  1. Ni disrespect to Oshie, but apparently you have to score goals in order to have a good game. Chorney is in trouble. So is Finley. Heck, I don't think a UND goaltender has had a good game in quite a while then. No disrespect taken, though. Unless Forney starts scoring at Oshie's pace, I'm not sure Forney will ever get out from under the "bust" cloud. Realistically speaking, though, I think he did DAMN good for the situation. Nearly scored his first goal, contributed well. Way to go Michael.
  2. How embarrassing to see UAA defeated by Woog's idiot broadcasting partner.
  3. I say work for three years, bend our backs to try to work things out. We go into it FULLY expecting the tribes to turn us away EVERY time but the first time (I'm sure they'll be curious as to what approach we'll take to try to win them over). There is NO WAY IN HELL the tribes will compromise. They don't want to because even in a compromise, they have to give something up. They don't want to give something up, they want to dictate policy to the majority. So, while these "negotiations" are taking place, here are a few things I'd do at various stages of the game: 1. Perform market analysis and focus groups to come up with alternate nicknames (after 2 years have elapsed) 1a. Look at ways to switch to new nickname. Financial reasons. Approach the tribes (after 3years are up). 2. Evaluate Native American programming, scholarships, and such for realistic applicability. What I mean is not to cut programs or eliminate scholarships. Far from it. What I mean is to eliminate any policies or requirements therein that place Native Americans over what other groups getting the same services get. For example, if (hypothetically) a Native American student must only maintain a 2.5 GPA to maintain a nursing scholarship, whereas anyone else must maintain a 2.9 GPA, the requirement for Native AMericans should go up to 2.9. So, scholarships would be for Native Americans still, but they'd be no different from anyone else. Keep the programs and schollies, eliminate what makes them so special above non-Native American programs and schollies. 3. Plateau non-NA funding for NA programming (after the 3 years). If they want more money into the programs, set up a direct method of funding the tribes can contribute to to increase it. Cite a costly nickname change as the reason why. The money to change everything has to come from somewhere. 4. I still maintain the tribes should pay most of the costs regarding the removal of NA symbols in the REA. We can go by it by using the stupid...I mean sensitive methodology that the pro-changers use: If moving a garbage can over the marble logos is offensive, then surely the jackhammers removing the logos would be too, right? So, the tribes pay for it and can supervise removal and perhaps have NA workers do the job. They can then purchase all the excess Fighting Sioux gear at wholesale where they can take to their reservations and burn them for all we care. UND would then be responsible for installing the new motif. As for the statue out front....I say take it off the pedestal and melt it down to make a new bronze statue of whatever we change to (I hope it is Fighting Cavalry). No donations. No freebies. We know they don't want to work with us. If they did, they already would have. This was no settlement. This was a victory for Bernard DUMBASS Franklin and his PC hippie friends.
  4. A force is mass times acceleration. OR, you could go the Merriam Webster way and say that a force is "strength or energy exerted or brought to bear " or another definition found here.
  5. So, let's see.... a poster with 24 posts gets told off by a poster with 59 posts who then gets told off by a poster who has 25 posts... Comedy.
  6. shortbusguy lost me at "You're all...." Classifying an entire fanbase as something just doesn't work. And in case anyone is wondering... I don't know if Stoa had any affect on the Gophers last weekend. Could he actually make them play with more urgency as a team? Could he get them all to move their feet more? Seriously, CC routinely beat UMN to the puck, forechecked better than the Gophers, passed better than the Gophers (WOW! I usually am the one who says MN's passing game is top of the league!), and played more sound hockey that UMN. I don't think Stoa's presence would have helped them resolve team apathy.
  7. I hope Martens and Forney platoon. I like both, but I really want to see what a healthy Forney plays like.
  8. Couldn't agree more, but it won't happen. A few reasons: 1. Too costly. THey'd have to fire many personnel (including Greg Shepherd) and train in new staff to do it. 2. It would mean McLeod admitting that he was wrong at something. He was wrong about the direction the WCHA officiating was going. He was wrong that hiring Greg Shepherd full time would solve the officiating problem... and so on. Administrators with egos like McLeod's are many things, but they are NEVER wrong (in their eyes anyways).
  9. The announcer couldn't keep up with it. What a beautiful goal. A flipping 1 on 3 and he made them look silly.
  10. In a spout of homerism.... Prpich may not be a scorer. He may not be flashy. But I thought his good year last year would have put him in a hockey league overseas that is better than the UK system. I thought if he couldn't make the Swedish or Finnish Leagues, at least he could make the DEL (German league) or something. I don't think Cardiff will put him in a better position imo.... Tough luck for Mike.

