  1. Looks to be a barn burner of a weekend. Racehorse hockey is always fun to watch. Looking for a SiouxWEEP!!!! GO SIOUX!!!
  2. I was thinking Guentzel would be hopping up and down yelling "pick me, pick me, get me outta here." But, maybe Jutting's replacement in 'Kato would be better to lead Jutting into the next era at UNO. Hmm...wait...doubt Jutting would sit for that. Well....maybe they would take Hastings anyway.
  3. We'll find that out in a couple of years. Jutting or Guentzel,,.that's the only question.
  4. Very sad to hear that. As you said, he left it on the ice every shift. He played each game like he hadn't made the team yet. Great memories. Condolences to the Dub family.
  5. I wouldn't say the goaltending was poorer, but I get what you mean. The equipment was different (smaller pads and trapper). Goalies themselves were also generally smaller (the 6'3 goalies weren't common). As a result, there was more open net to defend (and shoot at) and scoring was a little easier. Though now you can make the argument that composite sticks give shooters an advantage they didn't have back in the eighties, but I think the open net area argument holds better. And yeah, for as many goals as Hrkac had, he was THE setup man laying that biscuit on the stick of Bob Joyce just moments before it was in the net. Those two were fun to watch together.
  6. Agreed that the Taylor, Smail, Sykes line in 79-80 was a dangerous line. Doug Smail was the fastest skater in the NCAA and could bury a breakway.
  7. The gophers are done unless they win the autobid. I can't see how they can now sweep out their B1G schedule and come in above 16th.
  8. Cam has the longest scoreless streak at UND in 62 years. Second longest all time. :-) So...that makes this the best goaltending most of us have ever seen in a UND sweater. Just sayin'.
  9. Did NOT AT ALL expect that. Cam is playing solid right now...that puck looks like a beach ball and the net is the size of a minnow scoop. I'm just enjoying it while it's here. The first half of this season has been absolutely FUN to watch. Let's welcome Alabama Huntsville to town with another pair of goose eggs. :-) Way to go SIOUX!!!
  10. Sandelin wants to win, whatever it takes. His teams won't spear, but there's not much else that's off the menu.
  11. That is a fickle crowd, for sure. Some nights that arena fills up, other nights you think it's a DIII school arena. The students are usually a pretty rowdy crowd, and the band does a decent job. I was surprised at the ice last night. It looked as soft as a slushie. I could almost see Scotty having his team practice on soft ice all week just to take a visiting team off their game on Friday night. Hope to see a faster game tonight. For a while last night our blueliners were clicking and keeping UMD out of our zone entirely, but the Dogs found a way through after a few minutes and started getting shots again. All forwards and blue liners blocked a ton of shots last night. Really gives Cam a reason to stay calm and play big. Looking for the sweep tonight! GO SIOUX!!!
  12. Three more huge points on the line tonight, up for grabs. Sixty minutes of 100% effort ought to get it done. GO SIOUX!!!
  13. I have to say, I was concerned when Cam came back in for Hrynkiw. I am no longer concerned. Who's Tomek? :-o
  14. I foresee a hard fought battle tonight, with the Sioux taking the wind out of UMD's sails in the third. 4-3 men in Green. Tonight the flood gates open. 5-1 Sioux. Siouxweep!!!
  15. I have sat near a similar crew at the DECC a couple times. Need some chlorine in that gene pool.
  16. Six more HUGE conference points just sitting there in Duluth for the taking. Can't wait to see this team go out there and take them. 120 minutes away. GO SIOUX!!!
  17. The goalies have been standing their ground, for sure. That said, this team has "bought in" and is blocking a LOT of shots in front of those goalies. The shot blocking and defense (a group of studs) are HUGE reasons that the netminders have had a good record. Back to my opening lead though, the times when goalies have had to be solid, they have been solid for the most part. Wisco friday night and JBSU saturday night are the lone two exceptions.
  18. Maybe that one week, mid summer 1981 before Chelios changed his mind and they had James Patrick already coming in. I think Ludwig and Zombo were also on the blue line. And that Whitsitt guy...but no, Chelios decided that Wisco was the place to be. (and it didn't matter).
  19. Really great series by the guys on home ice. Impressive display, really. By old school WCHA playoff rules, we just won a 2 game, total goal series against DU 9-1. That's impressive. Cam is POG. POGs has to be runner up. :-) Bring on Duluth! Pucker up Kaskisuo! GO SIOUX!!!!
  20. They always show it tape delayed, right at the end of the broadcast. Sadly. It's a big deal for the players...I'd like to see the TV crews put it where it belongs. Live.
  21. Wow, Boeser has some hands. I've been waiting for a sniper like that for years. Crazy good shot. Three solid points against a good DU team. They will show up tomorrow, plus a leading scorer, so we need to come ready to play. Congrats to Pogo for tipping one in...it's good to see his efforts pay off. And that's the way it is. CBS.
  22. Classless hockey, to be sure. Surprising to me that St.Cloud didn't empty the bench after that. A hit like that often draws a stronger reaction from ones teammates. Either Motzko has his team extremely well disciplined, or they don't have that team spirit in St Cloud (by the looks of it).
