  1. Its not a matter of being able to outbid someone. Its the fact that the NCAA will not allow us to host a home playoff game if we continue using the nickname and logo. That is why this is so damaging to the athletes. Add in the fact that we will start to see schools who won't want to schedule us because of this entire nickname-circus and its punishing the entire Athletic Department

Maybe we can worry about this if we ever get to the point where we could actually host a playoff game.

  2. I am one of those hockey types you are taking about. I think you should have all the facts. UND will not host another NCAA regional because of the NCAA's rule for neutral sites, so UND won't be missing out on any money through the ralph for either hockey or basketball. Question is with football - how much does the Alerus get vs UND?

Thank you for injecting reality into the conversation.

  3. I guess the most important thing is that the blown call didn't cost the Sioux the game....thankfully!!! However, it wasn't the only blown call all weekend.

I think you should complain all the more when a bad call didn't change the game. After all there's no way to claim that was just sour grapes.

And I don't think there is any excuse for screwing up a replay. I miss stuff live action the same as the referees. Of course missing stuff and just making it up out of thin air are a different thing.

    Things have to get better.

  4. The refs didn't review the goal because they said that without the replay on the big screen, they wouldn't have seen it go off the skate. If there hadn't been a replay, no one would have said anything. The coaches and players didn't react until seeing the replay, so they had to stick with their call. I still don't agree with it. I think anytime there is a scrum in front of the net and a puck crossing the goal line it should be reviewed, but they didn't feel that way. But that was the reason there was no review on the goal.

Wow, isn't the important thing to get the call right? I don't care if it was only because it was noticed on the big screen. The referee's job is to be watching it in the first place. They blew the call and had the chance to get it right.

  5. Looks like we're for sure going to make the tournament... making the Frozen Four involves a couple tournament wins, which have proven elusive for UND lately. ;)

OK, then a couple playoff wins and I get in the Sioux Sports suite.

    Sweet!

Just don't let goon in. He'll eat all of the fancy finger food you're paying for.

  6. Ryan Duncan was always known as a good guy during his time at UND...Always giving credit to his teammates, always had time for Sioux fans...It's no wonder he is my son's all time favorite player.

Two weeks ago, I sent him an email, care of his team overseas, and asked him for a note or picture for my son. Yesterday, we received a note, along with 2 signed hockey cards from Duncan. They will be proudly displayed with his Ryan Duncan-Hobey Baker puck in his room.

Thanks to Ryan; a good hockey player, but a better person! :)

    cool

Remember when he was mixing it up with a couple of those tree trunks from I think Cornell?

  7. Shouldn't all students pay the same?

Doesn't it cost the same to teach a student from North Dakota as it does from California?

It costs the same. The instate tuition is subsidized by the taxpayers who pay this to help our own kids. Why shouldn't the Californians pay what it costs to educate their own kids.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to help out the neighbors kids. I just don't think we can afford the huge subsidies that it takes to educate everyone else's.

Can UND really fill classes if they have unreasonable tuition for out of state students?

I don't think we should make money on the out of state students. They should just pay what it actually costs for their education.

  8. But our Universities will not fill up. UND's North Dakota resident undergraduate population is a mere 6500, less than half of undergrads.

I'm not against out of state students. I'm just don't see the advantage of paying for their education. Also don't you think the amount of money it costs us to educate the out of stater's.

Of course if we had a true reciprocity that was a breakeven I'd be more than happy to expand the opportunity for North Dakota kids.

  9. This isn't a bash Eidness thread nor should there be one, his is a good goalie. However, what always scared me was how he played the puck. He would come out way to far and have no sense of urgency when trying to play it to a forward. I can recall several near misses and a few ooops goals.

Last year Eids was 8th in the country in winning percentage and goals against. His save percentage was a bit lower, but his .914 put him at 23rd and he'd have to get to .919 to get to 11th.

And to top it off he led the country in minutes played.

So he was good, very good, last year.

  10. The SCSU Huskies are not a physical team and they seem to not want anything to do with UND"s physical game. The Huskies are a generic version of Minnesota's Pansies on Ice. They grittiest player might be facing a suspension?

    What happened now?

I'm surprised that the clownies have done as well as they have since they lost 3 players at the Christmas Tourney.

  11. To leave the state for higher paying jobs. Really it doesn't matter if ND kids are getting educated at ND schools or MN kids are getting educated at ND schools. Ulitmately the goal is to keep kids in ND.

The worry shouldn't be about where the kids are from, but where they go after UND.

I think our jobs will fill up just fine without subsidies to out of state students, but a compromise would be to rebate somebody's ND tuition if they stay in state. Paying a MN kid to go to school here and leave as soon as they graduate is bad economics.

For my two cents I don't have a problem with my neighbors kid leaving after school. I wish them the best in what ever they decide.
