And if he returns it to he 50 everyone is talking about what a playmaker he is.

Should of he let it go, probably.  Has he earned the right to try and return that this year, IMO.....yes

I want one of my best players trying to make a play and yes he's earned that right.

On the fumbled kickoff a Weber guy looked to be about three yards offside.  That's what initially I thought what the flag was for.

I saw the same thing and thought that was the flag too.  He was way offside.

I'm still going to question who moved early on the 4th and 1 false start. Seen the replay multiple times now and can't figure it out

The TV sounded like it was on the QB moving forward to get in position under center

I don't care that it was an individual player dropping the ball. Kostich doesn't get on the plane back if I'm in charge. 6 years of special teams costing us games. He should've been fired years ago.

one of our best offensive players dropped a ball untouched and you are calling for a coach to be fired.   Wow

We have the right guy in the right position and he made a mistake.  How is that on the coach?

Depends on if quality losses are worth more than quality wins.

We put ourselves here by losing to ISU.  Also, no give me UND gets to 7 wins

Agree with the last point.  We have to play well to beat anybody.  Any letdown in the last 2 games would be trouble.

SDSU are overrated? A lot of FB knowledge went into that post.

The only time I saw SDSU play was against the Gophers and they were very good that day.  Could have easily won the game.

I think lukewarm interest and they haven’t offered. SDSU maybe PWO.  D2 offers.  DL hasn’t had to pass because we had Isaiah Thompson who has run for over 3000 yds in less than 3 years.   DL also has a 240 lb FB, 215RB with decent speed and a 205 Lb RB/WR so they haven’t had to pass. He has been very good, he can run, play defense and can throw deep but I don’t think he has thrown 10 times in a game more than once. With Thompson out for season, and a very tough Rocori team in Section final this week he is our key player moving forward. UND wants more film on him cuz he had a broken wrist and couldn’t get to their FB camp last summer. (I’m pretty sure that’s more than you wanted to know but may explain caution from UND and SDSU).

Thanks.  DL kids have been great for us in the past.  I hope it works out.

Max Gunderson visited weekend of CalDavis game. Led Detroit Lakes to 48-27 win over defending Section 8AAAA champs Willmar.  He was 5-8 with TD passes of 42 and 30 for 127yds no interceptions.  Also 13 caries for 93 yds and a 47yd TD Run. He also had two first half interceptions.  6’4” 210lbs. QB/Safety. SDak State has had him in and still interested. He is still growing. Possible QB but could be TE or LB.  Outstanding athlete. Great leader. UND needs to get this kid.

Have we offers and are we hard after him?

Fantastic job be the defense and special teams.  Feels like Fighting Sioux football again!

The young DL really stood out, especially after disaster was predicted.  Evan Holm really was stellar again:  welcome back!

Holm can play 4 games and keep his red shirt.  What happens if he plays 4 regular season and we make the playoffs?   Would any playoff games push him over the 4 or are they exempt?

  10. My take on what has happened to UND football since 2004 when we were consistently beating NDSU and SDSU.

    • NDSU and  SDSU moved to DI.  They started getting more of the recruits they wanted with more scholarship $$.   I know Mertens didn't turn out to be the savior at NDSU but everyone wanted him.  He told Dale he couldn't justify coming to UND for half scholarship vs. NDSU for full ride.
    • UND moved to DI but was not eligible for anything during transition years.  NDSU and SDSU were now eligible.  During that time some kids said they didn't want to 'play for nothing' and chose our rivals.  Veldman for one
    • The SU's have had great success since then and have superior facilities.  It is hard to overcome those things.

We aren't loaded with kids that only had DII offers other than ours because we shy away from kids with DI offers.   We need to get lucky with some kids (and we have) and find others that want to be at UND for one reason or another.

Stockdam had some excellent points.  We also need to really upgrade our facilities and $$ spent on the program.   It still drives me nuts that we divert any money from the football program to the REA.   Football is at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to $$ supporting the program compared to hockey.  Why take anything, no matter how small, from fb.   It's a small amount of $$ compared to what they need but symbolically it tells you all you need to know about our athletic department priorities.

On a sad note, former UND QB and punter, Tom Biolo passed away from a heart attack. Played 1977-1980.

I watched Bio when I was in hs.  He was a beast. I’ve often thought that we need a qb like him to help turn this program around.

One bad Phantom penalty and then no  pass interference call gives Green Bay a chance tonight

That was a horrible call on Detroit.  Gave GB a first down when they would have punted.  Instead went down and scored to get within 2.

I just watched the highlights and there was another phantom call for the same hands to the face on the same guy which let GB run the clock down to nothing and kick the winning fg.

Right here. Here is one of the problems in this program and a few others on campus. "They weren't expected to go 10-0, they were predicted to be either 7-4 or 6-5." People will invariably live up or down to the expectations that are set for them. So if the "standard" around here is 7-4 or 6-5, that is what you will get.

And you are right, this isn't the NFL. But it isn't high school either. But that is how this athletic department has been run for so many years. Chaves picked one heck of a time to come here as athletic director. Lots of crap to clean up.

This is just plain silly.  You are really saying that if I had just expected the team to go 10-0 they would be undefeated now by living up to my expectations?   I guess I will try that from here on out and into next year.  Just think of the power I will have as I recruit my friends to do the same.

    Interesting. Please cite source.

Nothing concrete.  Just from being around Lowell a little and the program in general.

    Same as any other booster

Literally, exactly what will happen.  And as long as Lowell is around it wouldn't surprise me if 5-6 got him another season.

    Lowell has no pull.

How does Brock not run that route to the sticks? It’s fourth fucking down

I think if he falls forward (his backside) he might get it.  instead he tried to sidestep the defender and came up short.
