  1. The question could just as well be: " would you guys hire a coach that was fired from his last FCS level job for taking a over a healthy playoff contending program and subsequently running it in to the ground?"

No, no, a thousand times no.

If we were talking about Dale I would say yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

  2. I was in class today and someone mentioned a few South St. Paul players that had committed to play at UND starting next year. Has anyone heard about this? I am not sure if she knew exactly what I meant when I asked if they had committed.

UND used to have a nice pipeline to SSP back in the 1980s with Steve Doody and the Veldman brothers

  3. When I was in high school Murph welcomed me to UND football practice and he hooked me up with Rob Bollinger and Erv Mondt for some coaching. He also connected me with some of the players who gave me advice also. It was a great help to me.

I later went away to college but transferred back to UND and was a football walk on who eventually played for 3 seasons. Much of the reason I tried out for the football team was the excellent experience I had with Murph and his staff.

  4. I thought you were describing UND hockey fan. Really hate? I think jealousy is a better word.. Especially when the whole state and even gf is talking about the Bison-Gopher game and NO ONE is paying attention to spud bowl.

Not completely true. I live in the Twin Cities, am not talking about the UM-AC game, am paying attention to the spud bowl and will be at the game after some great tailgating fun.

  5. I agree with your statement, I just think the coaches were alittle more disappointed in not getting Letteri than Siouxforce 19 was considering they offered him a scholorship.

Vinnie would have been a tough get for the Sioux. His grandfather Louie almost flipped his lid when Zach Parise chose UND.

  6. Love how you guys all say MN is so bad when we are going to play them. Are they any worse than Idaho or Fresno? Last year they won their last two games against Iowa and ILL and opened this year and played USC to almost a draw. Their last game they beat last years MAC champion. They had a bad game against NMSU but hell who doesn't have bad games once in awhile. We'll see what happens, we could be pee down our leg and get taken to the wood shed.

Bad game once in a while? They play bad constantly and sprinkle in a little mediocrity once in a while. They haven't won the Big Ten title since 1967.

  7. Well whether he mislead them or not, it doesn't matter. Time ran out. If Spirit Lake wants to acquire the logo which is what I have sort of gathered? Correct me if I'm wrong. That's cool, if they want to sell Spirit Lake shirts with the logo I don't care.

You keep missing my point. You posted earlier - If it was that important to them, they would have elected officials based on their views of the nickname.

They did but the guy didn't follow through.

  8. He considered it...but didn't allow it.

Yep. My point was to refute the claim that Standing Rock elected people who were against having a vote on the name. I think they elected a Chairman believing that he would allow a vote.

  9. They elected the officials that threw it aside. This is entirely on the citizens who elected said officials. If it was that important to them, they would have elected officials based on their views of the nickname. From what I have heard, no proof that this in fact happened, a similar petition was signed by several Natives on the Rez to block a vote on the Sioux name. If that is indeed a fact(unknown, too lazy to look for where I heard it), then what do you do? Take off the kelly green glasses, and tell me if two groups sign petitions opposing one another, and the elected officials are against it, they should carry out the vote anyways.

When Charles Murphy defeated Ron His Horse is Thunder for Tribal Chairman most believed that he would allow a vote on the subject. That probably played a role in the election. Based on pre-election positioning, I think they did elect a chairman who was open to a vote. Here is some of the story from WDAZ after the election.

His Horse is Thunder, a staunch opponent of the nickname and logo, did not allow a tribe-wide vote on UND's use of the Sioux name, saying such a vote would not be binding. In July, Murphy told WDAZ he would consider allowing a tribe-wide vote on UND's use of the Sioux nickname if elected chairman.

  10. For an NDSU fan you have been pretty reasonable so at least one of us should return the favor.

I think you are selling your FB team short. I don't think a FB game would be a blowout. I think you guys could hang with tthe Sioux for at least the first half and the game would stay realatively close this year. Although your first two games are against a couple of marshmellows, so it is hard to gauge, you had a good finish last year and enough kids back that I think the Bison wouldn't get "blown out". Remember UND is still in transition and are still building toward the future. Within the next couple of years, I would say you may see the traditional UND excellence especially with UND being in the Big Sky. The last 13 games where UND won 10 of those 13 games were so long ago that shouldn't influence your opinion that UND would blow out the Bison. Don't give up on them so soon. Scheduling all sports including FB icould work every year if the AD's would make it happen.

    Well played Ira!

  11. This match was UND's "match of the year". Even Hardee said after the match that they have been waiting a year for this match. It meant MUCH more to UND than it did to NDSU. It was horrible scheduling on NDSU's part to play this match right before a weekend series at home against a top 20 team. UND has nothing to play for except the NDSU game and the reaction of the Sioux players abnd coaches afterward showed it. It looked like they had just won the Super Bowl. They have no NCAA tournament to play for. If you asked UND players and Coach Hardee what their biggest match of the season would be this year, they would have said to a man NDSU. The same could not be said about the importance of the match to NDSU. NDSU would tell you the Summit League and the conference tournament is by far more important than the UND match.

If the Bison players and coaches overlooked UND and didn't realize this was a big game for them too they are dumber than I thought they were. I can't believe they didn't realize the impact on recruiting now that they can't claim superiority over UND.

I think they did realize this and just got beat on that night. You can spin it anyway you want to but it is just that, spin.

  12. So I heard all this complaining during the nickname debate about getting into a new conference and how great it would be mainly for a sport that can't sell out a home opener and is 4,000 seats empty for that opener. Someone please tell me again why it was a good idea to sell-out for that Big Sky conference? I know people say it is not just about hockey but in this case, hockey drives the money. I just think it was the wrong attitude to take. I also now I will get ripped for this but oh well.

You make the point for exactly why we need to be in the Big Sky. We need to have a conference, something to play for and build some rivalries or we will continue to see crowds like this or worse.

  13. They actually plan to institute a name-change in the middle of the school year? Why? IMHO, the SBOHE and Kelley are fearful a a new law suit - this one by people of Spirit Lake against the NCAA that declares the NCAA a discriminatory organization. If a Spirit Lake group gained standing, their arguments would be legitimate in court. (The NCAA only demanded one Objiwe tribe in Michigan for CMU. The NCAA is discriminating against Spirit Lake by requiring a different standard: two tribes. The lawsuit settlement agreed to by the state of ND and the NCAA -- which Spirit Lake had no part of - discriminated against Spirit Lake.) By dropping the name mid-season, any lawsuit would also need an injunction against the State / UND from dropping the nickname. Once the name is dropped, the name will never come back.

Why rush the change? I 'm sure the threat from the Big Sky is the reason.
