I agree completely. This would be incredibly stupid on O'Brien's part and just a bad move overall by Ottawa. O'Brien is talented but extremely young and rough around the edges. We aren't talking Toews talented either at O'Brien's age. I think Minnesota has been down this path before: Kris Chucko. The only difference is that O'Brien may leave just before school starts while Chucko was being courted while the season was going on. I don't like the Gophers and O'Brien was behind some pretty cheap acts last season (I believe he punched a goaltender...Mankato's? goaltender at one point last season) but O'Brien would be retarded to take money that will come to him whether he signs now or waits even one more year.

It does say "Maybe not the best player or the biggest name" as well. They've tended in the past to stick to people who aren't as well known. All last season it was Chorney, Oshie, Toews, and Duncan. I would be very surprised to see any of these (well, especially Toews because he's gone now). I think, among defenseman, going with the quoted part above, I'd expect someone like Jones or Genoway to be featured. Among forwards, Radke or Miller or some of our less known players would be featured. Just my guess. -
You're thinking of abstinence.

So, when we measure in feet, we're using PCM's foot size as reference? How old was PCM when his foot was measured? Was his arch taken into account? I suppose the same would be for hand-spans... I don't want to know what he used to determine how heavy a "stone" translates to. One last thing: I wonder if there was a fiasco when it came to "foot-pounds?"

I agree completely. I don't know how long Brady will be in the AHL, but he will definitely start the year in the AHL at least. Brady, at least when I watched him, plays the type of game that really works in the new NHL. I don't know how his game will directly translate to the NHL either. However, I look forward to hearing about his progress.

I'm adding writers of advertisements (TV and radio mainly) to the list. Just because you can get an actor or actress to act like a complete idiot doesn't mean you will be able to sell your product!

I said "there are many" I did not say "all kids." I had to share a suite with a young lady and her 3 year old son. First mistake: They came early enough to watch warm ups. 10 minutes into the game, this kid was going person to person trying to talk to them. He was very friendly and, if it wasn't for the fact that there was a game going on, it would have been considered entertaining. However, the kid was BORED. I know that when I was 4, there was no way I could have sat through a game. No way.
-
This is a good one. Also I'll add: -- People who bring young children (less than 6 years old) and then get frustrated 15 minutes into the hockey game when the kid gets bored and starts finding other means of entertainment (usually resulting in "acting up"). I guess I'm a curmudgeon but I feel there are many kids who, though they may like hockey, aren't mature enough to actually sit through a game. It might be better if mom and dad simply didn't bring the kid or watched the game on TV so that the kid can come and go as he/she feels fit. -- Obnoxious conversations at the game, especially during play. It doesnt always occur with a cell phone. -- People who can't read signs/don't listen to instructions. Primary example: "Please wait until the puck is no longer in play before leaving or returning to your seat." I understand with small kids that, if they have "to go" they have "to go," but otherwise, sit/stand at your seat and follow the darn directions! -- People who don't pay attention to/care about the parking attendants who direct traffic after the game. As a pedestrian, I've seen 3 near misses (car vs. attendant) and one near car collision. Idiots. -- Hey, do they have adds for the jumbotron that are less than 5 years old? -- Can they do anything with he marquis other than display ads? -- Fans who have to taunt specific players on their OWN team at the game whenever the player touches the puck and/or skates nearest to their seats. -- People who say "You know they can't hear you!"

Diggler just reeks of positivity.
-
To add to Diggler's nice list: -- Some assembly required when "some assembly" is more like "everything except for the actual construction of individual components requires assembly" -- People who feel that they can talk anywhere and everywhere including in the middle of streets, behind parked cars that isn't theirs, behind parked cars that are theirs but stand in such a way as to impede traffic...etc. -- People who talk to motorists when they themselves are not in the same vehicle. -- Old people wearing pants in an old person-type fashion (up to the ole armpits) -- Old people who drive like anything over 5 mph is driving with your hair on fire. -- People who make endless commentary during movies or theatrical performances. -- Cell phones...ANYWHERE. -- Apartment managers. -- Goldmark Properties -- People who decide to engage you in conversation while, the whole time, listening to a portable audio device that ISN'T a hearing aid. -- People who don't know how to wear a hat. Sorry guys, forwards or backwards. Any variation is wrong. Floating caps should be illegal. -- People who swear in front of kids. -- Back handed compliments. To go along with this: People who are shocked and appalled when the reaction to said backhandedness isn't something along the lines of flattery and gratitude. -- The term "blind faith" -- Scientology -- People who proselytize (foist some sort of idea or belief, usually religion, upon other people) -- People who feel their child(ren) can do nothing wrong. I'm sure there are others.

