Dammit, not a good start.
-
Yeah, we don't have that luxury anymore.
-
Almost have to win. If we can win the next 4 games it SHOULD be enough to get into the tournament even if we lose the Thursday game at the X, but if we lose a game either this weekend or one of the first round series games it will force the Sioux to win 1 or 2 games at the X...would be nice to avoid that pressure.
-
Agree with all that, 2 wins should put us at no worse than 13 in PWR which is where we need to be. Let's go boys!!!

That's what I wondered, I don't see his name anywhere but wondered if he was pushing the buttons on one or both proposals. Really got a hard-on for the SBHE doesn't he?
-
Honestly I don't think the Big Skys decision will be based as much on whether they think the name is racist as it will on what the name will mean from a business and image standpoint. I don't get the feeling that many, if any, of the universities involved feel that UNDs use of the Fighting Sioux nickname is a big deal in itself, but the scheduling problems UND is going to face, the loss of all home playoff games, the ability to recruit and be competitive, and the perception that UND will be a 'black-mark' school because of the nickname is probably going to make admittance into the BSC an iffy deal. But really, on the list of people/organizations to point fingers at over this issue, the BSC is way down the list. They have been duped more than once since inviting UND/USD and I can't blame them for being very cautious as this crawls toward a conclusion.

Are these proposals both being fueled by the nickname issue? Just curious.
-
Can you imagine if we had someone get a big suspension now as shorthanded as we are? Fine line between being an enforcer and a goon...this guy looks like he's leaning toward the latter.
-
Are you sure about that? He said it would take a unanimous vote to remove an existing full member from the league, but didn't exactly say what it would take to remove a probationary member. It's possible that it is the same, but usually the term probationary means the governing body has left a window to renig for whatever reason they see fit. Either way, Fullerton has stated numerous times that a unanimous vote of the presidents would be a foregone conclusion...the ones who didn't care one way or another would vote with the ones who are against allowing admittance, and I don't see any reason to doubt it. It would be foolish for us to think he hasn't spent quite a bit of time the last few months talking to all the presidents about this situation.

I would equate your "small temporary sanctions" to this...
-
You would have to assume, if true, that would be the primary reason for looking past UND towards someone the caliber of Denver. Minnesota and Wisconsin aren't going to leave holes in their schedules for very long waiting to see how the nickname issue finally settles out. Even though it's not official I hate seeing this in print because deals like these could be made now even though the nickname issue could be settled later this year with the nickname being retired, but with UM and Bucky already having deals in place and UND getting shut out anyway. That would be a lose/lose deal for us.

At least Gophers is already taken thank God.

Well, this is where we thought they would be the last 4 weeks or so, needing a sweep over the Cows to keep on pace, just need to take care of business and not look ahead. They've played pretty decent the last couple weeks, won twice at Anchorage which isn't easy and played Duluth tough last weekend, can't take these guys for granted.
-
The first year was the best without a doubt. Hextall did a good job keeping things amusing the last 2 years, but unless someone with a big personality steps forward we might have seen the last of it.
-
Bad guidance. Kid was set to go to BC, wasn't like he was the last guy in the door at Anchorage or somewhere comparable. Might make others think before following his footsteps.

IF Standing Rocks leaders would suddenly decide to let a vote of their people decide their stance and IF that vote came back with 95% of enrolled members favoring UND keeping the name and IF the NCAA then agreed to let Standing Rock present their results and make a case for the nickname...then...the NCAA would probably not budge anyway. I just can't see them revisiting a battle they have already won unless they are forced to legally.
-
What exactly is anyone supposed to comment on? That most of Spirit Lake wants to allow UND to allow the Sioux name? That Standing Rock doesn't and is unwilling to even try? That Davidson is a nickname supporter who goes the extra mile? Is there something else? Everybody here knows all that and almost everybody on both sides of the nickname issue would love to see Spirit Lake bring the NCAA to court and take them down on this issue, but that is a looooooooong way from happening, if ever, and UND cannot endure 5 or more years of crippling sanctions on the remote chance that they will be successful.

5. Quit taking stupid f'ing penalties. Especially retaliation penalties and penalties during stoppages in play. We're not that great on the PK right now.
-
^^^ That would be a good draw for us, I would feel better playing CC in the Thursday game than Denver again so soon.

I like their chances.

According to Jim that's how it's been the last 3 or 4 weeks, if we win 3 of the last 4 and our opening round series we're good.
-
We just needed to maintain this weekend, now sweep Mankato, then win our first home series in the playoffs and we should be OK regardless of what happens at the X.
-
"Played smart" is not how this weekend will be described.
