  1. nevermind. i see they rank all teams regardless of division.
  2. doesn't mankato still play d2? are d2 schools ranked alongside fcs teams in the ranking system to which you are referring?
  3. it was a little under three years ago that he said this: "We're going to take the Gopher Nation to Pasadena" he must have been talking about his long term goal. he better make something happen soon though or he won't have that opportunity.
  4. man, cal poly (a team und dominated) had an easier time with sdsu than did umn today. if any gopher fan is happy with the win today, then that person has very low expectations for his/her team. perhaps rightfully so. the gopher football and hockey teams simply look terrible this year. i'd hate to have to watch that garbage week in and week out; that would make my blood boil.
  5. we really need to win both these games. if we drop back to back sub four point weekends to uaa and umt, that could play havoc on the confidence going forward. we started the season with a pretty easy schedule, which isn't typical of this team, so we need to capatalize and get four more points this weekend.
  6. nevermind, i saw somebody else posted it's nov 30 2010. i knew feb 2010 was earlier than i had heard a while back.
  7. they say "we always were". it's a staple of all hockey teams after a penalty kill.
  8. it is humorous to hear confused hockey fans mis-use common chants such as using the gopher rejects chant when we're playing cc. i had a friend in college who didn't understand that sieve was directed at the goalie. i had to explain the meaning of the chant after repeatedly observing him doing the sieve chant while performing the chopping motion toward any old person; ref, players on the other side of the ice from the opponent's goalie, fans in the stands. it was pretty funny.
  9. i agree. i've been to sioux games in several arenas where we were the visiting team and i've never had one issue with anybody. i know it happens, but if it's happening several times to one person on multiple outings, then i think that one person needs to look at his own behavior.
  10. yeah, i saw an opening and i took it. i'll try to class it up a bit in the future.
  11. well, that last statement is all the proof i need. gopherz is definitely a true gopher fan. zing!
  12. the sieve chant has been hockey-wide for decades. gophers do not get any credit for that one. as far as i'm concerned, lord stanley himself came up with it.
  13. agreed. i think a discussion about potential team issues in the locker room is appropriate on a message board for that team. staying afoot of incidents that could affect the team if not dealt with is part of following a sports team. like goon said, if it was something the team really wanted to keep a secret, hakstol wouldn't have said anything about it.
  14. i know, but like i said, i'm a details guy when it comes to competition. setting ground rules that make it as cheat proof as possible, regardless of the likelihood of cheating, is often an important detail. sounds like they want to keep it casual though, which is cool.
  15. this is real honor system scenario you got going on here. if azsioux simply waited for gopherz picks every week and made the exact same picks, then he couldn't lose because he already has the lead. unless of course there's a clause whereby the first to pick alternates each week. even better, if you both want to send me your picks each week, i can post them at the same time every thursday afternoon or whenever you'd like. then again, maybe this isn't a concern for either of you. i already know that i'm a details guy when it comes to competition.
  16. i've definitely noticed that trend in the nfl. it seems that every time there's a concern that a team will struggle in a given week because some star player on their team is sick, that player goes off on a career game.
  17. my wife is a uw graduate and, therefore, a devoted badger football fan. as a result, i've adopted the badgers as my favorite fbs team. i'm going to the badger-iowa game tomorrow. this will be my first experience at a big time college outdoor stadium. obviously the badgers didn't expect iowa to be as tough as they are because they chose them to play at uw's homecoming. hopefully the fact that it's homecoming will give the badgers some extra motivation to pull out a win against a tough iowa team. ok, i'm rambling. i do have a question though. if anybody reading this lives in madison, i'd like to know if the bars (i believe we're going to the kollege klub) show the gopher hockey games. i'm excited to see the badger-iowa game, but i hate to miss the sioux-gopher game tomorrow night (i'll probably just watch it online tonight). on a side note, my wife was never a big hockey fan while she was at uw so i'm very close to convincing her to back the sioux 100% and root for them even if they're playing the badgers. i just think it'll make it easier to live with me during those games.
  18. the whole recruiting from your home state plan is very appealing to teams in states that have strong youth programs in the sport in question. obviously mn has a very strong youth hockey program; all the way from pee-wee through high school. i don't think north dakota's 400,000 population and sinking would ever give us a chance if we had to abide by some in-state recruiting rule. in fact, most d1 college hockey programs wouldn't survive under those conditions. i'm sure even gopher fans would agree that having only 20 or so teams in d1 college hockey would be a real bummer. that's would happen though if some in-state recruiting standard was adopted by all teams.
  19. that importing thing is a bunch of malarkey. this is college, not high school. the whole idea of putting together a strong program in any sport is to properly recuit; from anywhere you can find the talent. what if football had that mindset? nobody would ever beat the texas universities (that's a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the idea). i didn't hear gopher fans complaining too much when vanek was their top player and he's not even from north america. as for not filling the xcel at tourney time. is that true? i feel like it's pretty packed whenever i go to final five games. let's assume you are correct and mn can't fill the arena, the fact that the guy you're talking to tried to make a reason for that makes it clear that you're talking to a guy who's going to make a reason for anything. i know i do the vikings analogy a lot, but when they don't sell out the dome for a game and my packer fan friends talk trash about it, all i can say is "yep, it's lame". i accept the fact that my team's fans are not living up to the expectations of a fanbase when the dome doesn't sell out, i don't make excuses. as for there being nothing else going on in grand forks, well i have to agree with your friend (except the fact that he included hunting and fishing in his list of things to do in mn because you can do those in nd or go to mn to do those things if you live in gf). who cares though, sioux hockey is awesome, that's what you'd want to be doing on game day anyways.
  20. blah, blah, blah. it doesn't matter. und is not ralph engelstad. und fans are not ralph engelstad. und athletes are not ralph engelstad. the und nickname is not ralph engelstad. the und logo is not ralph engelstad. by your logic, we should do an investigation of every person who ever donated money to a university. for every person we find who has anything that could possibly be construed as seedy in their past, we must change the nickname and logo of the university to which they made donations and tear down anything that was built using those donation dollars. the nickname and logo debate has nothing to do with ralph engelstad. if you want to start a thread about re-naming the hockey arena because you believe it's named after a "bad" man, then go to your university's message board and take care of business.
  21. is the goal of this conversation to argue a team to victory? they're still going to play no matter which of you comes up with the best stats, right? i hope so. i mean, yeah, the sioux are clearly the better team in the history of this rivalry, but the excitement of the game actually playing out is much more fun than calling the winner based on history. i sure hope the league decides to determine a winner by head-to-head competition this weekend. that's the best part.
  22. nevermind. i see you already posted your source: fightingsioux.com
  23. solid facts. nice work. where did you find this? i'd like to keep my eye on your source in case something similar is released about the hockey game. i hope this isn't going to be the process for every home hockey series this year. i'd certainly like to know a little bit ahead of time whether i'll be able to catch it at home.
