  1. Disagree that Fargo is growing and will continue to grow based on all projections making Fargo a more desirable TV market in the future than it currently is.
  2. We are specifically talking about NDSU here. If you'd like to talk about a different FCS team and the potential they have to move up to FBS feel free to bring up a specific team. Absent another team to discuss, I brought up the assets NDSU has in regards to a move up. Objectively, the fargo area is booming with growth, others have said as much on this thread. Which part of that do you disagree with?
  3. Thank you for that valuable input. Markets do change however. Population growth in Fargo could make it a much more attractive TV market in 20 years.
  4. True
  5. Have you even read any of my comments. Start there.
  6. You lack an understanding of how time can change things. The landscape today will look nothing like what it will look like in 20 years.
  7. The interest in an 8-12 team tournament would be so high. I would absolutely love to see an AAC/MAC/MW champion line up against a 2nd or 3rd best team from a P5 in that first round.
  8. I don’t disagree with any of that.
  9. I’m a realistic guy too and I would fully expect Georgia and Alabama to dominate most every team in the country this year. Would they? You’d have to play the game. If I had money on it of course I’m picking those two teams all day. But that’s not the point. The point is, upsets happen, they are called upsets because you don’t expect them to happen. Anybody can beat anybody, that’s why the game is played.
  10. Ya da ya da yada? Why even watch sports if there isn’t drama and surprises, the whole point of watching is you don’t know how things will play out isn’t it? I’m amazed at how cynical some here are about the possibility of upsets. For me they are the main thing that makes sports worth watching. If we knew for sure who would win a game before it starts, that would be a pretty boring game.
  11. They’ve never had the opportunity either. Can’t happen under the current structure. On paper, Georgia and Alabama would dominate Houston or Utah or Boise St. But any given Saturday as they say.
  12. These exact conversation were had as NDSU transitioned to DI if you’re old enough to remember. See my post above, G5 first then P5 is the scenario I laid out. So I agree with you. The landscape is ever changing, a lot can happen over the course of a couple of decades.
  13. https://sports.betmgm.com/en/blog/10-biggest-college-football-point-spread-upsets-2021/ This is just from this year. Going into these games, nobody would’ve given any of them a legit shot.
  14. I’m not sure what you mean exactly by a legit shot. We’re talking about winning a single football game against a team that on paper should trounce you. That happens every other weekend in college football.
  15. Well, the landscape would have to shift immensely for any P5 conference to consider NDSU. As it currently stands, the most likely path to a P5 conference would be through a G5 conference. So, let’s say the MAC takes a flyer and invites NDSU. Not ideal, but maybe a means to an end if NDSU leadership believes FBS football is where they want to be. Spend 10-15 years establishing yourself athletically and academically and growing the university. Fargo continues to grow and maybe in 20 years the population and market is at a level that is more attractive to the big boys. If all that happens, it seems as though the Big 12 would probably be the best fit, albeit, still a tough sell given NDSU’s location. Who knows what can happen. If someone would have told you 20 years ago that NDSU would dominate FCS football the way they have, make four trips to the NCAA tournament in basketball even get a couple of wins while in it, we’d have all thought that was insane. A lot can change over many years.
  16. You asked me a question that made no sense based on my comment. Thin skin? You didn’t say anything that could’ve offended me so I don’t really understand your meaning.
  17. No FBS game this year. Our strength of schedule was pretty low with Albany and Valpo OOC this year.
  18. What do the words hope and eventually mean where you’re from?
  19. I think you’ve outlined pretty well the massive challenges associated with a move up to FBS and the reasons why NDSU may never make the move. Though I hope they do, even if we have to suffer for years in a G5 conference, all the while hoping to become attractive enough for a P5 conference eventually.
  20. Provocateur would be a more accurate description of how I view every sports analyst/commentator.
  21. And you don’t see a connection between his Twitter page and his brand/image? This is how social media works. Who’s simple minded now? He’s generating interest, he’s being provocative, he’s driving conversations, he’s riling up “haters” and probably gaining Twitter followers. Why do you think people in his position would even take the time to tweet if they weren’t furthering that goal.
  22. Welcome to journalism in 2022. Clicks and views, nothing more.
  23. You may be right, but per my post above, what would you write about if you’re in his position? Gotta be tough. Hypothetical FBS scenarios clearly is something driving readership. Here we are discussing it right? Looks like Dom did his job well to me.
  24. I’ll take simple, the world is full of fools complicating things.
  25. I’m not arguing the hypothetical scenario. Only defending the idea of speculating about FBS football for ndsu as a general statement. What else are you going to write about if you’re Dom Izzo? As annoying as it is to outsiders, ndsu winning 9/11 I’m sure makes it hard to find something interesting to write about if your him or think about if you’re a fan.
