Careful. WHen I said that RR and South were the top 2 teams in the state, I nearly got my head ripped off. You'd best say "RR and South are good. They are above most of the teams in the standings."

Diggler had his chance, now we have to hear solicitations from MinnesotaNorthStar about the Matt Jones jersey

As mentioned in the other thread, the Oilers also got Spacek from the Blackhawks. It is going to cost Greene playing time. You can hear Kevin Lowe (Oilers Coach) talk about the trades at the Oilers homepage. Lowe mentions Matt Greene (calls him 'Matt') and says that he'll lose ice time but he's young. The longer term news is that both Spacek and Tarnstrom are free agents at the end of the season.
-
I don't recall ever saying he was NOW. Lidstrom references is what he could develop into. If I weren't clear on that, I apologize.
-
Wasn't it vice versa when the Gophers played the Sioux? Woog said UND sweeps and PA and Boobay said Gophers sweep? :shrugs:

Wow I feel like a celebrity! I say something and it gets blown out of context! Now, if only I could be rich enough to be in that wacko cult...... Seriously, anyone have the game winning goal on mpeg or wmv or whatever from the Saturday gopher game?

My compare/contrast with Chorney and Greene: 1. Greene has more size so his hits are harder. 2. Greene's feistier physically. No, Chorney doesn't shy away from physical contact, but Greene is more likely to drop the gloves than Chorney IMO. THis has to do with PIMs and Chorney's ability to be in great position. 3. Chorney has an offensive upside. Greene's gonna be solid defensively, but don't expect much offense from him. Chorney has a good shot from the point. Given time to develop, it could be a GREAT shot from the point. 4. Chorney and Greene are about the same positionally. Chorney MIGHT have an edge on seeing the ice. Both are solid defensively, but Chorney, again with the offense side of things, could develop to be an outstanding outlet passer. 5. Chorney's faster than Greene. Not a whole lot of people can say that speed for a defenseman in the defensive zone is a primary asset, but consider this: Chorney has a great ability not only to recover if he's ever out of position, but usually he can recover if his linemate is caught out of position as well. It's a valuable asset to have. I wouldn't say that Chorney is Lidstrom-esque right now, but he has the POTENTIAL to become nearly as good defensively as Lidstrom a few years down the line. Edmonton drafted two great prospects in Chorney and Vandevelde. Vandevelde has size but is a bit of a project. However, he's got intangibles that will make Vandevelde a solid pick as well. Chorney, however, is a steal. I thought he'd go earlier in the 2nd round.

Not related really. I have the video of the Spirko undressing but does anyone happen to have the Zajac-Oshie 2 on 1 that resulted in the game winner? Woog's call of it was classic.

I actually was thinking more of that jersey-poppin' Irman's fault

CSTV Hobey Baker Watch release--Drew Stafford
redwing77 replied to siouxperstar's topic in Men's Hockey
Nope. As insensitive as it sounds, there are two things I think of when I think of his guitar playing: 1. That's nice, but don't quit your day jobs (athletics and academics) 2. It's going nowhere because Drew's eventually leaving town. In any case, hatties for Stafford this weekend! -
With Stafford already owning two WJC appearances (one gold medal and the other the Team USA MVP), an NC appearance, and thus far being 4th in the nation in goal scoring, I'm not sure Stafford could tail off? I don't think he's had a better year for goal scoring as a Sioux. Only Smaby is a bigger flight risk post season than Stafford.

Tonight I got a newfound respect for these recaps, PCM. I caught roughly half of the coaches show tonight (beginning up until after Hak made the remark about the shot blocking). I'll have to say it's nice to read your recaps because you cut alot of the crap out of it. I believe it was Swygman who spent nearly a minute blabbing about how to properly say Minnesota State University-Mankato and when you can and cannot use the different forms of it. I'll tell you, that was a minute spent where a caller could have used the airtime MUCH more efficiently than that crap. In any case, thanks PCM. The only thing I got confused about was this "review" process. What review process is he talking about? PCM already cited the rulebook. There IS no review process! It also seemed quite evident that Hak held his tongue during that portion of the interview. Well, either way, that puts two issues to bed: The DQ situation and who's gonna play for Radke and Finley on Friday.

Maybe he tripped the official?

KFAN guys said they would. I think it was using the Woog logic.

According to the coaches show, Kaip will more than likely play both nights vs. SCSU based on how Hakstol stated how impressed he was with Kaip on Saturday's game vs. MSUM. Need to edit: Everything else you state is correct. To be honest, though, I wasn't paying too much attention to Lee this past weekend.

I have to doubt that Morinville had anything to do with Jordy's decision like or hate him. After all, two of last year's big Moorhead "stars" committed to UND. He may not be a big time supporter of Sioux hockey (like JP Parise and, to a certain extent Tom Ward) but I doubt he said "Go to SCSU young man!"

Story on Sabres NCAA Prospects. It mentions Drew Stafford right away. It also mentions that the Sabres may attempt to sign him after this season to place him in Rochester. Not all that surprising to me.
-
If Minny loses every game from now until the rest of the season they'll go from 2nd to last place? Wow. I gotta play with this "what if" thing.
-
I only brought up Martens because, during the Harvard series, I thought he threw around his body a lot. It seemd a better alternative than Miller.
-
Some officials can't handle the truth, especially when given to them in the context of a game by a player. Seriously, no idea.
-
Yeah. I guess it's just frustratingly difficult for me to find what makes a good defensemen and goaltender recruits because I'm not a coach or a recruiter for that matter.
-
Or he could skip it altogether. A LOT can happen between 16 and 18 years of age. Kermit- Maybe. If they steer away from CHristian they must really be trying for Marvin and Winnett. I'm not sure we'll win out on Winnett though. --------------------- On a seperate note, am I the only one who thinks that the upcoming two years are seeing an upward trend in the quality of forwards and the decrease in quality defensive and goaltending recruits? It seems like the forwards are all that are mentioned and that there are MANY to choose from, yet nary a half dozen defensemen and goaltenders get the buzz going...
-
Precisely. You can't be poor in all those regards if his +/- is +13. That's impressive for a freshman (ok, Chorney's is 1 notch moreso). Finley hasn't been benched yet for poor play. Smaby was. Greene was. Commodore only played in 29 games as a freshman! I think, in the comparison with defensemen that most here would agree are fine defensemen, Finley isn't doing bad at all. PLUS he's a senior in high school chronologically. Every player gets and sometimes deserves criticism, but I would say that bad games are the only thing Finley needs to steer away from right now. The rest is coming along nicely. Even his physical play is up.