I'm not worrying about the Frozen Four until we make the playoffs.

    WCHA News

The "neat" thing about that punishment is that it isn't punishment at all. Ok, maybe missing practice might be punishment. But seriously, how much of a deterrent is not being allowed to play in an exhibition game? Stats don't count...game doesn't count. Therefore, I argue the suspension doesn't count. They just got a two week vacation that's all. Whoopdedoo.
  13. As someone whose athletic abilities would alone make Goon and PCM world-class by comparison, I too agree with that sentiment.
  14. Yup. I never saw Radke as much of a scorer. I know he did well for the Grande Prairie of the AJHL, but very rarely does offensive defensemen stats carry over to the NCAA. I did think he'd be more responsible in the offensive zone, though. I don't know who I'd sit to play Forney. I just want Forney to earn a spot. I think he's good.
  15. Uh.... Right state, wrong team. You're thinking Minnesota Twins. As for Stoa, bad loss for the Gophers, but looking at their team, they can lose a forward or two and not have a significant drop off in talent or ability to win. If Stoa were a defenseman, I'd think this would be very bad for the team. Minnesota is a very talented team offensively. Losing Stoa will hurt, but I don't think it will be that bad for them.
  16. I'd be surprised if it was more than 2 points.
  17. Chay's goal was good, but I think VV's goal was the best. To be able to swat it out of the air and into the net takes skill. To do so and not have the stick above the crossbar level (interpretted rather than reality. Everyone remembers the one ZPar scored that I think Sheperd waved off). Actually, each goal was impressive. Also I must note that the size of Lerg's 5 hole was impressive as well. I think half the goals and the nongoal went in 5 hole IIRC.
  18. Bucky's game didn't surprise me. Sometimes tOSU can come and play. Not consistently, but still... The SCSU tie really surprises me. Bad game by SCSU.
  19. Thanks for the info. I typed the question about the Oshie ejection before I saw RedFrog's videos. Seeing the video, I know that absolutely it was a penalty. It was a stupid penalty by Oshie. Was it a CFB? With the new rules and only the video as reference, I couldn't find sufficient means to argue against it. Though it was a shove, the MSU player went head first into the boards. He did a good job in selling the severity of the check laying motionless on the ice long enough for everyone to leave the zone.
  20. Actually, they're worse. They've lived with Comley for 6 years as their head coach. We've got a few more years to go before we're at their level with Hakstol. I didn't get to see the game tonight. I have a few questions: 1. Who played, Marto or LaPoint? Though I noticed he (whomever it is) didn't score a goal, how did he play? 2. How did Kozek do? 3. Was the call vs. Oshie legit? 4. Was the game as much of a blowout as the score describes?
  21. He didn't have to! All he did was wave a hand at the ice in a dismissive fashion, turn his back on the ice and then returned to coaching his team. At that point he had to say to his team: "Ok, boys, we acquitted ourselves well. Too bad the Gophers are going to win this one. Let's see how long can we delay the inevitable." Seriously, the crap they endured.... they last over 3 minutes! I'm impressed with this RPI team. I'm pretty sure the Gophers would have won in OT anyways, but it stinks the refs had to get involved.
  22. I know it is obvious to us, but I wonder if Bo yet realizes that he's done in Boston? If he does, he needs a new agent. I'd want off that team as fast as possible. I could function in the game time role Bo is right now.
  23. It was interesting to watch the RPI bench after the call. The FSN North camera crew put the camera on him just so everyone would know that, at that time, it dawned on RPI who was going to win the game. I was impressed RPI didn't just roll over. I am sure Thul the tool expected them to. Heck, they nearly tied it with seconds left! Well, I think the two ref system like it was tonight is good in the NHL system, but it will be a miserable failure in the WCHA. In order for that system to work, you must have competent officials and competent administration. The WCHA has neither.
  24. The Bruins are one of the worst teams in the NHL, if not the worst. The shutouts don't surprise me. I never claimed the Mild sucked at defense or goaltending. In fact, that's their strength right there. Edmonton isn't playing very well. I caught the last 5 minutes of the 3rd period of that game and noticed that the word SLOPPY suited them best. When they needed to be sharp, they sucked. They actually back-passed in their own zone with an empty net with less than 30 seconds in the game! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! They then miss the puck and allow Minnesota to get in there and jam the puck against the boards. WOW! If Edmonton keeps that up, it's gonna be a long season for them. As for the Wild, they were sloppy in the 3rd period last night according to the radio guys. But at least they could afford to be. Backstrom is turning into a really good goaltender.