Maybe so, and I would agree with you if it was just losing players to the NHL. I feel differently if a player leaves for Major Juniors. If the player isn't getting playing time, that's one thing, but otherwise, losing a player to MJ sucks and I'm more willing to be sympathetic in that case. Pauko can come or go, it isn't going to matter, but most of my sympathy with DU lies if the Seabrook rumor is proven true.
-
I'd go down the list from last year and my choice would be the highest finisher on the list that is still currently on the team.
-
Seabrook would be a loss. Paukovitch wouldn't really be much of a loss. I don't know what it is other than size that has Edmonton abuzz about him. EDIT: I'll put it this way: I'd take Blake Wheeler over Pauko even without the Bina tragedy. Wheeler can score every now and then. Adding Miani (sp?) means that DU gets faster, something DU HAS to do in order to keep up with Minnesota, UND, and even SCSU and CC. DU plays a better game than UW, but both are painful to watch at times.

HAKSTOL 9 MONTHS and change LEFT ON CONTRACT!
redwing77 replied to the"source"'s topic in Men's Hockey
True. Guess that's the short way of saying it. I say it over and over again (and everyone is tired of hearing it I know) but this is a TEAM sport. We win as a team and lose as a team. If you place blame on an individual for a TEAM loss, then what does that do for you? What did the rest of the team do to get a pass while this individual, coach or player, gets the blame? It's like blaming JPar for the loss vs. DU. We lost 1-0. Jordan gets the blame but what about the rest of the team? If Jordan would have played better, would we have scored more goals than 0? Please. We have the players. We have the coaching. Now we need to play as a team and get the job done as a TEAM. -

HAKSTOL 9 MONTHS and change LEFT ON CONTRACT!
redwing77 replied to the"source"'s topic in Men's Hockey
Would Hakstol have made a difference in Parise's play? How about would he have made the defense play better? Pinning the coach as the defining reason or main reason or most qualifiable reason why we haven't won a title despite attending 3 frozen fours is ridiculous. Scotty Bowman could coach a team with every known hall of famer on the roster in their prime, but some times, they are just going to lose and there is nothing to be done about it. A coach can only get the team ready to play and make adjustments during play to help the team try to win. So far, Hakstol has done that. The rest of the accountability falls on the players. We seem to place too much on the coach. Then again, we live in a world where reality is secondary to expectation. -

There's only one event that is more certain during the Sioux hockey season than a "Fire Hakstol" thread: Christmas -
I didn't. Those of us with knowledge about the word that sounds identical to that phrase thought the representation was rather inappropriate.

Let me tell you something, Exiled One: SCSU now has a better goaltending tandem than UW and CC despite the lack of experience. Connelly and Weslosky are similar in that they've only seen very limited time against opponents that have the talent to actually beat them. O'Connell has seen even less time and hasn't looked good in the time he's been in. Weslosky looked alright from what I saw. Sure, we beat him when we faced him, but very few teams in the nation, imo, could have beaten us at that time of the season. Will Goephert be missed? Definitely. Is SCSU in trouble in this area? No, not really. Defense may be more of a problem. Dunn will platoon with Weslosky, especially since both goaltenders need developing and both are NHL draftees (I would think the drafting teams would be in close contact with the Huskies coaching staff about issues specific to their draft choices right from the start). In my opinion, the top five goaltending tandems in the WCHA: 1. MTU 2. DU 3. UND 4. UMN 5. SCSU

Article states he's a free agent. Don't think he was released. Sioux Traveler- Who and When will sign Zach Parise? I agree with AZSioux that he will more than likely end up a Devil. Espcially since the Devils lost the bidding war on Sheldon Souray. If you are wondering if there is competition to sign him, the answer is yes. Kevin Lowe (GM of the Edmonton Oilers) has expressed interest in going after Zach after he lost the bidding war over Thomas Vanek.
