I'd also add that the perception of racism of the white man towards NA people is what keeps the reservation's up and running and the NA people down and drowning. In this day and age, where Equal Opportunity for everyone (including criminals) and the compromise of ideals for the sake of diversity (including affirmative Action and even quotas) that is sweeping the nation, the excuse to be downtrodden is just a plea for sympathy. A call for help, for if they enable themselves, put down the bottle, seek help for their medical needs, and do whatever it takes to get themselves a good job and a good lifestyle even if it means integrating, they'll leave the reservations behind to crumble in the dusts of history. The prospect of doing it all for themselves, on the other hand, is frightening. And it would certainly mean an end to all the Federal money coming in. They'd be on their own like every black, white, asian, or whatever race in the United States. That prospect scares them to death. Native Americans right now just want their checks and they still want the respect the whites and blacks and asians get too. How many kids go up to beggars on the street corner and say "I want to be just like you when I grow up?" How many kids of a man who does nothing but accept his Federal assistance check say "This is the life! When I grow up, I'm going to do what my dad does!" Maybe some NA do, but I can't name one who has to say that. All they have to do is to do the work. Show up at school, get that "dumb" piece of paper while walking across that stage wearing a "goofy" gown. Fill out some applications, go to college, do more work, think about what you want to be, and go for it. It's a LOT of work, but it isn't impossible, unless you truly are that beggar. I've NEVER met a beggar I could respect, and I have never met one with Honor. I've met Native Americans with Honor and Respect... of course all of those I've met don't live on the reservation. They got real jobs off of it. So, I give you this question: What is the worst thing ever done that's listed: The White man putting the NA people in reservations, or the NA people losing the ability to fend for themselves? If you ask me, the second option is a lot more depressing than the first.

Amazing Minny is in the top 25

Wow. That's gonna hurt UW.

I erased my post when I read yours. That was exactly what I was going to say. Oshie and Toews play a different style of hockey. Oshie is more high energy, gritty, just score mentality (whether by goals or by setting it up) similar to Bochenski. Toews is more of a finesse player. A guy with Stafford's skates and Zajac's stick. He has great size for his ability. His potential is simply staggering. Plus he's smart. Intelligence is something rare in sports. Toews will bring a new aspect to this team.
-
I hope so. I didn't like sitting around at Peppers in Fargo with a guy who claimed to be a UND fan who said "I don't know why they recruit these guys like Toews, Oshie, Stafford, Zajac and all. They don't stay four years! I'd rather have guys that stay four years than them!" UND wants to be another MSUM, SCSU, or MTU!
-
As nice as this is, I hope Irman gets back soon. To be honest, I'd like to have everyone at 100 percent on both sides so that injuries isn't an excuse.
-
No. He pretty much nailed the UW-UMN score though
-
I don't know. I do know that a few years back (ZPar's freshman year) the Store Manager of the Scheels on 13th said that their UND attire was outselling NDSU's. I'm not saying that UND is more popular in Fargo than NDSU, but it really surprised me to hear that.
-
Plus you'd get beaten up by GK and his group of merry thugs when you visit the reservations. They have eyes inside their casinos you know. I'm agreeing with mujack. As hot as this topic is to talk about, I don't think it is wise to talk about it in class.

Didn't Toews hit the post twice against MSU?
-
Not to sound negative, but I'm happy with the Sioux at around 8 or 9. We haven't played any WCHA opponents yet and we start out rocking with Denver in a few weeks. If we're still at one loss when Denver comes to town, I'll start to think of us as better than 8th.
-
UND 177 USD -25 UND 455 MSUM -144 UND 1875 UNO 3 (Our Defensive coordinator comes under heavy fire for allowing this many points in a game) Seriously: I don't know how any of the games will turn out. I'm just very happy with our run thus far and, even if we lose to USD, I'll still be proud of our team!
-
Point #1: I don't know. Point #2: Well, there are many theories as to this. One could be giving sports reporters something to do. I mean, it's not like the Twins or Vikings are doing something special. And NDSU can't make the playoffs this year, so... who knows. For whatever reason, their 2 reporters out there don't get a lot of space in the paper. Point #3: Fair enough. Point #4: True Point #5: Because it is national news, perhaps? If, for nothing else, it keeps the ratings up by making fun of UND, something they don't often get to do now that our teams don't face off in sports anymore. NDSU doesn't like UND. The Forum is the hometown paper of NDSU and supports their athletics as much as possible. Their "dislike" would therefore end up as the Forum's "dislike" simply because it best represents the majority of their readership. And with the soreness of NDSU over UND's recent office opening and closure in Fargo, I doubt they would do much to try to endear themselves to UND anyways.

Let her convince everyone not to play us! Everyone would have to forfeit to do so and that means wins for us without any injury to our players! We'd finish the year with only 1 defeat and JPar will have set the NCAA record for shutouts and consecutive shutouts!

As liberal as what I'm about to say is going to sound: if I were the security people, I wouldn't have let that person in with that headdress. That's disrespectful, but even so, the Northeastern crowd doing the tomahawk chop probably did more damage to our cause.

Cronin's approach very well could be what you say, PCM. However, I wonder what he would have said if you had told him that Mason was by no means the worst ref in the WCHA. In fact, he's quite "middle of the pack" in terms of quality. Yes, at times, I wish that CCHA ref would come back because of all the interference I saw in the game, but at least Mason allowed a flow. As for Cronin being a relative... Nah. Though he and I do apparently have a common interest: The betterment of WCHA officiating. Oh, btw, they showed one replay of the Carter Lee hit. They only had one angle of it (overhead) and it happened in the lower left part of the screen. It was definitely a hit from behind, but it wasn't the dangerous variety. In fact it looked so harmless that the TV announcers didn't even know what penalty was being called on whom until the REA arena announcer announced the penalty. I didn't see the Stafford hit from behind.

