I'm with you. DU is fast and skilled...probably more so than any team UND has faced to date...plus series is in Denver.
-
Especially Blood...he really seemed to over handle the puck this weekend. He logs a ton of minutes, but he isn't Mattson with the puck.
-
Was at both games...kudos to BE for playing well. Has was as lucky as he was good last night, but when the weekend drops your GAA below 2.00 for the year, you are doing something right. The contrast in styles between BE and Dell is crazy. Dell is positionally sound. BE is definitely a flopper. The shorty to tie should never have happened, but UND was lucky to come out of the 1st tied. Tech is decent and vastly improved. Their "depth" as their coach was quoted before series wasn't apparent to me. Their goalie was great, but aren't most goalies who play UND each weekend?!?!? UND needs to get 2 points at DU. Watched DU vs. UM last weekend...yikes, are they fast and skilled. Looking for series similar to UND/CC earlier this year. Hopefully with the same outcome.
-
When was the last time someone had the stones to use "depth" in a sentence as it relates to MTU??? These comments should light a fire under Mario...will be interesting to watch his play and his lines play. And MTU can sleep on Gleason if they want, but I think he has a big weekend...where ever he plays.

Numbers to date: Dell 12-9-2 2.90 .890 Eids 4-2-0 2.08 .924 Dell has not been consistant like his All-American play last year. He was though extremely good last Friday then got caught in that early PP-fest by UMD (7PP in 1st 23 minutes) on Sat. If UND was in a one game, must win scenerio, Dell starts...period. UND IMO is in that mode right now. Tough call for Hak but I'd be suprised if Dell wasn't in net tonight.

We would hit the Down UNDer...and 2:30??? Kind of a late start for a Friday afternoon back in the day!
-
The Hrkac Circus...came to UND from rural ND and THAT show was my baptism into Sioux hockey! Haven't seen anything close since.

+1 for you as well. Handing out +1's today like they're Pez!

But that's a HUGE PR issue for him...especially among alumni and the people of this state. He knew coming in the nickname had to go as terms were in place, but that's not an excuse to handle it as poorly as he has. Being "clinical" has come across as apathetic and clueless.

You are possibly correct as to the Carlson/petition situations, but Kelley could have easily have gotten a jump on the "respectful" transition part of the "retirement" prior to those 2 situations. His inability to understand the depth and vastness of how the retirement of the nickname would affect alumni and the people of this state is mind boggling. Leadership in a vacuum is not leadership IMO.
-
I have no idea how the actual ballot will read, my "no" vote meant I'm voting not to keep nickname.
-
So you have heard them say it (insider), but it's difficult for them to say it publically?? Kind like the tree falling in the forest??? Who hears it?? Kudos to "Timmaaaaaaaay"! Least he has stones. To the bolded comment...how has that worked out to date???
-
Correct...those are the top 3 on the team.

Not disagreeing with anything above, but there has been a lot of finger pointing as who is to blame...Hakstol, Hoeven, Berg, Conrad, Kelley and Fasion to name a few. The problem, I as an alum and many other alums I know have, is the fact Kelley and Fasion, particularly Kelley being the president of UND, never at any time came out publicly to acknowledge that the nickname has/had great importance to the university, has meant so much to so many and the loss of the name, right or wrong, will leave a void for those families, and I mean generations of families, that attended UND. Instead, they send Johnson out with his "scrubbing" coments to appease the PC crowd. I understand my affinity for the name isn't as important as doing what is best for UND and the athletic dept. and I'm in favor of moving on, but I feel Kelley in particular has never shown any empathy or concern for those, like myself and my kids, who have grown up as "Fighting Sioux". His general silence towards what losing this nickname means to so many is appalling. If you are going to "lead" an university, you have to first and foremost have a pulse on the "people" that make up that university and what their feelings are towards an issue affecting the university. Never once have I heard the president of UND address this fact. To me, he has missed the boat on that completely. BTW I will vote "no" in June.

7 PP by UMD in the 1st 23 minutes of the game and 2 of those were 5x3. Not short changing what BE did in basically 2 periods but Dell was razor sharp Friday and then got caught in a tornado with all the penalties on Sat. IMO if we have to win one game, I play Dell. And from here on out it is basically a one game season every game as UND really can't afford any more losses. Has BE deserved a shot...probably. Tough call for Hak, but come Friday night vs. Tech, I would prefer to see Dell.

Kristo's play and Blood's play on Sat. would classisfy as stupid first and reckless second. Sometimes the play of the game dictates the "intent". Brown got laid out by Blood early in the game, then took a big slash at Ben. That wasn't good enough thouh so he sized him up with the game out of reach and little time left on the clock. That is what I would call malicious with intent to cause bodily harm to some extent. The Kristo hit happened right in front of my eyes...early in the game. Stupid on his part, but the punch to Marshall's head after the hit is what got him tossed IMO. To me, Kristo/ Blood and Brown's hits are apple to oranges when taken in context with the game in which they were played. Again, both Kristo and Blood's hits were unneccessary and uncalled for. Brown's was simply an act to get some revenge on Blood IMO.

Dell was an All-American last season and has a better skill set and talent than BE. Problem is he hasn't played that way this year. When Dell is on, UND is almost unbeatable. BE can be very good, but seems to consistantly allow a softie...or 2. Tough call at this point as Dell hasn't asserted himself as the clear cut #1 guy with his inconsistant play at times.
-
If you have a different take thru your brown stained glasses, please share. You can't explain Brown's hit any other way. There is a total difference between malicious (Brown's hit Friday) and stupid (Blood's hit Saturday).
-
As to Brown's blatant cheap shot on Blood at the end of Friday's game (due to the fact Blood totally lit him up with a monster hit earlier in game), when one has a total disregard for another player's safety and uses the fact the game is basically over and he doesn't care if he gets tossed with 40+ seconds left, karma can be a _____! Brown left Sat. game with an injury, didn't return and might be out awhile...hmmmmmmmmmmmm, funny how things work out sometimes.

I was thinking 7-1 'til we get to the X...have to sweep last 2 home series and win the the 1st round of WCHA at home...split at DU is a minimum. Penalties and goaltending the next 4 weeks will seal our NCAA fate IMO. Mac and Blood just have to be a little smarter here on out and avoid the box as much as possible. Dell has been really good, then not so much. Needs to be really good and stay that way from here on out. Think the top line is due for a late season push. Rowney is hot and Easy and Parks are playing well too. If we can get Mario's line to cash in that would be a bonus.
-
You find the answer to this and how to resolve it and you would be suprised at how that answer would also be the solution to a lot of other over-reaching "groups" in this nation's society.
-
Was at Wild game last night so was getting texts from buddy on score. Initially thought Dell laid an egg until I read about Blood's CFB, UMD's 2 5x3 PP and 7 UMD PPs in the 1st 23 min. of the game. When your captain (Mario), assistant captain (Mac) and former assistant captain (Blood) are the top 3 in penalties on the team, with a good number of them ill-advised, it makes it tough for a team short haneded on depth and pure talent to overcome. One thing about this team though is they have grit and heart. A sweep of Tech is needed.

What happens if the first petition gains enough signatures?
Oxbow6 replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
Well said. O'Keefe spelled it out...not a complicated read or argument to understand. Logic trumps emotions when comparing those two guy's opinions.
