nice. i think it's clear what's happened in this league. und has earned a reputation as a highly physical team. there's no arguing the validity of that and there's nothing wrong with that either. playing physical is not against the rules. now that und carries that reputation into the ralph and every other venue in which we play every year, the opposing team often feels they have to play equally as physical in order to keep up. it's now obvious that coaches besides hakstol are not very good at getting the message across that although they want to see physical play, they also want to see legal play. so teams go against und with the mindset that they're going to be just as physical. when it becomes clear that they can't keep up with the physical play of the sioux, they get frustrated and go over the top; drawing a penalty, suspension, and seriously injuring one of our players. my advice to other teams: play your game when you play und or anybody else. you're not a physical team so don't try to be one. the fact is, you don't have to be a physical team to beat a physical team. play with your stengths rather than trying to match the strengths of your opponent. a team that plays with finesse is not necessarily at a disadvantage when playing against a physical team. i think sticking to what works for you will not only give you a better chance of beating any team, but you'll significantly reduce your risk of drawing penalties and suspensions and you'll reduce the risk of seriously injuring a fellow collegiate hockey player.

i think it has potential to make a difference. it's certainly a distraction to the team, plus it might give mankato some much needed confidence. let's not forget either that mankato can be tough when they have something to play for and they might look at this as their chance to sweep a better team right before the playoffs and it's always good to get some momentum going into the post-season. that being said, i still don't see mankato taking more than 2 points at best this weekend. mankato is my second team (i graduated from mankato after eight years of college between und and msu; and, no, i'm not a doctor, i just really liked college)...so go mavs!

we'll focus on games and playoffs as they come. this article was just released so naturally we're going to discuss it. besides, i'm sure the team moved on a long time ago and this thread will not be read by any of them and will not be a distraction. we're just a bunch of talking heads. our ramblings on this forum likely do not help or hinder the team on game day.

i was thinking the same thing. i view the current wcha leadership the same way most of the people on this forum do. however, they may have hit marvin a little harder by waiting until now to suspend him; saavy play for once by mcleod and company or coincidence?
-
there has been video evidence of marvin's obvious dirty play where he's going for the head of a player not engaged in play at the puck provided by fans from mankato, und, wisconsin, and minnesota on different blogs i've looked at throughout the season. let's see your video evidence of und's alleged hits to the head against st cloud.

i'm not pinning hopes on anything. just wanted to make sure i understood where we stood on tie-breakers in the unlikely event we're tied for 3rd after next weekend. it would be nice to move up to at least fourth though since then it would be possible for st cloud to go down in the first round of the playoffs, which would keep us out of the play-in game. i expect, though, that we'll need three wins in the final five to take the title.

logically speaking, yes, i agree with you. mathematically speaking, though, is my logic sound?

i'm posting this scenario in hopes that our collective minds can either prove or disprove the possibility of this scenario playing out. if the following all happen next weekend: 1. north dakota sweeps michigan tech 2. duluth gets 2 points or less against alaska-anchorage 3. st cloud is swept by mankato then the sioux would finish the regular season in 3rd place in the wcha standings. i believe this is correct for the following reasons: a. we'd have as many or more points than duluth and we have the head-to-head tie-breaker over duluth b. we'd be tied with st cloud for points, we'd have a split in the head-to-head with st cloud, we'd have the same number of conference wins as st cloud, and we'd have less goals scored against us in the four games we've played against st cloud this season then st cloud had scored against them in those four games i think scerios 1 and 2 above are quite likely. sweeping tech in grand forks should be expected; not that we should take tech for granted, but anything other than a sweep would be a disappointment. as far as scenario 2 is concerned, alaska-anchorage is just fiesty at home so i could easily see the seawolves taking 2 points or more from duluth next weekend. the third scenario is not very likely. i simply don't see mankato sweeping st cloud next weekend. however, if all three scenarios play out as above, is the logic i've deployed above that leaves north dakota in 3rd place sound? is there something i'm missing that gives the tie-breaker to st cloud if all three scenarios above come true? thanks

