We'll see what transpires at those four schools once the season ends, but I'd bet that all four will lose players to the portal this season. Combined with UM and UMN losing a crapload to the pros as well. Many other college hockey teams that frequent the NCAA tourney are losing quite a few to the portal this offseason as well. UMass has lost 8 players to the portal. Northeastern has lost 9 players. BC has lost 7 players. Etc.

2002 team had 12 freshmen and five sophomores. http://www.collegehockeystats.net/0102/rosters/ndkm

Wasn't there a year back in the early 2000's...I forget which season it was...where we had a few players graduate and then like 7-8 turn pro as well? So we had like 12-14 (or something like that) new players that next fall? I seem to recall that happening.

If some of the posters on here were the head coach, the entire d-corps would have been told to leave by mid-season.
-
I’m guessing we have some roster additions by end of week.
-
? Other coaches are experiencing the same thing, so I doubt they’re thinking twice.
-
That’s my thought as well.
-
I’ll reserve judgement until I see what pieces Berry lands for roster additions. In all honesty, not one player that has entered the portal was a “make or break” player. There were some surprises, sure. Like if Gaber or Frisch would have entered the portal instead of playing another year. Every team will have portal losses, even the big boys. That’s just the new “fun” of being in the portal era unfortunately. We’ll see who Bubs can get to sign from the portal and go from there.

If we see a few portal additions to this team in the next couple days, then I think we’ll know a bit more. But Moore is still an odd one. He would have received, or at least been given the chance, to get plenty of ice time.
-
Addition by subtraction?
-
That's my question. Was this situation something that they pushed for? As the timing is a little weird. Why did Moore wait a full 1.5 weeks after the portal process started in order to enter himself? Essentially, did the coaching staff get confirmation from a few experienced D in the portal, so they told Moore that he may be sitting next season in favor of some of the experienced portal dmen and the talented incoming freshmen? Who knows.
-
Ha, laughing only because it's true at this point. Well, for all that complained about Moore any time he hit the ice...you won't have to next season.
-
Yeah, Frisch staying for a 5th year...that would have made all the portal entries a-ok.

Expected Roster as of 3/29/23 - Going by a somewhat typical 26-man roster (15 F / 8 D / 3 G): Forwards (13) Fr - Emerson / Perron So - Blake / James / McLaughlin / Strinden / Montgomery (RS) Jr - Schmaltz / Kunz Sr - Gaber / Jamernik / Ness Gr - Caulfield Defense (5) Fr - Benoit / Komzak / Wiebe / Livanavage / Strathmann Goalies (2) Fr - Hedquist So - Johnson Undetermined Decision from Albrecht Portal and/or Recruit F - Could need two depending on what Albrecht does D - Need three G - Need one -

-
Wow, Moore in the portal? That one is unexpected. Time to start nailing down some defensemen.
-
Nice. Him or Haider would be a welcome addition to the roster next season.
-
I viewed it as last year he didn't make enough hard decisions. Having both 10 & 19 stay messed with the development of younger "higher ceiling" players. IMO, the hard decision would have been telling 10 & 19 to move on and to keep Calder another year. That said, of the four similar players listed previously, Portz is one that I would have rather kept since he was still younger and maybe could have progressed even further. But I trust the coaches and players to do what is best for the team and hopefully learn from the mistakes of last year.
-
Olson was their 3rd highest scorer (7-17-24) and Loheit was their 5th (8-11-19), while Thiessen started about half the games in net.
-
He's making the hard decisions. If we bring in a Top 6/9 forward out of the portal, it would mean that he needed to have one of Portz/Ness/Albrecht/Montgomery to the portal, as they all play a similar Bottom 3/Checking line role.
-
One of those F didn’t play a minute. My guess is they will be back to the 15F formula again.
-
If a portal forward gets added (Berg?), the numbers didn’t add up. If Albrecht is staying, another forward needed to hit the portal too. This makes sense from a numbers perspective.

Motzko gets CNH's Coach of the Year: https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2023/03/28_CHN-Coach-of-the-Year-Bob.php No offense to Bob, but I'm pretty sure I could have coached the Gophers to 25+ wins this season.
