All 3 are good bball players, whether they become the DI players that Woodside and Winkelman are remains to be seen. The bottom line here is Coach Jones is recruiting H.S. seniors and working to build his program from the bottom up. The transfer and JUCO thing, if overdone, doesn't work. We saw that at the end of Coach Glas' tenure. I know the people in Fargo will tell us how these 3 aren't good enough and that's fine. The bottom line is, with the exception of the Dufault kid from Killdeer, they are as good as it gets in ND this year and they WANT to play at UND. Fargo folk can throw their own under the bus. UND folk need to support the changes we are seeing and hope these kids make an impact 2 or 3 years down the road.

Don't you dare put Rutgers in the league of "Big Games". they are terrible and non-competitive in the Big East. It wasn't their football team, or their womens team you played, it was their mens team.
-
Why would you throw Mayville under the bus? Mplsbison is already recruiting him to Bisonville.

Finley dressing for a Caps game? May be a few years away my friend!!!!

Totally correct and excellent response. I can tell you all from personal experience that there are plenty of DI players in the juco ranks of Montana, Iowa, Nebraska, and even North Dakota. Travis' last game at Lake Region was against Indian Hills CC out of Iowa. They probably have 7-8 DI players on their team and all he did was get 20 points and 8 rebounds. I guarantee you he has DI talent over the last 2 years.

Congrats on post #600. Too bad they aren't all at Bisonville where they scratch something other than their heads!!

He will never play in the NHL in any kind of important role. No way, can't see it.
-
Well then, if the harassment only forced him out his dorm, that's OK. Regardless of whether a person is drunk, stupid, or just a plain old racist, Harassment/bullying is wrong on every level.
-
Excellent H.S. player, no doubt. Whether he can guard a point guard at the next level will be a question. Body composition is a concern also but the kid is a baller. Reminds of Al-Amin kid from Mpls. who went to UConn. Allard visits Cornell and then decides between UND and Cornell. He could be a good one also.

If salary was the only issue, I agree. Remember, Clem had an assistant, Dan Kozmoski, who left to become a head coach in the MIAC. While the salary was lateral or less, the head aches and the hours of work made the job at the DIII level more appealing. Could be the same for Guentzel.

Are any of those students getting full scholarships, paid for by alumni like me who donate to the Univeristy, to represent the University in National competition? If they are, then yes, their names should also appear in the paper. I know its important to come to the hockey board with blinders on but isn't anyone here concerned about a young man who makes 3 bad decisions regarding alcohol in about a year? I know each incident is different but, talk about bad luck, do we really believe there isn't something more to this story? Just an opinion on my part but the Karma isn't good.

Guess the grieving process is over then!!! If they're over, maybe we all should be.
-
We've recruited players? Why didn't anyone tell me?
-
Anyone else suprised that the Summit didn't get ONE team in the NIT? Seems to me like there should be at least 2 teams going on to a tourney at the end of the year. Does (has) that league always gotten that little respect? Seems to be no margin for error playing in that conference.
-
Ditto the good luck premise. A national title will mean each of the Big 4 in ND and SD have at least one national title. I think SDSU got one early in the millenium.
-
Pretty much, yeah. go away.
-
My point exactly. No one over here cares and I knew this is how this whole thing would roll.
-
I think I've finally found someone with less class than most Bison people who come over here. Trash NDSU on your own team site.
-
Totally agree...................Perfect fit for coach and he'll do very well at Concordia. His wife would be a great fundraiser for that type of school also. They'll both be great assets to Concordia.

I believe what I said was, we shouldn't be bashing ANYONE. I tried to defend Coach Roebuck by deflecting the blame to the girls. In a round about way, it was meant to try and make those who bash the coach and defend the players see things from a different point of view. Because if didn't work, I apologized and said we shouldn't rip any of those associated with the program If that makes you sick................tough. You say the girls played their hearts out all year..................does that mean Coach didn't coach his heart out all year? If that's what you meant, I disagree. He, and his staff work very hard to make every team achieve to its highest potential. If that didn't happen this year, they are all equally to blame, and blame is probably not the right word. USD is good, very good. They beat us 3 times and only 1 other team had that success. When 27-4 isn't good enough. I'm not sure I can help either side be more tolerant or happy about how the season went.

My ONLY question of this coaching staff is that we haven't done enough recruiting outside the area. There are no DI players in northeast ND and northwest MN (Wahlin excluded). I think the hard part for our coaches right now is w/out a conference and a chance to play in the tourney, who'd come here? NDSU found out the hard way that they needed to expand their recruiting. We'll see what their new coach does. Like I said, those who want to rip coach, go ahead. Personally, I'll defend him and his knowledge of the game. Hey, I'm a coach too. I don't want all the credit when my team wins and I don't want all blame when WE lose. Some people here can't, or won't, see both sides.
-
Totally agree. Don't bash players...............or COACHES. My bashing of players came after reading constant criticism of Coach Roebuck. I defended him the only way possible on a message board. I do support everyone involved with UND but I will go to any means necessary to defend what I believe is the best basketball coach in school history, men or women. Enough said!!
-
My reference is to the next person who coaches here, smart ass. I don't remember referring to him as God but since I'm pretty sure you've never recruited a player, organized a practice, drawn up a play, coached a game, or even blown a whistle, why should I expect anything less? Coach will do a couple more years but he is at the age where he won't see this DI thing through. Amy didn't, Coach Lavin at USD isn't going to, Miles left, etc. We'll start seeing coaches come and go about every 5 years. DI in North Dakota is a stepping stone, not a stopping point.
-
UND would LOVE to have a class like NDSU has, we haven't had good basketball here in many years. No one invited you over here so we could rip your program, that's just a bonus for a goof like you coming over and trolling. That being said, you finished in the middle of the Summit, lost to Florida and Rutgers (didn't make Big East tourney, by the way). You have 2 awesome DI wins against Wisconsin and Marquette (UND is light years from pulling that off). Besides that, what have you done? And don't come back with, "More than you guys". That would make you a 7 year old.
-
To compare a coach to Bobby Knight and then rip him is crazy. What coach wouldn't take 3 national titles and 1 runner up and go away pleased with what he did. The teams that beat him prior to Jenny Crouse and the others was NDSU and Delta St. Those 2 schools only won 6 or 7 national championships between the 2 of them; not bad, I guess. Cutting them wasn't meant literally. Of course their good players or they wouldn't be here. But they have to compete and this team didn't; not like they should have. I don't mean to be too critical of Jossy, I'm sure she does the best she can. However, if Coach thought she could play 23-30 minutes a night and help the team, don't you think he'd play her? He is trying to win games and coaches typically put the 5 players that can help them win out on the floor more than the other players. It gets real old when every loss gets dropped at the feet of a man who has done more for womens athletics at this university and any one in the history of the institution. He'll be gone in a couple of years and you better be careful what you all wish for. It can and will be worse.
