There probably is, but it doesn't matter because if they went back to Warriors the NCAA would force them to change it or make Warriors non Indian associated like the NBA's Golden State Warriors.

UND could have had an old nickname (Nodaks) but chose a generic, overused name Fighting Hawks. Those bitching about the name had a chance to pick something else, but didn’t. The name is final, there is no going back, and the only thing that may change is the possibility of a secondary logo mimicking the mascot.

No other school that changed their name plays in an arena with the old logo all over the place so of course they got over it. Imagine if the NCAA sandblasted all the Sioux logos off the REA, and replaced it with Hawk logos like the Alerus and IPF, I think that divison in the fanbase would be less.

Funny how recruits from football has accepted the new name but recruits for hockey have to bow down to the Sioux forever hockey fans. He can tweet Fighting Sioux, call it Fighting Sioux hockey all he wants but if they win anything that requires a banner being hung, it will be a Hawk on that banner not a Sioux logo. That’s over, no more Sioux logos will be hung in that or any venue on campus. That’s called reality.

So with no nickname fans would wear the interlocking ND proudly and chant go Big Green.

I like the Hawk Mascot as a logo, maybe a secondary logo down the road.

It will be really funny seeing that guy hauled off in handcuffs for assault, banned from the arena, plus seeing little Johnny in tears because some asshat thunder punched his new friend. Yep, shows how mature some people are, or in this case aren’t.

I didn’t know that everyone who commented was the voting pool. I was on there but didn’t comment as I’m sure many others didn’t as not to start a bickering war which always happens and ends up in personal attacks and blocking people, so I think your percentage is a little off. But whatever floats your boat.

I was at my daughters soccer game on Saturday in Moorhead and saw a bunch of FH gear throughout the field, with one guy with a Fighting Sioux blanket but even he had a FH jacket on. As time goes on more and more FH gear will be out there keep in mind the logo is only 2 years old. I also would like free gear, the only free stuff I have seen was a FH t-shirt in 2016 with the schedule printed on the back with the logo on the front along with a Hawkerchief at the Potato Bowl game.

Everyone knows the only name everyone was going to get behind was the Fighting Sioux. So don’t kid yourself in thinking there is a better name that would “bridge” everyone together.

Since there was a settlement with a timeline for approval, wouldn’t the legality of bringing back the Sioux name be in question even 35 years from now?

Are people more pissed that the Sioux name or no nickname is never coming back, or the fact that more and more fans are liking the current name and logo and will enjoy the new mascot.

I never said the mascot would bridge the gap. Time will bridge the gap. Just look on the UND Facebook page there are tons of Fighting Sioux forever comments, that won’t change but maybe in the next 5-10 years it could. Just look at GF Central, no Redskins chants, no Redskins forever on social media. They have a mascot too.

Just like the interlocking ND logo, because similar is horrible.

Because this new reality of UND being the Fighting HAWKS with a mascot is finally sinking in that the imaginary chance of being the Fighting Sioux or no nickname at all is fading faster and faster.

I doubt that. To most of them it’s the Sioux name and logo or nothing.

That bottom pic looks pretty cool. With Dakota in our name you would think Indians would have no problem with that....oh wait our school is not on a reservation so it’s bad.
