, Red Wings, Penguins, whatever. Even the greatest teams in sports history got shelacked a few times. Whatever though. Finley is the last D standing on the plays as it's been said. So he gets the blame. I'm sure LaPoint, Blood, Fienhage, or MacWilliam will take over the reigns from Finley.

Do you hear the bell tolling? The Hurricane season is almost over. Pittsburgh will continue wonderhing how a semifinal series could have been less competitive than their quarterfinal series. And the Rangers will be pissed because they could have made the semis if they hadn't faced Pittsburgh first.... or, for that matter, if they had been able to just finish off the Pens after going up 2-0, they'd've had an easy trek to the Finals. One prediction of mine is coming through: The Hawks/Wings series is entertaining and competitive. Hawks have been in pretty much every game. Canes have only been in on game really, but it was too little too late. I wonder how this will affect the finals? Does Pittsburgh go into the Finals with all the momentum or is it just like a team like the Phillies playing the Nationals before going on to take on a team like the Mets or Red Sox? (Forget league affiliation)

I've got one last one: Blah blah, blah blah blah blahblah. Yackity Schmackity yabbadabba rummalumma blah blah ding dong flibber flabber! And you can all shove that up your flim flammer!

UND are goons. Their fans are fans of the Skating Halos. FIRE LUCIA! () Kick UAA and MTU out of the WCHA! Bring BSU into the WCHA! MSU,M are hacks.

You're citing offensive output as a comparison point between Miller, a former forward turned defenseman and two defensemen who were ALWAYS defensive defensemen? That's just... well.... whatever. You're wrong, but whatever. Finley was the second most consistent defensive defenseman on the team. Second to Jones. (I know I'll get ripped for this. People are going to jump all over me saying that Miller and Genoway were more consistent. Maybe last season you'd be correct. But not this past one. Genoway made many more mistakes than he did his freshman year or at least they were more noticeable). If you want to compare similarities among defensemen, then you should compare Miller to Marto or Genoway. Those three play similar games. LaPoint has the potential to play that kind of game even though he's slower than those three. The best defensive defensemen are known for NOT getting much press. Listen to the broadcasts, defensemen get noteworthy mentions in two ways: First, when they score or are the primary assist to the score via the nice pass or whatnot. Second, when they screw up. If they do neither, they don't get much more of a mention other than the routine play by play when they touch the puck. Jones' temper is noteworthy in the fact that it wasn't there his last two years of college. He hardly ever was penalized his junior and senior years. At one point he went a number of games without so much as a single minor penalty. It's obvious that you are a fan of Miller over Finley and Jones. It's not hard to like Miller. He did everything for the team, even moving to D (which I'm not sure how much experience he had playing prior to UND). He is dynamic. He is also very well known thanks to his Miller Time, which helps his popularity for sure. It's easy to dislike Finley. He's 6'7 and he doesn't hit like Greene/Commodore/Smaby. He's been generally disliked since he came in as the second underaged freshman in recent memory (He was 17 or a VERY young 18 when he began the season his freshman year. The last one to do that, IIRC, was Jonathan Toews). He doesn't score. This season, Finley bailed out Genoway on a number of Genoway's mistakes, but.... Genoway is an All American and is well liked so you'll never hear a contrary thought on that. In any case, Miller will indeed be missed. So will Jones and Finley. The only difference is that people will willingly mention missing Miller and mean it. The same might be true for Jones, but at a lesser extent. I'm surprised I haven't heard more of "Thank Parise Finley's gone."

I still think Detroit in 5 or 6 (wishy washy). However, an overall storyline that I just love to reiterate for the 1000000000th time: I'm LOVING how Khabibulin is playing. And I'm loving how Chicago thought Huet would be the answer. I wish I understood the salary cap because I'd be 100% for dumping Huet outright and re-signing Khabibulin at this point if I were a Hawks fan. Well, I think Huet should be dumped outright. He's being paid way too much for an average to slightly better than average backup goaltender. It's like paying MA Fleury type money to Ty Conklin.

