That's not exactly how it works. In fact, I believe Carson will be under even more scrutiny in the scouting process due to the "disadvantage" of coming from an FCS school. People will view him with a much more skeptic eye and if after that additional scrutiny he still gets drafted where he is currently projected, it will be that much more impressive to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't looked it up. But has an FCS player ever been drafted in the top 10?

Scouts have specifically mentioned carsons ability to look off safeties. In fact they said it again during the senior bowl on the completion up the seam to the Ohio state TE. As for the rest of your critique, those apply to every player moving into the NFL so I'm not sure how that is a valid discussion point on specifically why he wouldn't be effective in the NFL.

Overrated as to who the really talented players are at the next level? Agreed. Overrated in regards to who GM's and player personnel guys will draft in higher positions? Disagree. The NFL is notorious for latching onto players who look the part and have the athletic measurables to fit the mold. Performing well at both is definitely going to help anyone's draft stock. Agreed on the Vikings, it seems they may finally have a player personnel team and coaches over there who can properly evaluate talent. The last two drafts have impressed the hell out of me.

I'm certainly not asking anyone to be a wentz cheerleader, just don't allow your ndsu hatred to lead you to say ridiculous things like "he will be decimated at the next level", "this is the most overrated QB class in a decade". I realize you didn't specifically say either of those, but you and others aligned yourself with that side of the argument. Both of those things could turn out to be true, but there is literally no evidence to support such a stance.

Many on this board deride bison fans for acting a certain way towards anything UND related. I've even heard directly and indirectly on this board that UND fans are somehow above the fray in regards to these types of discussions. Isn't it interesting that you are eluding to the fact that you aren't objectively assessing wentz, but rather saying "turnabout is fair play". It seems when the shoe is on the other foot it's ok to be specifically bias toward ndsu, but it wasn't ok when ndsu fans were doing it? Sounds a bit hypocritical to me.

What are Carson's weaknesses that you feel will have him "decimated" at the next level?
-
6/10 for 50 yards with 2 blatant drops and another miscommunication with a receiver on a 4th down.(only the coaches and players know who botched the assignment). Made an "NFL arm" throw, across the field and showed elusiveness in the pocket. As I watched the game on dvr last night I actually thought he looked better than I expected him to. many disadvantages for Carson in a game like that. 1.It's an all star game, notorious for players not being on the same page. There isn't a position on the field that requires more cohesiveness amongst the team to appear to be playing well yourself. 2. First experience with that level of talent. A learning curve could have been expected even if he ends up being a top 10 pick. 3. Limited reps in the game. Even in a normal game it can take players time to settle into a rhythm. All things considered, IMO Carson had a great game and showed exactly what he needed to show to make millions of dollars in the spring.

Why would NDSU even consider the Sun Belt or vice versa? The closest schools are in Arkansas.
-
Any NDSU fan who would think NDSU has anything more than a puncher's chance in a game against Alabama is either grossly under-informed or joking.
-
I couldn't agree more, I believe I have the proper perspective about what FCS is and what it isn't. But some one this board are always so quick to be sure to put things "in perspective", it makes it difficult to not see that as attempting to belittle the subdivision altogether.
-
Is your goal to downplay NDSU's accomplishments as insignificant in the grand scheme or simply to say FCS football doesn't matter? If it's the latter, I would ask why you are so quick to downplay a subdivision in which UND is hoping to gain notoriety.
-
Glad you spent the time to make an account for this contribution. It was definitely worth your time. BTW love the name, you can call me the dude, or el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

What is your point? NDSU has idiots, plenty of them. So do other fan bases, not exactly a revelation. The difference is, you see NDSU fans acting out on the news because it sells papers and gets clicks because people know the NDSU name now. I was at highschool game a few years back where a guy was literally beaten by a group of fans from the other team. No news story. Why?
-
Why weren't they talking about them before the last few years?
-
My point is NDSU is in a position to be under the microscope. Plenty of other fanbases have idiots, some even more so than NDSU in my experience, but who is talking about them? Nobody talks about Minnesota Twins fans, or Cleveland Browns fans. They talk about Yankees fans and Patriots fans being arrogant and insufferable, NDSU finds themselves in this same position.
-
A lot of guys who have never choked have never been in the position to do so. Tom Watson
-
Oh good, then we agree, thanks for the snarky response.
-
Every fanbase wants to think they are above having idiots in their ranks, but no group is immune, UND fans included. NDSU just has a lot of "newer" fans who don't know how to be humble since the last 6 years is all they know. All us old Bison fans are just as embarrassed and annoyed when we hear sioux chants at games that don't involve UND.
-
meh...people have their own reason for doing things, doesn't necessarily say anything to me about where the fanbases' head is at. Maybe his brother or his best buddy is a sioux fan and he wanted to make a statement, who knows.
-
You're arbitrarily defining what letting it go means to make UND come out as the good guy.
-
Exactly. It was strategic with a little bit of "stick it to the a holes that screwed us" mixed in. Right or wrong, agree or disagree. To suggest fear played a role is so far beyond absurd, it's hilarious.
-
Ohio State just signed a home and home with Oregon, but keeps dodging NDSU. I'm sure they're scared of NDSU.
-
That's bulletproof logic there. I heard NDSU called Ohio State for a game in Fargo and they wouldn't schedule it. I'm sure Urban Meyer was scared.
-
You can't possibly think NDSU is scared to play in Grand Forks do you? The reason NDSU didn't schedule a game to play in Grand Forks has been discussed by many for years, whether you agree with their reasoning or not, saying they are scared just makes you sound like a petulent child.
-
I have no doubt all of that is true. It doesn't, however, play a role in which sport is more popular, which is the discussion.
