  1. I swore I saw Bina on the ice. Radke didn't play much, and that's sad, because if there was ever a time where a freshmancould get his game skates under him, it would have been an exhibition game. Learning on the ice against Maine... or Minnesota even is not the way to do it. And jloos, 2 of their three goals came on the penalty kill. At one time, most of their shots were while shorthanded. That's unacceptable. In my "idealistic" mind, shorthanded goals against you would be almost as rare as penalty shots. When you ask your goaltender "What is the most boring part of the game?" He should replay "Our powerplay." So, again, this year's problem is the same as last year's: special teams EDIT: Ok, instead of double posting, I'm just going to add to this one. Some nonhockey things I noticed at the Ralph: 1. What the hell was with the banner unveiling? Only an idiot would have unveiled a banner at an exhibition game. You put it off two weeks and you unveil it against MINNESOTA. COMON! Dumb, really Dumb. 2. The player intro pictures on the jumbotron HAVE to go. I'm sorry, we aren't Survivor. Very low brow, very dumb. Also, the scrolling thing screws up the announcing. So no meshing between Hennan and the visuals. Not good. 3. Andy Schneider needs to shave. 4. An ok turnout by the people who got our seats, however, the further away from the ice on the lower bowl, the less people cheered. Viva la idiots. Yes, I know it was Manitoba, but still. 5. THEY SHOULD HAVE PUT THE @#$%ING FOOTBALL GAME ON THE JUMBOTRON BETWEEN PERIODS!!!!!!
  2. They lost I think 2 or three skaters. One of which was that transfer student from Minot State - Bottineau (or something like that)
  3. I'm really impressed with Zajac and here's why: Everyone was worried about ZPar's leaving and how it would affect team chemistry on the ice both offensively and defensively. Zajac seems to have that same ability ZPar had with 2 way play, even if he isn't as fast or as flashy. Early in the game he SINGLE HANDEDLY killed off nearly a minute of the powerplay through forechecking and positioning... it may have been the last 40 seconds of a penalty. Unreal. His goals were great shots as well. If this guy produces against tougher opponents, then we'll be fine. I liked Stafford's play as well. Really gritty, yet I am a little concerned with the fact that he seemed to go down in the corners much easier than last season. However, his goal that was top shelf and backhanded was the play of the game. Lammy was as advertised and looked sharp. I'm still going to be nervous when we go to Maine, but I think we'll be fine. We just won't be as flashy this season.
  4. I haven't found what I was looking for yet: The WCHA patch that is currently over the lettering on the front of the jerseys. My Nike replica didn't come with one and I'd love to put one on.
  5. jloos- Good to see you got help. Maybe you, as a recovering psychotic, can help this fellow/gal out? And anyways, how does favorite color come out in a conversation? "Hey Rory, nice to see you in class. I'm hoping you have a big year this year. YOu're my favorite. What's your favorite color?" Good grief. GET HELP
  6. Were we even interested? I know us fans were, but was Hak and Co.? I'm thinking that Kessel wouldn't come here even if we did recruit him hard. I've predicted this on USCHO: Kessel will be a Wolverine.
  7. What, jloos, you don't have a psychotic stalking instinct... I mean... favorite player?
  8. Why hold signs if you're just going to be in the upper deck anyways? Can people even see a sign up there well enough to read it?
  9. Yeah, it nearly broke us too. Shep found a way to penalize everyone on the Sioux and everyone on the Bulldogs because of that fight. kidding, but I'm sure he'd put everyone in the penalty box if he could. Kinda like the poll I've been holding off of: Which team does Shep dislike the most: UMD, UND, UMN, etc.
  10. My condolences to the family.
  11. ...but not officially
  12. Call Tailgaters on Main. MAYBE they'll have an answer for you? If not, try calling different sports bars, Buff Wild Wings, et. al.