If I recall correctly, Eidsness came in early before last season too. It worked out pretty well for him. That being said, Eidsness did pretty well for being the #1 almost out of the gate. I think Dell is going to make Eidsness better late in the season because he'll be able to give Eidsness a night off without fear. I think Walski could have done the same, but we squandered too many winnable games early in the season... I think pressure was on. When the pressure is on, you just go for the best guy. No offense to Walski, but Eidsness was the better option.

I think LGS just usurped you, Sica. And it appears as though Siouxforeverbaby suckered DaveK successfully. If that's the point, then kudos.

Funny. I see skill. They aren't physical, that I can understand. However, Detroit isn't a team that normally uses the trap/left wing lock like our friends the Wild and to a certain extent, New Jersey (well... they did exclusively for a long time... this season though I'm not sure if it was a true trap system). To me, watching Anaheim play is hard. Watching Carolina play is hard. I think the Hawks/Wings series is entertaining because there's a lot of skill on the ice. Car/Pit is one sided. The more I think of that series, the more I feel Pit sweeps. As a fan of "any hockey is better than the basketball (any level) anything," I can only hope for long NHL series. But, yeah, Detroit plays a very European style game. They really don't feature physical play. Holmstrom is a good instigator, but he's no Kocer, McCarty, Konstantinov, Maltby (in his prime), etc. Brad Stuart adds some physical game, but really... Detroit is a pure finesse team. In fact, I can understand it perfectly why many of you dislike the Wings. Their game is a lot like Minnesota Gopher hockey. Which confuses me because I dislike the Gophers. Oh well, I'm odd that way. I also like Detroit because they seem to be able to find diamonds in the rough (better picks in the later rounds) than other teams. In fact, I think Detroit's fared better in Rounds 4-7 recently than Minnesota has in Rounds 1-3. Koivu is great. Backstrom was an UFA (how the hell he went undrafted is beyond me). I guess I like the organization. I wouldn't expect any different from any fan from any fanbase.

First off, Bayda was fined for his cross check. I think Bayda misused his frustration. Face it Ryan, despite the first period, Carolina simply has nothing. Secondly, DaveK: Hey, look where Fleury was drafted. #1 overall's aren't exactly "not rated." Right now, I don't know where rates compared with the other #1 overall goaltender (DiPietro) because I'm not sure how good Fleury would be if he had a team as crap as the Islanders in front of him either. What I'd love to see is DiPietro with a team like the Hawks or Wings vs. Fleury with the Pens. Give DiPietro a team in front of him similar to Pittsburgh. That way we can see which one is living up to hype. Right now, I don't see Fleury as a #1 overall worthy goaltender. Actually, I don't even see him as a top 10 pick. So, yeah, he's overrated. Spectacular at one point and lost the next. He's not a BAD goaltender, just overrated. Interestingly enough, he's now what... 8-5 in the playoffs with a save% around .900 (it was .903 before Carolina scored 4 on him). With a team in front of him like that of Crosby and Malkin plus his exceptional skill....wouldn't he have a better playoff record? I mean, they're every bit if not a bit more talented up front as Detroit, right? FLeury is overrated. Detroit will expose him. Unfortunately, I don't see Osgood faring any better. We're going to see a TON of 9+ goal scoring games this year in the finals.

I don't think Blais will do it. I think Hastings is the man. He'll deny it until the pot sweetens enough. The real question is if the WCHA will steal UNO away from the CCHA.
-
Hmmmmm.... Not DaveK, but still.... Finley sucks. Walski didn't get a fair shake. Lee still sucks. LaPoint is good, but he sucks. Nevertheless, I hope he gets well soon. Crosby is God. Fire Hakstol Bring back Blais Forney should pack his back and go elsewhere.

