This comparison is nonsense. Everyone knows a nickname can't cause anaphylactic shock.

This guy (Chuck Horter) is on the task force. I would think they have figured this out before making this statement at a public meeting. The NCAA is done with this deal. They won't care if we're North Dakota or The Fenceposts, just that we're not Fighting Sioux.

"We have a period of detente for right now and I think the best thing we can do at this point is that if we cannot be 'Fighting Sioux' at least today, then no other name can replace what we had and let's stay 'North Dakota' because North Dakota is also a name we can be proud of," says UND alumnus Sean Johnson. Task Force Representative Chuck Horter says the school does not have to select a new nickname at all. "We can be just North Dakota, we can select a new nickname, but we don't have to select a new nickname. That's why we need your feedback," says Horter. This from the meeting in Bismarck last night. I am for just being North Dakota, however if it comes down to having to have a nickname (which I'm still not convinced of), has Big Green been mentioned? Big Red works for Cornell and they don't have an official mascot. Flame away.

TCOS-LOL Some teams do it after every game,win or lose. The Sioux only do it after a home sweep. That's what makes it special.

So what? UND has officially retired the Fighting Sioux nickname. They have met the legal requirements of the NCAA. If the fans continue to use the Fighting Sioux name, I believe this is still the United States of America and we still have something called the right of free speech. You seem to be so worried about appeasing the NCAA and the perpetually aggrieved. UND has. I sir, and I believe many other fans and alumni, are not, nor do we have to.
