  1. This guy needs to check his facts. I was at the game that Travis got an assist against Chicago. Played great and could definitley help the team in the absence of Ronning who was the offensive defensemen for the Wild on Powerplays last year. This is a role that he could definitely fill. He certainly has the upperhand on Michelav on age and maturity alone.
  2. I expected this kind of reaction from you all and it truly is frustration speaking. You all must keep in mind that I bleed green and deep down no matter how hard I tried could I ever really hope for a down season. You all make valid points. Some for and some against. I strong appreciate the support of those of you that agree and would continue to challange the arguments against. Some say it is not uncommon to pay those prices at Marriucci. True, but let me point out the population variation between the two cities (oh, by the way for the future wear your Sioux gear and when out of town you will find Sioux fans that are stuck with tickets that will give you a fair shake. If that fails take it off and buy after the puck has dropped). There are those that said that people are paying the price and that is causing the increase. You are right and shame on those for fueling the fire. For those that try to cloud the situation with facts amen to your research, but I never said that I was opposed to $20 - $30 a ticket. I am opposed to $100 - $200 a ticket, get real: Most importantly tickets would not be in such high demand if the majority of the people attending the games were truly there to support the team. Do a head check in the end bars and those that are not facing forward and you will see what I mean. Engelstad Arean has become Grand Forks' answer to the Kit Kat Club. I also blame the Ralph for the cause of some of this situation. $20 for a Wild pre season game. Get real! $12 At the X and much like the Ralph, no bad seat. UND isn't any better. Mandatory donantions to qualify for tickets??? I do thank you all for enlightening me on the fact that scalping is legal in the Dakotas. I was not aware of this law, but it seems fitting when compared to some of the other moral inconsistancies in the state ie. no lottery, but charitable??? Gambling. I would like to leave you with one parting note that triggered this topic. I to remember a time (a Minnesota series to boot) that I also was outside in below -0 temeratures looking for tickets and someonehanded me a pair and wanted nothing more than for me to enjoy the game. I know that there are those of you that are still out there.
  3. It is one thing to watch your team have a bad season, but to hope for it is another. I never thought that I would see the day that I would wish for the Sioux to have a poor team, but after looking at the post on the Engelstad ticket site I long for the days when you could hear a pin drop at the Old Engelstad. It was those games that brought out the the real fans (as opposed to the status qou of the Grand Shities!) I am seeing higher ticket prices asked for games then for the Minnesota Wild's first playoff run. It is absolutely ridiculous! Last year I purchased tickets from a Gopher fan for the NCAA tournement at face value! He had mentioned that he appreciates the fan support and following that the Sioux have and was happy to know that the tickets would be put to good use. Meanwhile the fans in the green and white can't wait to bend over their fellow supporters. Wow, outclassed by a rodent! Also, the last time I checked I thought that scalping (not to be associated to a Native American reference) was illegal. Enjoy the tickets for those of you that use them for the good of the team and not for profit and hope that you don't ever have to see the day when the back up plan for the upperdeck is enforced by sealing it off with drop down curtains like left field at the Metrodome. Did you even know that that plan is there? Must be for a reason.
  4. The Dirty Frenchman Games 1 even. Game 2 the Ducks all the way. Game 3 even until half way through the second. Don't take on the North Dakota dream squashing attitude. Anything can happen. A win tonight brings it back home. A win back home could get into the Ducks heads. If we lose what's the worst that could happen. We watched hockey in Minnesota until May and we return the youngest(most experienced squad) to the NHL next year with even more to prove.
  5. I agree lawkota. I have been a fan and resident of Grand Forks for many years. As alumni I feel I should have just as much rights to the arena as current students. This is not high school any more. Past students and supporters are just as big of a contribution to athletics at the college. Again, this is not high school. You don't need to stand the whole game to show what a great supporter you are for your team. I remember many years of fans at the old Ralph that were twice as enthusiastic and oh yea, they were sitting down. As for your boycott. Good more seats available for me when I come back to visit. The atmosphere in the Ralph is not what it could be because of the current product on the ice. I remember many years going to the old Ralph where there were no problems holding conversations with individuals on the other end of the rink. That being said when the team was good the emotions ran in a higher gear. The Sioux need to give their fans in the new rink something to get excited about. Squashing BSU and giving up leads and playing musical goaltenders and........ you get the point. It's just not cutting it. Put the 2000 and 1997 teams in the new rink and I gurantee you will feel the energy. A perfect example of this is with the Wild. I go to about a couple dozen games throughout the year. Enjoyable, good crowds, comfortable environment. Yet the energy felt when we were down 3 games to Colorodo was unmatched by any previous game. I think that fans at the Denver playoff series had there first taste of what a game with a good team could be like.
  6. Why can't they use the old Engelstad areana for BB? If they need additional practice facilities they could build a scaled down version next to the old rink at a fraction of the cost.
  7. If you build it they will come. D-1 never. Juniors has the best marketing potential for the area. If you want a perfect example look at the the USHL team in Sioux Falls.
  8. After hearing from Dean himself after he coached all the overpayed, spoiled, professional national team players several years ago. He wants no part of the professional athelete. All about individuals and not the team. But money does make people listen.