anybody know if the bu / vermont game today can move us up or down in the pwr?
-
APPARENTLY, connolly was also hung by a flagpole by his underwear after the game...or so i assume. i said apparently so nobody can say this isn't great reporting.
-
true. however, if you read my post closer, you'll see that i assumed the gophers get 2 or less points against duluth, which would still allow them to pass cc the last weekend of the regular season.
-
ideally we want two things to happen this weekend: 1. we sweep cc 2. gophers get 2 points or less at duluth if these two things happen, then we're guaranteed home ice in the first round of the playoffs no matter what happens when mtu comes to town. i'd also like to point out that if we do sweep cc this weekend, then the gophers could put themselves in a position to overtake cc the last weekend of the regular season, which would mean we'd play the gophers in the first round of the playoffs. i know there's a lot of ifs in there, but i don't think those ifs are too far-fetched. umn did just sweep cc easily this past weekend and duluth has been struggling for about a month now. i'm not sure how i feel about the prospect of playing the gophers in the first round. part of me hates the idea of giving them a chance to beat us since i'd have to hear about it from the fair weather gopher fans that suddenly pop up all over my workplace and social circles any time the gophers are able to muster a win vs the sioux; mind you, these are the same people that could care less about the gophers when they're not winning, so basically, typical gopher fans. on the other, it would be sweet to have the chance to end the gopher's season in grand forks. i don't know where to begin computing the gophers pairwise potential at this point, but i'd have to think that sweeping duluth and wisconsin would not be enough to get them into the ncaa tourney so they'd have to get through us to extend their season. likely they'll have to win the wcha tourney in order to keep their season alive. anyways, let's sweep cc this weekend, then go from there. go sioux!

from wcha.com: a) If two or more teams are tied, head-to-head competition during the regular (conference) season will be used to break the tie b) If two or more teams are still tied after (a), the highest seed will go to the team with the most WCHA (conference) wins during the regular season c) If two or more teams played a two or four-game series during the regular season and the teams have the same win-loss records for those series and the same number of WCHA wins, the team having the the least number of goals scored against it in the two or four-game series shall have the higher rank d) If two or more teams are still tied after applying the provisions of (a), (b) and ©, the team having the greatest 'winning margin' during the regular season will have the higher rank. Winning margin = WCHA goals for during the regular season minus WCHA goals against e) Games played against WCHA opponents in holiday tournaments will not be counted in the above determinations.

i'm ignorant to all these rules. however, if what you've stated is the case, then, if necessary, a little acting on chay's part shouldn't be too tough; provided he even wants to come back next year.
-
that is a tough call. i mean, if he's ready to go and can compete at the high level he expects of himself, then we could sure use him. at the same time, if he's not ready to perform at his peak, then we lose any chance of getting him back next year if we play him this year. if i were the coach, i'd ask him to evaluate himself and tell me if he feels he can compete at a level worthy of his potential. if he says he can, put him in. if he's not fully confident that he's at that point yet, then try for a medical hardship and hope to have him ready to play next year. athletes at his level know themselves and they know their bodies. i'd trust him to know what's best for himself.

cause when you're forced to pay back money you illegally "borrowed" from the taxpayers, rather than going to prison as you should, then it's not called stealing, right? actually, no, it's still stealing. so i'd say stole is not only the appropriate word, but the only accurate word.

with all the characters in this story and the complex web of deceit and manipulation, this really could make for a great movie plot. just think, if the movie did well enough, the whole country could know what a loser bruce mcleod is, which would make me feel a little better each time he screwed over our team.
-
not that i saw. they are on fcs both nights for those with comcast or other cable providers that carry all three fcs channels of course, it's also on fssn so you can pay to watch it online
-
most probably already know this, but i thought it was worth noting: firday night's game: directv 617 saturday night's game: directv 623
-
you are correct. scoreless 1st period. 6 goals in the 2nd. 2 goals in 3rd, both by frattin.

i could start going backwards through all 70 pages of this thread until i figure out what's going on, but it would be easier if somebody would be kind enough to fill me in. what's this talk about making four super-conferences and what's the source of the idea? thanks
-
i'm by no means a pwr expert, but if we sweep, we'll get at least one more point by having the point over duluth, which we currently do not have. plus if other games this coming weekend go our way, we could be in the top 10 again. a sweep this weekend really couldn't come at a better time (except in post-season of course)
-
all this talk about retaliation against marvin reinforces the notion that whoever said "two wrongs don't make a right" was not a hockey fan.

joe finley's first nhl fight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbYe1vgQjoA...feature=related looks like he won handily in that one. although i do think he got worked in another non-nhl pro fight.
