I would guess if he was working on somebody else in the last 5 days he wouldn't tell you and unless he was successful you would never know about it. Has the school ever announced there are two finalists. I haven't seen it anywhere official, only on message boards.Really, we've know it was down to 2 candidates for nearly 5 days now and he still hasn't even done final interviews with either of them. Try and name a single other university that would do something like that. He's completely botched this and I hope that his first act after naming the new coach is to turn in his own resignation because he's utterly incompetent.

I think it is just as likely that Faison was working to convince one or more of his top choices to apply right to the end. I really doubt it was laziness or incompetence. A lot of opinions on here have somehow become fact in most posters eyes.It was a completely ignorant post and there is no reason to defend crap like that. The race of the players leaving isn't in any way relevant and isn't worth discussion. What does bear discussion is the fact that our AD let this program go over 30 days without a head coach out of what appears to be sheer laziness or incompetence.
-
I still will back Faison and believe he is doing what he can within the system he has to deal with. With that said.........this is really frustrating.
-
If this is true as reported in May 2012 by the Missoulian then he should have been sent away by the HR department. How do you defend his non-action? Or do you think it isn't true?I agree...a "national search" with Faison's "vast network", as some have called it, gives us 1) Bubba and 1A) DoBoer as contenders to become the new HC of this FB program.
And Pflu was sent out to sea by the HR dept................
But in January, UM President Royce Engstrom wrote in a draft of planned public remarks that then-Grizzlies football coach Robin Pflugrad had disciplined some football players accused of raping a woman, but did not report the incident to his supervisors.
-
I work for a large corporation (excess of $2 billion) and that is exactly what our HR department is for.I can't say with certainty whether past off-the-field events should disqualify Pflugrad from getting the job. But I can say that I'm not comfortable with HR making that call. That is the call for nobody other than Faison or Kelley. Pflugrad is clearly qualified for this job. If Faison wants to pass on him due to those events, I can live with that. But if there is any truth the rumors that Pflugrad didn't make the final 9, as ordained by the all-powerful HR department based on their points system, then this process has some serious problems.

Agreed. Pretty disturbingNice strawman. No the hiring of Pflugrad wouldn't turn players into rapists; however, it does suggest a failure of leadership and a coach who has little concern for the off field behavior of his students. Montana football had a sexual assault problem. Pflugrad failed to address it in a meaningful way. I've seen nothing from Pflugrad that suggests that he learned anything from the mess or taken any sort of responsibility for his handling of it. Somethings are way more important than winning a football game.

I agree with this. There is a lot of angst based on internet message board guesses regarding what is happening behind the scenes. We really don't know.I think we all need to step back and see what happens before we hang someone out to dry. I don't think anyone know exactly what is happening or the reasons things being done. I trust Faison though.

I know it is a reach but that is a reason that I would think Dale might be interested in coming back to UND. He is in an iffy situation there, he has recruiting ties here and it would start the clock again on his success or failure being determined. How is Dale Lennon feeling right now knowing both of his coordinators are shopping themselves?
I think the handwriting is on the wall for Dale in Carbondale: Win in 2014 or be moved along.

I talked to a family member of Tibesar's the day after Muss was fired. He didn't know the job was open but was quick to say that Tim loves what he is doing and doubted he would be interested. It is hard to believe that Faison wouldn't have done some preliminary looking into Tibesar's interest when he posted the job. Other than rumors, we really don't know what he did or didn't do.
-
Are you saying the process didn't work when we hired Lennon? I agree that the process is ugly but it did result in a good hire in that case.Unfortunately, that is our bush-league D2 style hiring process for a FB coach. This is the same process they went through to hire Lennon back in 1999. Search committee, long length of time, etc.

Siouxjoy explained the process earlier in this thread. HR gives points to applicants based on the criteria in the posting. Faison can interview anybody he wants to but he also has to interview anybody that has a higher point total than that person. That isn't his fault.Ira - I don't think anyone here is disparaging the fantastic network of former UND athletes or what they have accomplished (and, I'm proud to say includes family members of mine). It is one of the things that makes many of us proud to be Sioux fans. I wish the athletic department was in more contact with this group. I think what people are complaining about is a process where a "HR" committee has winnowed out what many think is the best candidate, and Bubba has apparently risen to the top of the bunch with what many of us see as a lackluster resume. The only reason he is on the radar at all is that he was at UND as a DII coordinator. I wish our program was so successful that we could seamlessly transition coaches and promote from within, but it has been a train wreck for too long. I love UND guys, but sometimes it is necessary to change direction. Our football program can't afford another 6-7 years of mediocrity. This is a crucial hire and many find UND's process bizarre at best. Sometimes I think people say "good old boys" to describe a process that is confusing and seems to happen behind closed doors by insiders. We are worried that Faison is not thinking outside of the box. There are coaches with a UND connection that would be excellent, but apparently none have applied. I don't think anyone intends this to be a slur on our fine network of alumni.

Rocco has been very good again.

The American Tire commercials have become classics in my opinion.
-
I don't know if I can watch that 5 star collision commercial again with the deer on the couch. Wow.
-
I think the 9 were forwarded to Faison so it wasn't his choice to not include Pflugrad if that is true
-
We've regressed to arguing about what makes SU good. We need a coach soon so we have something else to talk about.
-
any read on why?Bollinger contacted, not interested. Bubba is high on list so far, but decision hasn't been made.
-
I'm a Bubba guy. He set Duluth up for success and I liked him when he was here.
I haven't looked enough into the Pflu issues at Montana to decide for myself how much of that was his fault but it does raise flags.
-
I am and have been thinking the same thing. So is anyone else nervous about the list of candidates? I realize from the get go that everyone said the best candidates would more than likely apply on 12/10 but we only have one applicant that interests me, Pflugrad.
-
That is disappointingBrooks Bollinger will not be applying.
-
I agree that Pflugrad and Caruso are worth a look but not automatics either. Pflugrad bring some serious baggage with him and Caruso would be stepping up from DIII.All I am asking is that in choosing the next coach, we look at only the most obvious qualifications as objectively as possible.
Ability to recruit
Ability to assemble experienced staff
DI FBS coaching experience
NFL experience
When voiding out name-recognition, Bollinger doesn't match up with most candidates. He hasn't had to recruit for very long at the collegiate level. Both Robin Pflugrad and Glenn Caruso have. Bollinger has never had to assemble a staff. Both Pflugrad and Caruso have. Bollinger has 2 years of DI FBS coaching experience, Caruso has none, and Pflugrad has 14 years of FBS experience (Arizona State, Washington State, Oregon). Bollinger has NFL playing experience, but no coaching experience. Caruso and Pflugrad also have no NFL coaching experience. When adding all that up, what do you get.
1) Pflugrad
2) Caruso
....
?)Bollinger
It's basic application review in correlation with the job requirements and preferences.

I am too and am just as surprised that Wyoming doesn't want him on the job full time for what they are paying him.I still in in disbelief that NDSU is going to let Bohl and his staff that he has offered to come with him continue coaching. Will be interesting to see how the recruiting class holds up.
-
I am assuming NDSU will have to keep their posting open for 30 days also. Unless GT can guarentee somebody the job in the next few days before all of the apps come in I don't think it should impact our search.
-
I was told they put it to the players and they voted to have him keep coaching. I assumed that was GT's decision to do that. I don't know what the % was each way.If the team actually took a vote, I'm curious as to what the tally was.
I'm sure they get it...if someone waved a million bucks in front of each and every one of them to do it, every single Bison player with eligibility remaining would transfer to UND tomorrow.
