  1. BCHL update:

Duncan is 3rd in the scoring race but is now the goal scoring leader.

Kozek is still 2nd overall in scoring and 2nd to Duncan in goal scoring.  The other side of the story, however, is that Kozek's hot start has cooled off.  He hasn't had a goal in half a dozen games, and quite frankly has been relatively quiet the last 10-15.

Watkins has probably been the most consistent scorer of the trio, and is currently 10th overall in points and 10th in goal scoring.

The Sioux are bringing in the current 1st, 2nd, and 10th goal scorers in the BCHL?

    I like it. :0

  2. Listened to the radio while at the game -- I know TH and GL stressed how good TZ played but I don't think they could possibly put into words just how good he was this week.  He's a hard worker with so much talent.

Agreed. He hit two posts this weekend, both shorthanded noless. They will start to go in for him again quickly if he keeps playing the way he has been.

A post for Massen tonight too, that guy just can't seem to buy a goal this year.

I was pleased with how the team played tonight. Good improvement from last night.

Sucks that UND will lose McMahon for the Fri night DU game, so now I really hope that Murray can make it back by next weekend, although not probable.

I was also impressed with BSU. Probably the best team that they have had in Bemidji in quite some time.

  3. I proclaimed UMD done after their performance at the X last year. That one came back to sting a little.

I think the Gophers are still a weekend away from recovery.

I'm torn between who to root for this weekend in the UMD/UM series. On the one hand, we don't want Duluth to catch us in the WCHA standings; but on the other hand, if UM keeps in their current slump, we could eventually catch them.

I guess it doesn't matter though unless the Sioux can get some wins in their remaining WCHA schedule.

  4. You know UND should build an arena for the basketball teams to replace Hyslop, so this doesn't have to happen any more as it messes with both sports. Why I bet they could even attatch it to the Ralph.

Speaking of, when are they supposed to start playing games in the Betty?

  5. Updated SSM stats after their weekend 10-0 win over Benilde and 4-3 win over Holy Angels.

    SHATTUCK-ST. MARY'S BOYS PREP '04-'05 STATS

    # Name Position Gr. Date of Birth Ht. Wt. Home Town GP G A PTS PIM

    04 Taylor Chorney Defense 12 4-27-87 5'11" 180 Hastings, MN 45 4 25 29 50

    08 Kyle Okposo Forward 11 4-16-88 6' 195 St. Paul, MN 42 33 28 61 44

    09 Jonathan Toews Forward 12 4-29-88 6'1" 180 Winnipeg, MB 41 32 35 67 26

    10 Michael Gergen Forward 12 2-17-87 5'11" 185 Hastings, MN 45 35 33 68 78

    21 Charles Genoway Forward 12 12-20-86 5'9" 170 Morden, MB 42 14 26 40 30

Looks like Gergen took over the point lead, one point more than Toews, but he has played 4 more games than Jonathan.

  6. I was at that last BSU/UND game. I remember being impressed with their goalie, Hunt. He made some excellent saves to keep BSU in it. Then there was the disallowed "Kollar-like" goal that Siembida gave up that would have tied it up in the 3rd.

Bucks scored two of our goals, but Goulet scored two of theirs as well, and he is gone now too. Hunt is also gone. Their goalie's stats right now aren't too good, so hopefully we can take advantage and spring to life our offense.

But I still expect at least one close game.

  7. Oh no, they dropped from 2 to 3 in the Pairwise. If they drop 11 more spots, UND will pass them. Maybe someone could start another thread about karma. The two last week were entertaining.

The Gophs are 2-4 in their last 6 games. Only two of those games were against a ranked team. Lost 4 straight at home. If they keep playing like they are now, it won't be long before UND (and alot of other teams) pass them in the PWR.

  8. I liked the article. Sounds like the team is feeling better about how they are playing. Now all we need is some goals and offensive chemistry for the last part of the season.

Looks like the intrasquad game played at Univ Park in the Fri snowstorm as fun. :D

  9. CC 28 43

    Denver 28 39

    UMN 28 38

    UW 28 38

    UND 28 33

    UMD 28 28

    Mankato 28 18

    AA 28 16

    SCSU 28 14

    MTech 28 13

IMO, the two big races are for 2nd place and for last place. :D

I was conservative with UND, having them just split with DU and Wisco at home. Hopefully they can do better than that, which would have them move closer to the DU, UW, and UMN group. If the Sioux can somehow manage to sweep DU or Wisco, there is a chance that they could move up to 4th.

  10. Updated SSM stats:

Toews still leading the way with 65 points in 39 games.

    Chorney has a 4-24-28 line.

  11. WPos: Got your E36 all tucked in for the winter?

E30's are where it's at.

I have a 84 323i Euro edition. The onboard computer is still in German, the gas gauge is in liters, the gas efficiency is in liters/100km. The only thing that was changed from the transport from Europe was the speedometer; which was switched to mph.

  12. Just worthy of note:  Stalock committed to UMD, so if Ziggy did indeed transfer there, he's no better off there than he would have been here.

    Thanks for the recap PCM!

Ziggy did transfer to UMD. I am friends with his older brother. Evidently he is happy there and thinks he will be able to contribute next year.

  13. I don't know who is in the lead on him, unlike with Okposo and Toews, I have no sources on where he's headed, but if you read in between the lines, it seems Minny has a better shot than us.

I agree, and it's too bad, because he looks like a quality player. You never know though, at least we are in the running for him.

  14. I thought Fabian played really well this weekend.  Worked very hard and their line created a lot of chances and drew a few penalties.  A CC fan next to me commented that he thought Fabian was the best player on the ice for the Sioux on Friday.  He was shocked when I told him that he rarely dresses.

That's good to hear that our fourth line was generating some chances at CC, now we just need some pucks put in the net.

  15. Toews, Duncan, Miller, Kozek and Watkins for next season and Oshie & Vandevelde for 06.......add on the good defensive core group and things should fall into place.

The defensive trio of Jones, Chorney, and Lee will be fun to watch in the Sioux green and white. But they will have to be relied on immediately with Jones, Fuher, Schneider, and probably Greene gone after this season.

I have confidence that this team can have strong road series against SCSU and UAA, and then maybe surprise us at home against DU and Wisco. They may still finish 5th in the league, but they will be a dangerous team come playoff time if they make it into the NCAA's.

They are currently 13th in the PWR, but if bonus weights are added, that moves them up to 9th. They are still close to being on the bubble though, so they will need some victories.

  16. Wow. This series was really familiar to the Wisco series. The Sioux outplay the #1 team in the nation this weekend, but just can't put the puck in the net.

I feel for the boys, sounded like they really took it to CC tonight.

I also feel for Lammy, the guy has been nothing but spectacular for the Sioux this year, but they just won't score for him. Again, much like the Wisco series.

  17. Miller is having a tough year in the USHL.  I wonder if he will be ready to play DI next season?  Would he possibly stay in the USHL one more season?

Part of the reason he may be struggling is because Green Bay is having such a horrible year.

Not even Blake Wheeler is having that good of a year on the same team.

    Blake is 10-14-24 with a -5 +/-

    Brad is 8-8-16 with a -6 +/-

He should be able to come in and do alright on the 4th line or maybe even the checking line.

  18. It bothers me because the young guys have potential but are not as experienced or seasoned as the guys we used to get.

It seems to me that the really young guys that we are getting are highly talented players that will probably be able to produce at this level right away. Some examples would be ZParise and Stafford, both came right from SSM and contributed right away. I would expect that some of them can do the same. But you are right, it is definitely going to be a really young class.
