  1. I know exactly why they did it. Doesn’t matter, in fact that makes it worse, they told a bold faced lie. So they flat out lied to us and you think they have our best interests in mind? Whose to say they aren’t giving us more BS half truths in July that will later be justified by “we know what’s best for you”
  2. This is the tone I can’t get on board with. Name calling and judgement. Four months ago, the “most knowledgeable person on the planet” on this subject told people not to wear masks, not four years ago, not four decades ago, four months. Now that advice has changed, but could change back at any moment it seems given the consistency of the message we get from our medical community. If you want to be upset with someone, and call anyone buffoons, be upset with the “experts” for their lack of a consistent message, not at the people who are fed up with a government that consistently lies to them and changes “facts” depending on which way the political winds are blowing.
  3. Certainly seems like it, that’s for sure.
  4. I guess we’ll have to inform the surgeon general he wasn’t a true medical professional until June 2020. Even Fauci somehow wasn’t a true medical professional until very recently it seems.
  5. We are coming at this from positions that will likely never see eye to eye. You seem to trust the government has your best interests in mind, which is surprising given who the current president is and your stated opinion of his politics. I simply do not trust the government, I don’t see them as even in the top 15% of most intelligent and effective people in our society.
  6. The price tag on that would be unimaginable on top of what we’ve already done. Macroeconomics is not a strong point of mine, but I do know that all these bailouts are going to have significant long term consequences on our country. wouldnt it have been easier to let business stay open and let the people who are scared or vulnerable make the decision for themselves? Why must the government be involved so much, people can make their own decisions about which businesses they’d like to patronize.
  7. I had four friends file bankruptcy in June due to their gyms being forced closed.
  8. I think for most people objecting to the mask has nothing to do with the mask. It has to do with opening the door to the next “new normal”. We’ve already been lied to so many times during this pandemic that it isn’t hard to understand why there is a lack of trust when a public policy maker says “just trust us, this is only until the numbers come down” sounds eerily similar to “trust us and close your business so we can flatten the curve” which quickly became “trust us just stay closed longer, it’s worth it if it saves one life”. If somehow, it’s impossible, citizens could be absolutely guaranteed that the mask mandate doesn’t turn into something even more demanding or infringing, most people would be ok with it. But it’s the fear of what next when you start down this road that has most people drawing this line in the sand early. I for one, completely understand that mentality.
  9. So when will the mask mandate end?
  10. Fair argument. Where is the line in your mind then? And who is deciding what measures are taken? Edit: I think it fair to note that many people fight for their right to dress or not dress the way they feel is appropriate. Minneapolis is currently in a fight with many women who feel they should be able to be topless in public.
  11. Covering sexual organs in a civilized society seems to be a good thing as to not expose minors to such things. I can’t speak to the specific history of why modesty is written into our laws.
  12. I also have looked at what the experts are saying and there seems to now be consensus(up until recently it wasn’t so clear) and wearing a mask is a choice I’ll make for myself, but I also believe that each person is free in this country to make their own decisions. That is where we seem to differ. I’ll do what I need to do to protect myself and my family and everyone else can do the same as far as I’m concerned.
  13. Why is that relevant? If one life can be saved...isn’t that what we’re being told? shut down your business and go bankrupt if it’ll save one life. pull your kids out of school and set them back irreversibly if it’ll save one life. can’t or won’t do the above? You’re selfish and only think about yourself and money.
  14. Well if you didn’t mean it as racist, you certainly assumed a gender and didn’t properly ask for their preferred pronouns. Your transphobia is showing.
  15. March. When did we deem other infectious diseases that have had the ability to kill and also spread via respiratory droplets inert?
  16. Did you wear a mask before March?
  17. Boy? Not very woke of you pal. Don’t you know that the left has deemed that word racist?
  18. Antifa is made up? What color is the sky where you live?
  19. Literally not one word I said has anything to do with the president’s opinion of the group. Simple observation of their actions and tactics will show you what they are about. They brutally beat people who disagree with them, the definition of fascism.
  20. I’m not surprised that simple logic seems insane to you.
  21. I’m not sure how, but the point I was making completely missed you. its hypocritical for a group to be named “Antifa”(anti fascism) and then practice literal fascism in the streets.
  22. It’s so surprising that news outlets aren’t keeping a yearly counter of deaths for that to make sure people are aware of how in danger they are.
  23. Hypocrisy isn’t exclusive to either side of the aisle. Look no further than Antifa being named anti-fascism while beating people that disagree with them.
  24. Through all of the political discussions I've had on this board and in my personal life, the one thing that comes through always is how different we are in different areas of the country. For me, that always highlights the need for the federal government to continue to reduce in power and to give more choice to the individual states. Does it surprise anyone that someone who lives in Manhattan or Downtown San Francisco would be for gun control, while a person living in rural North Dakota would want to have access to weapons? And both of them are probably correct in their thinking as it pertains to their personal situation. Different areas require different lifestyles and have different needs from their local and federal government. I often wonder if the United States will at some point become more similar to Europe with the states becoming separate countries, with some sort of United Nations-esque agreements. Seems like we might be headed that direction.
  25. Actually the ACA did require you to be insured or be fined(that penalty was later repealed I believe) Healthcare is an interesting subject, as someone involved in healthcare, I see being able to see a doctor is a human right and see the value of "socialized medicine". On the other hand, from a financial and ethical standpoint, I see major challenges when the state is in charge of your plan.(dictating what care you can and cannot receive, mandating one treatment over another, barring individuals from public places if they aren't in compliance etc) As it stands, we have the worst possible system, we aren't fully free market and we aren't fully socialized. I think a commitment in either direction would be a major improvement over what we currently have.
