A lot of staff's do that, not just NDSU. But, pretty sure that UND has no bargaining power when it comes to this type of situation so I don't think they said anything like that.
He is talking about being able to feed themselves. They have the same dorm food and scholarship room and board allotment that everyone before them had-at EVERY college in America. But now suddenly kids are starving and can't make it. How did the kids before them feed themselves and also get bigger and achieve success? What a mystery.
I cannot believe all the football players that came before these poor kids were able to actually put in 5 years of work and win dozens of conference championships and even a national championship. I mean, they had to feed themselves or eat dorm food. How did they survive?
There is a huge dropoff as the draft goes on. They needed a reliable point guard to distribute once Rubio gets hurt so I like it. They gave up Rakeem Christmas from the Cuse (meh) and some guard from Turkey. I would say it was a pretty good trade.
Exactly. What are the merits for not having a nickname? UND is already "North Dakota" on all their marketing stuff - they can go by that for the next 200 years, just as they did before. Sioux sometimes, North Dakota sometimes, UND sometimes.
The hockey team also has a 100 million dollar arena to sell and possibly the best history in the NCAA hockey. Football and basketball do not and have to fight for everything they get just to try and build their program. Anything that can be used against them is a problem. The conference and name issue were verified problems.
2007-2012. Once the Big Sky move was named it stopped alot of it. UND had the double whammy going against them with no conference and NCAA sanctions being levied if they didn't get approval from tribes. It was bad around 2010-2012. Local teams did whatever they could to "remind" recruits about all the issues up in Grand Forks.
I don't think the name issue comes up anymore since the NCAA backed off.