For those who watched the PIT/CAR tilt: Ever wonder what Ward is to the Hurricanes? Watch the last 40 minutes of this game. That's why the Hurricanes won't advance. They're NOTHING without Cam Ward. Watch the first 20 minutes if you want to see what I thought Fleury would bring to the ice this year in the playoffs. It goes to show two things (well, imo anyways): Fleury is overrated and Ward is playing above his head. Both would have to be exposed eventually. Carolina couldn't maintain the pressure and Fleury finally garned some focus and only allowed one more goal in the game. Ward's defense abandoned him on Crosby's goal and He probably wants Malkin's second and third back. In any case, it was an exciting game if you don't care much for defense or goaltending. I'd be SHOCKED if Carolina wins more than 1 game. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pittsburgh sweep. Tomorrow is Chicago/Detroit Game 3. Game 2 was a good game that could have gone either way. Like I said, Game 1's ill-use of Kane and Toews will cost Chicago. I say Detroit in 5. WOW did I flip flop on predictions.

Hmmm, a point but put it this way: Coming into this season, who here thought the Spartans would suck as badly as they did? Anyone? Anyone at all? What has Niagara and Colgate EVER done? Have they even won NCAA games? Colgate might have.... No question I was disappointed by the Sioux in the GLI, but on paper, MTU is a team we should have beat. The Spartans are capable of beating anyone... they beat us the last time we faced them before the GLI. MTU was hard to swallow but I lived with the MSU loss. Colgate will be ok, but all you'd get if they beat you is fresh breath and clean teeth (ha ha! A toothpaste joke!) We'll shelack Niagara.... unless their goaltender gets "hot" and they play the Cornell "Trap and lock them until their fans commit suicide from boredom" method.
-
That being said, as a Wings fan, I reiterate: Im ok with Kane and Toews getting less ice time.

This is the "victim mentality" It's a lot like the race card. (insert ethnicity) can never be truly equal to the White people until the White people are inferior to [insert ethnicity here] for an equal or longer time period to the horrors that the White people put [insert ethnicity] through (even though not all White people in American have mistreated said ethnicity ever or themselves have been mistreated by either other Whites or an ethnicity). fourwindsboy is a racist, but he cannot be a racist because he's only venting the hurt he's experienced and lashing out at all those who harmed him. Now, if I said that fourwindsboy was an [insert negative characteristic/expletive/etc. here] even if I had irrefutable proof, I'd just be another bigotted racist. Good grief. No matter how much I dislike the Neo-Nazis or blond haired, blue eyed Bavarian, Prussian, or Germanic people, my father's family will still be dead and buried by the Nazis. No point holding a grudge. We remember, sure, but we move on too. Try it once, fourwinds. Let this issue go and see what happens. I let my great grandparents' (and other family members) oppression and cold blooded murder go and it set me free.

Wow. Thanks for the generalization. After you're done crying and getting all defensive, maybe you'll scroll back in this forum thread's history and realize that our defense of the nickname is more than just "because us Hockey fans love it so much." Maybe there's something to the fact that the Summit League is acting just as bush league as Brand and his idiot cronies? I chafe at the thought that some blowhard big wig uses their league as a lever to force its will on or, in this case, suck up to the NCAA front office to gain prestige or brownie points or whatever, on a school because they need to find a conference for its other sports to play in. Honesty in business is at a low. Folks, there's no guarantee that, even if we change the nickname to the UND Friendly Friends with as the logo, we'll even get into the Summit League! So why get bent all out of shape over a conference that is trying to jack with us using a carrot that may not ever be in reach?

I don't care where Q puts Toews and Kane, but if I were a Hawks fan, I'd be promoting Q to put Toews and Kane ON THE ICE MORE.

Actually, in today's economy, I think we should cut the AD by 80%. Leave Football, Men's and Women's Hockey, Men's and Women's Basketball, and one other women's sport. Then cut the rest. Blame the economy and minimize the impact of all this. (Ok, this is tongue in cheek people so don't flame me!)
-
Yeah, it was pretty prejudiced, but I'm tired of the word "racist." Everyone here knows that racist is, itself a racist term. I've not yet met a NA racist or an African American racist or any other ethnicity being racist other than whites. If only one ethnicity can be something negative, isn't that racism?