Ah. The players thing doesn't make sense. In all other levels of play the Canadian National Anthem is only played when one or both teams competing is Canadian. The parents weekend thing makes sense.

I don't really want to get into a pissing contest on this topic, but you were making a valid point... until your last paragraph, then I knew that you weren't really interested in making a valid point, you just wanted to take a stance of "Ha Ha! Let's make fun of Grand Forks! Ha Ha!" By the way, I'm from Fargo, I currently live in Fargo, my parents were on a committee set up by the Forum to help them figure out how well their readers viewed the Forum, and I've read the Forum most of my life. I can tell you that, leaving Sports entirely out of it, the Forum is lead by incompetants (though not so much now that Lou is gone). They have a general reputation of doing what all the conservatives are crying out the liberal media is doing: Choosing a point and then finding only data that supports the point, even if the point that is being made isn't the whole truth. Also, the Herald, for the most part, has NATIONAL or even INTERNATIONAL news on the front page with an occasional local story. The Fargo Forum RARELY has a National or International news story on its front page. There is more to the world than the Fargo-Moorhead area! Why have a local section if you are just going to put it on the front page anyways? I don't expect the Forum, in sports, to be all over UND athletics. I don't even expect UND to make the front page. However, I would expect them to use a pecking order when it comes to priorities in sports. For example, I expect F-M area and Minnesota Pro sports teams to be on the front page of the Sports section. It's the Fargo Newspaper, that's expected. But why should something largely peripheral, such as the status of pheasants in South Dakota, take a large piece of news when there is better sports news happening in North Dakota? This isn't saying that UND should have had that space, but surely South Dakota's pheasants are not first page news.

No, but as patriotic as I am, no one needs a 5 minute long National Anthem... And what is the deal with the Canadian anthem?

A TV-based recap here: 1. Announcers- I had audio today and I wish I didn't have it. Bredahl (Not Bierdahl as I originally thought) is an idiot. Sorry, but when you broadcast for a team, it's alright if you don't know much about the opponent, but it is inexcusable to not know about your own team. I can understand the slip of the tongue when he called Smaby "Mike Smaby" once. But not knowing the difference between Kyle Radke and Rylan Kaip historically is flabbergasting. Did he do any research at all? FYI- evidentally Kyle Radke missed most of the year last year to Post Concussion Syndrome. Sweeney must have bit his tongue off, or bit into Bredahl's stupidity. That's ok, though, in the postgame show, TH said we beat UNH tonight 2-1. 2. Zach Jones again taking penalties. It's fast growing apparent to me that the defenseman that I thought would have the shortest acclimation time to DI preseason may have a longer acclimation time than I thought. 3. Lee- Ok, I'm not as much of a homer on Lee as TH is, but the kid can play. Same thing for Chorney. 4. Radke looked AWESOME out there tonight. Great job on a great goal. Duncan's goal was sick good! However, Oshie's pass to Duncan was amazing. Oshie is really raising my eyebrows. Toews got robbed, though Northeastern was thankful for Mason's quick whistle. 5. GOaltending: Northeastern's goaltender is the only reason why this game was close. Lammy's only mistake was allowing the NOrtheastern player to get his stick underneath is skate. Even more running of the goaltender. Next year's "crackdown?" Is it me or did Lammy wander far more than Jordy did? 6. Yup. Mason gave NOrtheastern a gift. I saw a tripping call on Lammy that directly resulted in McCauley's goal. 7. Officiating was consistant at least. What wasn't a penalty last night largely wasn't tonight. What should have been a penalty last night should have been tonight and so on. 8. Stafford and Zajac.... how long will this drought last? 9. Watkins- Dude, you're fast! Use your speed! 10. Prpich was everywhere and probably could have been sent to the box for a few places he found himself. Oddly enough, the hand stayed down. The same thing could be said for the guy who pushed Stafford into the crossbar. That's gonna leave a mark. I think that's it for now.
-
A little of both. UAF has a good goaltender and good size up front. They play very physical. Their physicality knocked Minny off their game. If it weren't for Frazee tonight, UAF would have swept.
-
This isn't good for Sparky. As for the lines, this is intriguing. I suppose they wouldn't want to break up the Porter-Oshie-Toews line because of how well they played last night. However, I would have thought the Lefty first line (Stafford-Toews-Zajac) would have come back. Good thing I'm not coach One thing I hope results from this is that I hope Watkins uses his speed more. It didn't not seem like he was really willing to take the puck up ice. He's VERY fast, so why doesn't he use it to his advantage? Him and Zajac are very similar so far: Pass first, shoot last.

I watched the game on TV and I can say thanks to PCM for his recap. Otherwise I wouldn't have known that McCauley had gotten a 5 minute major for running the goalie. So, I revise my earlier statement about Mason. He gets MAJOR Kudos for not being afraid to call a major penalty. I am so used to crap like that not getting called that I was surprised to see him in the box at all, let alone for 5 minutes. And before you all ask, I was at a restaurant so they didn't have the volume up and FSSN doesn't put penalty times up on the screen. We only see "UND PP" or "NU PP" and that's it. "4on4" is seen too. It would be nice to know for how long and have it count down like you see on NHL or FSN broadcasts. Oh well. Back to Peppers tonight.