  13. Yup, I agree. students come and go and the complaints will eventually die away as the freshmen who come in become upper classmen as they have had it this bad since they came here and know it to be "how it is." Therefore, why listen to them? Kupchella doesn't care about students until they become alumni anyways, so no support there. Diggler is right. There will be no solution simply because the students are ignored and largely forgotten when decisions are made. No, I don't think we SHOULD get more lower bowl seats. I DO think we DESERVE more consideration when decisions are made. It would be nice to have more lower bowl seats, but the explanations I've given seem logical.
  14. I'd say that, in hockey, our biggest hockey rivals (conference wise) would be Minnesota and Wisconsin. St. Cloud (otherwise known as JBSU or Jan Brady State) is a pesky nuisance, but generally not the most stressful opponent.
  15. They still don't get it. Yeah it would be nice, but it's just not going to happen without an increase in student season ticket costs. Being Division I and supporting the not-so-popular (unfortunately) Title IX requirements (most of which are required because of our DI status), makes it impossible to pass the buck to the regular fans. Fols, we aren't the big time here in Grand Forks, it still doesn't cost as much to take the family to the Ralph for a hockey game, but it is getting pretty darn close to NHL pricing. Some families are already priced out of the Ralph. I know this is a reality that cannot be avoided, but what the editorial states is just not feasible. So the question stands, really, is: How much would you pay for student season tickets to get the two extra sections? Let me tell you this: If they agreed to do this for next season, I guarantee you the season ticket prices wouldn't be under $100.
  16. I learned an interesting tidbit today from a member of the public who has season tickets in the lower bowl... He is very sympathetic with the students but he posed an interesting tidbit about why we won't get more seats in the lower bowl: money. No, I know that we already know that the Ralph is all about money, but this is different. Hockey is the most expensive sport on campus to fund, not just because of all the equipment and scholarships, but because of funding of all the other sports required by Title IX, the AD can't afford to give away the monetary losses that would occur if they gave us 106 and 108, even if we gave up some upper bowl seats. The only comprimise that would remotely be feasible would be an astronomic rise in student season ticket prices. Let's just say that what Minny pays for student season tickets ($240), of which he described as "in the ball park." Since we'd balk (even though he argues we'd complain but it would happen if we could get the seats) at that, it's just not going to happen. Not saying this is truth. I'm just saying that that newpaper article about us getting more seats was just not going to happen. Maybe there is something Student Government can do to spend at least a portion of the money that would be necessary to get us the seats and lower the prices a little bit (similar to what happened with the Old Ralph)
  17. Actually... I thought last year we played Concordia of Quebec? But I do understand the frequency we have played them in the past.
  18. I like our preseason ranking. We don't have the hype we had last year and we don't have the targets on our back either.
  19. Well, it's nearly Tuesday and Saturday is coming up! I found some interesting facts about the University of Manitoba. First, they are the Bison! Here is the Bison's Roster Some things of note: 1. There are 10 players with Major Junior Experience 2. There are 4 players with ECHL experience 3. There are 7 players who have been, at one time, drafted by the NHL. Most are 7th rounders or later, but a defenseman (Cameron) was a 3rd round pick of the Penguins in 1998 (+/- 1 year) and their starting goaltender (Cruz) was a former 2nd round draft pick of the Capitals. 4. There is a player, Gidney, who played for 2 seasons for Northern Michigan and a backup goalie who played for Iona. There are others on their main site that are not listed on their roster. There is also one other who went to Maple Leaf Rookie camp whose status is unknown on the website as well. Other things of note: They are playing a game on Oct. 24th in Thief River against Bemidji State. Yes, before you rib me, I'm doing this because: A. I'm excited for any hockey game, Sioux especially B. I'm just that bored.
  20. I have one of those pucks you mentioned. They were sold at the Sioux shop back when it was located in the Union. I think I paid $8 for it. I don't know if UND ever used it or if it was just a gimick collectable. I bought it in 1995 or 1996. I had 3 game pucks from last season. I gave two away. One I got from the dude who carries the bucket of pucks in and out, another from Campion, and one from Freeman.
  21. Wow. I've never heard of him. Another off the radar recruit (kinda like Kaip and Miller?)
