That's funny Dave, because you sure sounded full of yourself on post #81 where you said:
-
There's hard and there's dirty. I like the hard but deplore the dirty. You apparently are unable to differentiate the two.
-
What's really odd is that your sticking up for the cheap dirty players that are out there trying (and succeeding) to injure other players. How anyone can be against fighting but sticking up for that behavior is puzzling.
-
Great news. I'm glad to see that the assistant coaches are getting more money. They can be as important (almost) as the head coach to getting it done.
-
First of all the injury was not unintentional. Any player hitting another player like that knows that it's likely to cause an injury. The fact that DaveK makes excuses for Paukovich really shows his mentality. But let's talk about the lack of fighting in college hockey and some of the consequences. In other leagues you don't have players running the goalies but it's rampant in college hockey. In an earlier comment you stated that the officials will take care of it. That if the player continues to commit the infractions the coach will take care of the matter. I say that the two minutes that officials usually call for running the goalie doesn't deter them at all. If Don Lucia didn't want Ben Gordon to run the goalie every chance he got then yes Lucia would do something about. I would say that Lucia feels that two minutes is a small price to pay for taking the goalie out of his game (if not the game itself). The only deterrent for Gordon last year was when a Mankato (if memory serves) player punched him enough times that the official through both players out for fighting. An example closer to home was when we were playing Mankato at home. Phil took a knee to the head without even a call. Mankato was able to score once (or was it twice) in short order while he undoubtedly had cobwebs. That running the goalie cost us a game. Now in a perfect world the officials would take care of it. But they don't in the real world. The lack of fighting gives a green light to run the goalies which hurts the game and leads to more injuries than would otherwise occur.

He ended how many careers? But DaveK says that Ulf is good and fighting which rarely ends a career (or even causes a player to miss a game) is bad.
-
Ah yes, College Hockey and the NHL is a substitute for a good father. If you have a problem with what's happening in squirt hockey then you should be talking to the head of the league, not blaming it on what happens in college hockey and pro hockey. By the way, there are things that are illegal in squirt hockey (like checking) that are legal in College and the NHL. We better not let the boys watch that because there's no room for parenting or coaching.
-
DaveK must just like seeing players getting needlessly hurt by cheapshots.
-
Great post but I do have to take issue with this. Whether or not he knew it was a a delayed penalty doesn't matter that much. Without knowing that the whistle was going to blow it was still an inexcusable hit. Any hockey player knows a hit like that is very likely to injure so cutting him any slack is wrong as is the idea that he was sorry after he broke Bina's neck. So what, he hit him dirty on purpose.
-
Right the game isn't being marred by horrible officiating, a gutless front office and dirty players. It is marred by teammates standing up for eachother. I got it now. /massive sarcasm My point is that given an officiating system that gives a damn about the game you wouldn't need fighting.
-
A slap on the wrist which didn't send a message that you don't go around throwing cheap shots that will likely break someone's neck. Your buddy Paukovich didn't suffer a broken neck or much of anything in this fight. You're acting as if someone were out to hurt him worse than he hurt Bina.
-
Nice you got several players injured but you had a few power plays. I've never seen a player seriously injured in a college hockey fight. I have seen a player get his neck broken by bad officiating losing control of the game leading up to that hit (and not calling the hit according to the rules).
-
And you should just sit back and take the cheap shots when the refs won't call them.
-
Exactly, the drunk driver does know or should know that driving when he's had 30 beers very likely could cause an injury or death to someone else.
-
Or should we just hope that another player doesn't get a broken neck. Comeon the officiating was so bad the NCAA had to change the rules and take the discretion away from the on-ice officials because of that hit.
-
I think your problem is with the officials that A) Saw the hit live and B) Had good video to judge it. The fact is in sports that if you let the guy get away with it he'll keep doing more. (Which in fact is what led up to Bina getting hurt, poor officiating in the game up to then.) I'm fine with the officials taking care of it but you should be upset with them. So to answer your example you've got a point, but if the guy keeps running you off the road sooner or later you're going to have to stick up for yourself.
-
I would blame the NHL for not suspending Moore for the cheap shot he threw on Marcus Naslund that led to Bertuzzi getting even with Moore. If they would have suspended Moore for a game or two then in my opinion there would have been no reason for Bertuzzi for going after Moore. It's really the same thing the leagues not doing their jobs protecting the players.

Check the record. He charged Bina with his back turned to him for the entire time. He knew that there was a delayed penalty (Adam was in his line of vision which would mean no hit was necessary as the play would stop as soon as Bina touched the puck). Bina was not moving and was standing that dangerous distance from the boards during the entire time that Paukovich was building up his charge. (30 feet?) Paukovich not only hit him with a ton of speed but he crouched before and extended (during) the hit in order to create the most possible force into him. Now I can't look into his head but I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that any hockey player knew that that hit with the opposing player in that position would very likely go head first into the boards with a large degree of force. Any informed look at the video will confirm those facts.
-
I think you and Dave are going to have to drop the gloves now. I hope you can shake hands with eachother when it's all over.
-
I thought that what he had coming to him was a suspension for the rest of that season and carry it into the fall. Much like Todd Bertuzzi's. We didn't get this but it helps.
-
Maybe he thinks once he states his opinion everyone elses is frozen out?
-
Well one would expect that if the league took care of these situations then there wouldn't be a need for the players to take care of it. In this case Don Adam gave Pakovitch 2 minutes when he saw the whole thing. The WCHA committee only suspended him for a game. That was the most flagrant intent to injure hit I've seen in my life and I watch a lot of hockey.
-
Now someone needs to see to Don Adam.
-
I don't know, if one is good 30 must be better. Just like beers.

You mess with the Sioux, sooner or later you're going to pay.
