  1. I agree with ESPNInsider on this one, folks. I will always love the University of North Dakota, regardless of what the nickname is today or one hundred years from now. However, I do see certain points of view, particularly with Sioux-venirs, H-Sioux-Oh, Sioux-per Shoot-outs, and Sioux-perDogs. It would appear that some on this board want to stuff the Constitution down the throats of people and say "in your face...we can call the team the 'Sioux.' I hardly think that that solution benefits everyone and it certainly would give rise to more groups wanting to 86 the nickname. President Kupchella and others need to ignore people like GrahamKracker and others like him who will NEVER be convinced that the nickname is ok and focus their efforts on convincing those in middle-ground that there are good reasons why it should stay and good that can come BECAUSE of the nickname. Right, wrong, good, bad, or indifferent, if the established tribes in North Dakota took an actual democratic vote amongst their people and the end results were 90% enrolled members voting and 80% opposed to the nickname, you wouldn't think "hmnnn...maybe we need to think about this...?" I would.
  2. Why not? It's not like groups don't exist ignoring other amendments (the right of the people to keep and bear arms comes to mind), right?
  3. Supposedly they DO stand up for First Amendment protections and rights. Unless, of course, they don't agree with it...
  4. Or the Democratic Party holding a panel on positive accomplishments during the Bush administration?
  5. Would you seriously have ridden with him, HockeyMom?
  6. Nope. Edmonton scored 43 touchdowns, but had an extra point blocked and run back for a two-point conversion by the Bison.
  7. You don't call yourself ESPNInsider for nothing, do you?
  8. I thought I remembered him more recently than that. I rarely remember sideline reporters, but he often had valuable insight. The name helped too.
  9. In a related news story, the Edmonton Eskimos defeated the NDSU Bison today 300-5.
  10. When did he last work for ESPN?
  11. Wow!
  12. Jessica may be pretty to look at and all, but I believe it's what's in a woman's head and heart that really counts.
  13. Personally, I think it's far funnier watching Lee Corso say something like this: "Not so fast my friend...I look for Temple to pull off the BIG UPSET against Tennessee today. The Volunteers are ripe for the picking." Fast-forward to the 6:00 pm Sportscenter where they are showing highlights of The Vols' 70-3 victory over the Owls... In one game last year, he donned the mascot hat of the LSU Tigers at the end of College GameDay and Chris Fowler busted out in laughter because the Georgia fans behind him were all high-fiving and going nuts because they obviously felt better about Lee picking against them.
  14. Your statistic is a bit misleading, GrahamKracker. Comptom Demographics Borrowing from the link attached above..."The racial makeup of the city is 40.31% Black or African American, 16.71% White, 0.70% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 1.05% Pacific Islander, 37.34% from other races, and 3.62% from two or more races. 56.84% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race." I didn't realize that the government of Ireland (did you include those from Northern Ireland?) has exclusive rights to the words "Fighting Irish". Thanks for filling me in. Now, since my nickname for years has been "GrahamKracker," I am going to ask you to change your moniker on this site as I am complaining about its unauthorized use.
  15. I wasn't Trev Alberts' biggest fan, particularly when his big game of the week seemed to always involve Nebraska, but it was fun watching the banter back and forth with Mark May.
  16. I love how the Commission urges non-Native colleges to "retire" such imagery, yet KnowtheFacts and GrahamKracker can't answer one simple question: If it's racist for the U of North Dakota to use it, why is it acceptable for American Indian schools to use names like Warriors, Chiefs, Sioux, and Indians? I've got spare time...feel free to give me an answer.
  17. GK, I still have one question for you. Why would Warriors, Sioux, or Indians be ok names for schools made up predominantly of American Indians while it is considered racist for an institution like North Dakota?
