Well, I just hope that the Magness Arena staff doesn’t arrange North Dakota’s warm-up pucks in the shape of an ‘L’ before the start of tonight’s game...
Hasn’t every game since the opening series loss and tie with Bemidji State been “win or bust?” I know some folks think this team has less luck than Clark W. Griswold in Las Vegas, but this team is who it has been since losing 2-1 to the Beavers.
Your two favorite random assumptions:
1) Hakstol would have never won a national title. No reason why not, just because he is cursed or has never won a title at any level.
2) We’re all OK with a string of down years as long as a natty comes around once a decade — as if that natty is guaranteed to happen.
Plenty of folks on this board railed on Hakstol for not winning the big one and said that some down years were just fine if they could just win a national title once a decade or so. Well, be careful what you wish for, because it sure looks like we’re in for a nosedive...
Maybe is one word, but I digress...maybe Denver comes in a little ticked off and smokes a tired North Dakota team, who, by the looks of it, might not arrive in Denver until five minutes before face-off on Friday night!

Didn’t like my comment, eh? So, which “couple” of the next three opponents do you feel North Dakota will sweep then? St. Cloud State is obviously now off the table.
@ Denver? @ Western Michigan? vs Duluth?
Boy, all the whining about officiating is really something! I’m old enough to remember fans being thrilled to leave bad WCHA officiating in the dust when the NCHC was formed! What happened?
My recollection is that when the shoe was on the other foot about character issues, we wanted the past left in the past and felt Matt Frattin deserved the Hobey Baker Trophy.
That’s not quite how it works...
Losses to #30 (Colorado College), #34 (Bemidji State), #44 (Omaha) and #52 (Canisius College TWICE) pretty much ruin everything positive about beating the #1 team at home once.