  9. It is nice to see everyone's passion for next season is in full force. I have sinced moved out of the North Dakota area, but will forever bleed green. However, being out of the area I get quite a bit of coverage for all other games and teams in the wcha. This has allowed me to look at things a little more objectively. There were teams that I had talke to my friends in GF about before they had played them and I think that they thought I was nuts (Mankato and Michigan Tech). One consideration. MN, CC, and UND currently have the younger teams in the wcha. The Gophers will be tough, not many years that they are not competitive. CC is usually there as well. So that leaves the question marks. St Cloud has some good players coming in, but the true test will be Montegomery taking over in net for them. He is much better than Moreland, but has just come up short on the win column this season. Someone on this board said UAA an Tech are what they are. UAA yes Michigan Tech no. Will Tech be a force to reckon with, probably not. Are they a team that can steal a win or a final five appearance away from you, absolutley. Denver will be strong as well. Let us not forget that this team was picked to be the best this year and also another team returning most players. Duluth is the Wild Card. Scotty certainly has learned a thing or two about coaching from Deano. Not to mention they easily return the best goalie in the league. Mankato has some steam rolling and always manage to play everyone tough for at least two periods. And for the Sioux. God bless the Fighting Sioux. We will be in there again. I still don't think that next year is their year, but the schedule is a little more accomidating for travel and more respectful for rankings. So they should make it a little further in the tourney. The following year for when the Sioux host the regionals they should be in prime position (home ice) as an experienced team to make a return trip to the Frozen Four.
  10. This was an e-mail my wife received. Whoever said that the Minneapolis mediawas not out to get us. Two boys are playing hockey on a frozen pond in Minneapolis when one is suddenly attacked by a rabid Rottweiler. Thinking quickly, the other boy takes his stick and shoves it under the dog's collar, twists it until the dog stop breathing and saving his friend. A Star Tribune reporter who was strolling by sees the incident. He approaches the boys and congratulates the youth. He tells the young man that he's a reporter and says, "I'm going to have the headline read... "Gopher fan Saves Friend From Vicious Animal," then begins writing in his notebook. "But I'm not a Gopher fan", the little hero replied. "Sorry, thought all Twin Cities kids were" said the reporter and he starts again..."Vikings Fan Rescues Friend From Horrific Attack," he continued writing in his notebook. "I'm not a Vikings fan either," the boy said. "Oh, I assumed everyone in the Twin Cities was either for the Gophers or the Vikings. What team do you root for?" the reporter asked. "I'm a Sioux fan", the child said. The reporter starts a new sheet in his notebook and writes: "Little Bastard from North Dakota Kills Beloved Family Pet."
  11. Timothy Delmore 71-73, Roseau Rams Do I win? Could use two.
  12. Yes I do. Do ou have extra? e mail me at JimmiBeans@aol.com
  13. If you here any of the reaction of Cornell's coach he feels the same way. My prediction is that Cornell comes out with a quick couple of goals right away. That is when Mankato has you. They lull you into a false sense of confidence. The next thing you know, your team is trailing by two goals at the end of the third period trying to figure out what the hell happened.

    Tickets

I checked on availability of tickets on gophersports.com, but could only find single seats. Does anyone know if the participating schools will release any tickets or any other options for seeing the game?
  15. I will be the first to admit that I am a homer and would love nothing more than to see Parise win the award (of which he stands a great chance). I have to be the devils advocate hear and bring up a point that you are all failing to address, but will face come Thursday. Isaac Reichmuth the goalie for Duluth is one of the hottest freshmen goalies not only in the league, but in the NCAA. He has a solid GAA and which is impressive considering that only Michigan Tech's Goalie had more saves this year. I think when you look at a ROY you have to not only look at how they performed statistically, but how instrumentally they were in their teams accomplishments. The only good news for us Sioux fans is that this Duluth will live and die by this kid's performance.
  16. Speaking of hair. Did anyone see the kid in the Minnesota high School Tourney from St Louis Park that they called Afro Thunder. 6'5" and could be spotted by th trail of bodies in his wake. I think his name was Olgie Olglethorpe.
  17. Yellowsnow must have forgot that it took a kid from North Dakota to bring home a Gopher title.
  18. Not sure of exact address, but head down the road that Reid's is on (away from the X) and it is probably the last building on the right. I hope that helps.
  19. I agree. A true fan will say their team will win it all. However, this team could win every game from here on or lose every game. They are good enough to beat any team in the NCAA. I think the series last weekend will take its toll on the boys this weekend. No sweat. We'll save it for the Frozen Four and leave the Final Five championships for teams like St Cloud. It seems to be the only thing they can win (St CLouds Final Five award will be accepted on behalf of Minnesota-Mankato).
  20. Tom Reids is one idea. However the place is a madhouse when nothing is going on, let alone when there is something going on at the X. Plus there is too much Gopher crap on the walls. Mancini's Char house is farther up the road. Big place, big bar, great steaks. Plus they have a free shuttle to the game so you can save yourself $10-$20 on parking.
