  2. I told my wife that I wouldn't start with the Frattin for Hobey campaign until he hit 20 goals. Well, we're here. You may have heard me at the rink tonight. Before this season started, I thought the Hobey possibilities for the Green and White were: Chay Genoway Brad Eidsness Jason Gregoire And now I think we've got: Matt Frattin Aaron Dell Chay Genoway It's rare to have multiple finalists from one school, as many schools choose to heavily promote one player instead of plugging several, but I really think Frattin and Dell have a shot at cracking the top ten. What helps them both is the combination of UND's strength of schedule, overall record, and national profile. I think either Andy Miele or Carter Camper (both from Miami) will make it, along with Jack Connolly and/or Justin Fontaine (Minnesota-Duluth). Broc Little (Yale) is easily in, and I think there's a spot for Cam Atkinson (Boston College). Allen York (Rensselaer) is probably the Eastern candidate between the pipes. In a soft year for defensemen, Justin Schultz (Wisconsin) has a shot, but a lean year on the blue line also helps Chay Genoway, in my opinion. Other forwards with an outside chance would be T.J. Tynan (Notre Dame), Paul Thompson (New Hampshire), and Craig Smith (Wisconsin). Dell will have to pass Scott Gudmanson (Wisconsin) to get the Western Hobey nod to netminders. I'd like to hear who's on your radar, both at UND, throughout the WCHA, and across the college hockey landscape. Dave
  3. With the two games at UND, Robert Morris has moved out of the cellar and now boasts just the SECOND weakest schedule in the country (according to KRACH). Army now occupies the cellar. North Dakota's strength of schedule took a hit, but the Fighting Sioux still claim the toughest schedule in the nation (Anchorage and Denver are within striking distance). Too bad we'll take another hit playing the Gophers next weekend. Dave
  4. Thanks for the catch; got it corrected. Go Sioux! Dave

  6. I agree, I wasn't suggesting that we would have a new nickname by next year. However, since the process will begin sometime next year, I think it's important to frame the discussion around the various factors (colors, gender equity, marketing, uniqueness, etc.) that will be in play. I understand the sentiment of "Fighting Sioux forever, they'll never get me to take off my jersey", but the fact remains that the University of North Dakota will be called something else, and I think that all of the possible "something elses" should be compared with each other, and not (unfairly) compared to the name Fighting Sioux. Dave
  7. From my (updated) blog post: I have no problem with North Dakota being the fourth team in the nation (and first in our region) to be called the Pilots, given that the name fares so strongly in every other area. Dave
  8. I started a new thread so I could add a poll and direct users to a blog post on this specific topic. Dave
  9. For your consideration: The University of North Dakota Pilots Discuss. Dave
  10. Step One: Cut a hole in a box Two....
  11. And Dell leads the WCHA in goals-against average (in conference play). The only goalie in the league under 2 goals per game. Dave
  12. From my weekend preview: The Prediction: If North Dakota were healthy, I would pick a sweep. If North Dakota were at home, I would pick a sweep. The Fighting Sioux are banged up and on the road, and I

  16. Just to clarify, I think he's 20% to go after this season. We won't see him after his sophomore year (barring injury). Dave
  17. Maybe this shouldn't be in SIOUX @ MSU, but I'll bite anyway... Before Gregoire went out, I had the early departure percentages as follows: Gregoire (currently a junior): 40% Blood (junior): 30% Eidsness (junior): <5% MacWiliiam (sophomore): 20% Kristo (sophomore): <5% Forbort (freshman): 20% Gregoire's injury certainly diminishes the chance that he'd give up his final year of eligibility, but it's still a possibility. Anyone else I'm missing? Any thoughts? Dave
