2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
brianvf replied to AlphaMikeFoxtrot's topic in Men's Hockey
It's gonna be like a Chicago Steel reunion next season when BU and UND play. -
That's a good get for them. He always seemed like a quick shifty forward.
-
I hope he gets the appropriate amount of &$%# if they don't win the title now.
-
Well, in that case... Tychonick - 10-24-34 +2 Berg - 18-29-47 -1 Those are their combined stats for the last two seasons, both playing for Omaha. Berg is going to end up being a great pickup for Berry. Still two more seasons to develop into a solid center for us.
-
You’re comparing a 5th year player to a sophomore. I’d wager that Berg easily surpasses those numbers next year.
-
Yeah for sure, they're not ones to hold grudges. https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/cameron-berg-to-fulfill-dream-by-playing-at-und

2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Expected Roster as of 4/1/23 - Going by a somewhat typical 26-man roster (15 F / 8 D / 3 G): Forwards (14) Fr - Emerson / Perron So - Blake / James / McLaughlin / Strinden / Montgomery (RS) Jr - Schmaltz / Kunz / Berg Sr - Gaber / Jamernik / Ness Gr - Caulfield Defense (6) Fr - Benoit / Komzak / Wiebe / Livanavage / Strathmann Gr - Pyke Goalies (3) Fr - Hedquist So - Johnson Sr - Persson Undetermined Decision from Albrecht Caulfield signing or not (still on the forward list for now) Portal and/or Recruit F - Could need two depending on what Albrecht & Caulfield do D - Need two -
Pretty cool story with all the UND players on the Senators. Good luck for UND as well.
-
Yeah, I'd guess we hear more on the Judd situation early next week. If they want to sign him, you'd think they'd make that push sooner rather than later. Agreed on Berg. I think he and Larson are the best two forwards in the portal. Landing him was a big one...I think he'll instantly slot into a top 9 role (going with the three definite scoring lines/one shutdown line).
-
Berg to UND!! Huge get for Berry.
-
These two are going to be fun to watch once they get to campus:
-
Decent chunk of early departures the last couple days. The trio of Mankato juniors (Hirose, Livingstone, and Pavel), Kuntar (jr) from BC, Fulp (jr) from WMU, Laferriere (so) from Harvard, and Dobes & Lohrei (both soph from OSU) all signed in the last day or two.

So no prediction from you again this season that we'll go undefeated?
-
Team can't catch a break this offseason. Gonna be a whole different team next year. I still think the offensive group will be elite. Just gonna be a whole new group of player numbers to remember...like half the team.

Latest transfer portal entrants: Penn State F Connor McMenamin Penn State F Tyler Gratton Canisius D David Melaragni ASU F Jack Jensen Ohio State D James Marooney
-
Let's get some more good news tomorrow. How about Palocsik & Warren for D and then Larson & Berg for F and we call it a day? It'll also be interesting to see where some of the six UND portal entrants end up...so far no news on any of them landing anywhere.

https://www.uscho.com/2023/03/30/minnesota-states-hastings-announced-as-next-head-coach-at-wisconsin/ WHAT?? NOOOO!!! Not another #culture coach!!
-
There was also this game: https://www.collegehockeynews.com/box/final/20221119/mia/ndk/ Miami won 4-3 despite being outshot by UND 36-16. DeRidder stopped 8 of 11 and Hellsten stopped 4 of 5 in that game. Persson stopped 33 of 36.
-
Yes this. If we didn’t get Persson or Haider, then aside from the UMass goalie that went to UML…there seemed to be a pretty big drop when looking for a guy that can start 25+ games next season.
-
DeRidder would have worked out great if he played like '2nd Half DeRidder' all season instead of putting '1st Half DeRidder' in the mix.
-
Persson and Haider were the two best goalies in the portal. And if you've watched Persson play, you know he's a quality goalie. I think this is a great pickup.
-
Pyke seemed to like it compared to Alaska. Ha! Yeah that's true. Although, if a 25yo goalie can lead UMN to the Frozen Four, one can lead UND there as well.
