  1. Yup. Studsrud was made aware of the game clock by Garmin and a couple others. He wasn't going to really run it way down I don't think. It only gave them enough time for a kickoff return but I'm sure next time he'll milk it down to 3 or so seconds.

I was just completely befuddled though with the people in the stands screaming bloody murder because he wasn't snapping the ball as if we needed a TD.

You shouldn't be completely surprised by fools in the stands.  You don't have to know anything about football to by a ticket and that is proven over and over again.

  2. Great win. And to those fans that were screaming when Studsrud was running down the clock before the field goal, shut up and figure it out.

my question was why didn't we run it down to 3-4 seconds before the kick so no kickoff. Maybe with a more experienced qb the coaches would have more comfortable running it down farther.
  3. I spoke with one of our top players on the defense this week and he had nothing but good things to say about Hanson.  He was confident in Studsrud but felt bad for Jake and that wasn't going to get a shot.  I definitely got the impression that Jake is an important part of the team.

  4. UND didn't screw up the coin toss.  They chose to take the wind after losing the toss.  That is not "screwing it up".  If the Texas thing never happened this wouldn't even be brought up.

UND chose to take the wind in the second half instead of the ball.  Why?  Because they were down 21-3 with an average offense and knew they needed to catch up NOW or be down too far to even get close.  How did it work out?  They scored two TD's in the 3rd/start of 4th and made it 21-17, which is exactly what they hoped for.  They at least now had a shot.

Bubba didn't know how his defense would play in the fourth quarter but he knew damn well that they better try and catch up now instead of later into the wind.

His decision to take the wind in the 3rd quarter worked about as well as it possibly could have.

I think we actually won the toss at the start of the game and took the wind so SUU took the ball.

SUU got their choice in 2nd half and took the ball again so we chose to take the wind for 3rd qtr.   We wouldn't get the choice both at start and at half.

  5. I have a few friends that played for NDSU, but who UND wanted bad. One was recruited under Lennon and the other 2 under Muss.

What Joe Glen said closely resembled what they told me about their visits with UND. They said more time was spent trying to convince them why NDSU and SDSU sucked rather than time spent discussing the program at UND.

I talked with a few parents of UND players a couple of years ago and they said similar things about NDSU.   They told me that the SU coaches talked crap about UND during recruiting and the things they told their kids were not true.  They also said their kids spent a fair amount of time when new recruits came to visit trying to straighten out the lies they had been told by SU coaches.

I guess it all depends on whose ox is being gored.

  6. SDSU's new Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Facility (the "SJac").  The pictures were taken last Saturday, October 11, 2014. The Daktronics video boards have to be installed along with the usual signage (Exit signs etc.) but she's ready to go.  We'll host a couple of college meets and two high schools meets this year.  I ran track back in the day and always thought the short guys had an advantage on 200 meter tracks because those of us with long legs had to fight to stay on the corners.  A 300-meter track is not an advantage to a long-legged runner but it eliminates the advantage the stubby guys have on 200 meter tracks.

    Very impressive!

  7. Bartles did a good job and I expected he would.  He is a good QB. For some of you, there is nothing that Mollberg can do that will satisfy you.  He played well against both Montana and against Portland. He threw a pick 6 against Montana State but played a decent game.  Some of these wide open receivers people talk about are not always the entire story.  Bartles missed a wide open reciever in the end zone but was getting pressured. Some games he will make that play and some days he won't.  He did make a good throw on the TD but wasn't perfect.  It isn't going to be.

Leading 2 scoring drives in second half was good, but not a miracle nor unexpected.  Remember if Tillman doesn't score we likely don't win. That wouldn't have been Bartle's  fault but  it would have been Mollberg's  fault had he been the QB. . Hd Mollberg been the QB at end of first half and not let the play clock run down before the snap he would have been crucified by some of you.  If you guys think musical QB's is anyway to go you are nuts.  It didn't work last year.  Bartles was the starter last year and too many of you forget he lost the job cuz he wasn't playing well.  Joe then lost the job cuz he wasn't playing well.  Joe earned the job this fall cuz he was playing  well in the spring game and in pre-season.  I know a couple of you think practice doesn't matter but it does.  Mollberg has survived a rocky start with receivers who were dropping the ball and running poor routes, and an Oline that has struggled.  He has also made his own mistakes.  What I believe is the mistake too many of you are making is you forget this is a team game and although the QB's are maybe the most important position on the offensive side of the ball but only one position.  Joe is starting to look like the QB the coaches and many of us believe he is capable of.  Bubba and his staff see the same thing.  Bigger upside but still work in progress. If Bartles becomes the QB you can't throw him under the bus either as he adjusts and matures. I don't think we aren't seeing what you see, we just have a different opinion and dont' get pissed if the coaching staff seems to agree with our opinion

I was really disappointed with the end of the first half when we were on our own 9 and snapped the ball twice with the clock running and left about 12-14 seconds on the play clock both times.  That gave PSU 20-25 seconds extra which is just what they needed to get another FG before half.   That needs to be recognized by the coaches, QB, center or anybody that can speak up and keep that from happening at the time.  Poorly done by all.

  8. You guys should be redirecting your anger towards a certain punter/kicker who became ineligible over the summer and completely F'ed over the entire team.  He would have been kicking the field goal and more than likely made it.  BTW, the hold was bad and the timing was completely off.

Blaming a true freshman who was not prepared by the staff to be the kicker until week 3 of fall camp (due to above-mentioned player) is pretty low, IMO.  The kid has done fairly well considering he shouldn't be kicking in the first place.  Oh, and the true freshman holder is the walk-on punter who also should not be playing due to above mentioned player.

I don't know about you guys but I sucked my first year at my current work.

The game is really fast for those players right now.   It will slow down and get easier with more experience.   That is a tough place to put a couple of freshman in this early in their careers.   Hope for the best but it is understandable.

  9. If Bubba didn't trust Joe he wouldn't be in there. I spoke with Bubba after the game. He knows our issues on both sides of the ball. The problem isn't Joe. The play selection is all part of game planning based on looking at your opponents game film and evaluation of your own personnel. Joe can run veer, read option play action and can make all the throws. This is a team game and we are struggling to piece together the puzzle offensively. Lots of our blog experts thought changing RBs was going to make a big difference and it hasn't solved the running game. We need to protect the passer whomever that is and open some holes for the the RB. Until the line blocks, it isn't going to get better.

I'm with Ira.   As I posted earlier in this thread I don't think Joe played poorly.   He had 5 incompletions and if we catch a couple of balls we could have and we get a PI that wasn't called he is all of a sudden 4 for 6 and everybody is happy.  He had a bad throw where he got hit as he released the ball.   There was one poor throw in Q2 but that was the only one I would put on him.

  10. I'm sure I will get roasted for this but was at the game and didn't think Mollberg was bad. I know the stats say otherwise but I thought he was ok. One incompletion should have been PI, at least 1 was dropped and another he got ht in ribs as he released it and it went way high. A couple of times he threw really early because of pressure. He did have 1 bad throw where he overthrew a receiver that was wide open I qtr 2 I think it was
