  1. It also seems utterly clear that Adam et.al. felt they needed to toss one out to even things with RM's coach. But honestly, I thought they got the first no-goal call right (even when I try to be objective). Seems like more proof to me that the WCHA officiates by "eye for an eye" rather than calling the game as it's played in front of them.

Not to mention ignoring all the clutching, grabbing, and other infractions going on. The reffing last night was questionable at best.

I think they got the call right on the Morris disallowed goal. The RMU player went into the crease on his own. On the other hand the Sioux Dman did try to move him out slightly leaving a gray area of whether we contributed to the goalie interference or not.

But I expect that the fact that one had gone against RMU already was part of the nerve process ( I hesitate to call it thought process) that led to our disallowed goal.

  2. I don't buy the "They don't have enough looks" argument. The look that they had CLEARLY showed the puck entered the net. Hmmmm.....the crowd noise drowned out the whistle.....probably because the puck was already in the fricken net.

Horrible call by Adam.....but we already know he's a horrible official.

Not only did they have enough looks (1) they saw that the puck moved quickly off of the stick and into the net. There's no way the whistle could have blown that fast.

  3. Wasn't called a goal on the ice, and wasn't conclusive in review that the puck crossed the line before the whistle.

Wow, what an explanation, the crowd actually covered up the sound of the whistle when they roared when the puck crossed the line.

Um, the puck wasn't held up at all by the goalie so the whistle couldn't be a reason for a no goal.

Now the referee could have been screened by the pads on the bottom of the net and not seen the puck. What I'm trying to figure out is what that Lander guy is doing inside that little glass box under the big red light right behind the net is for. He would have had a perfect view of that puck going in.

Why even bother with goal judges?

  4. Does anyone know if there is a video of the ceremony anywhere? I missed the first part of the game and wanted to see it.

They should it on the TV schedule. When I get a chance I'll post it unless someone else hopefully beats me to it. (Won't be today.)

Touching that his daughter that was born after his accident was there.

  5. I can see that also but it is always good to have 2 goalies that are ready to go, never know when one may have a bad game or stretch or, hopefully not, get hurt. Nothing keeps you sharp like playing in a real game. Championship teams almost always have 2 goalies that can steal a game

I agree, there's a very good chance we're going to need Eids before the season is over. Besides, his play the last two years is worth some consideration.

  6. I think we'll see a different game tonight. The Sioux got a lot of bounces last night. If I recall on the TV broadcast the Sioux were getting outshot by quite a bit in the 2nd period last night but scored on their first 3 shots or something like that. I thought in large parts of the 2nd and most of the 3rd Robert Morris was playing a fairly good game. Good goaltending and good bounces for the Sioux made it a blowout. Do I think the Sioux were lucky? No. They had superior talent and they played well. But I don't think that was an 8-0 mismatch either.

We need to refocus today to keep from letting them into tonights game. Easier said than done.

  7. This might not be the best place for this question, but a number of you may be able to answer it. Last week, I spent three days in Blaine at the Schwanns rink for a high school girls tournament. On the Herb Brooks rink one evening, the women's national team played an exhibition game against a bunch of men who obviously had a lot of hockey experience. I think they were called the Minnesota development team, but I just stumbled on the game and can't be sure. Another spectator said the team was made up of former D1 players and some former pros who were part of the men's development program. There weren't any roster sheets, so I couldn't tell who was on the ice, though I suspect it included a lot of former gophers. Any of you familiar with this team (or program)?

    Many fights?

  8. Unfortunately, I was unable to make this trip. :( I have one of those proverbial upper body injuries--a broken rib--discovered this morning on an xray which was being taken while Al's bus as leaving for Duluth. I'm listening to Hennessey and hoping for a win.

I would have expected you to play through that injury.

Just kidding, hope it's not too painful.

  9. Lucky for you, you asked the question in the right place. I calculate PWR anytime there are games being played (though it isn't particularly well-defined until early November). You can always get the current one at http://siouxsports.com/hockey/rankings/pwr/ (or by clicking hockey/rankings/pairwise from the menus on the front page of SiouxSports).

However, I also save each week's ratings (PWR, RPI, KRACH, win/loss) from November onward. You can see the development of this seasons' PWR rankings here:

    http://siouxsports.com/hockey/rankings/charts.php?team=0&compare=top10&rating=pwr

The graph is of comparisons won, but hovering over each data point shows you the ranking, the date, and the results of the most recent games (if any) that contributed to that week's move.

There isn't a nifty drop down box for it (I need to redo that page to make the charts a bit better, they're on basically 5 year-old technology now), but you can view past years by appending &season=2009 (or other) to the end, e.g.:

    http://siouxsports.com/hockey/rankings/charts.php?team=0&compare=top10&rating=pwr&season=2009

I started saving the results in November from 2007 onward, but not until December for 2004-2006.

While we're on the topic, a mere couple hours before you asked, I also posted my first PWR analysis of the year Outlook for UND's end-of-year PWR.

Something you do to fill the hours between 3 and 5 am?

  10. I told them that rather than build a new baseball field they should make the HHH Metrodome a convertible indoor/outdoor stadium. Looks like someone sometime finally listened to me. :silly:

  11. Yes they do. I've a shirt tail relative that skates for them. I haven't read the article, but she had told my momma that there was a conscious effort to get

right solid skaters on the squad this year. They do a very nice job.

With the injuries we may need them in pads. :silly:

  12. Real points or do phantom assists count? Greg Johnson had more phantom assists than probably anyone ever in college hockey. The worst one I ever saw was Johnson came off the bench, never was in the play or even touched the puck, but still got an assist. That guy got assists for just being in the building when a goal was scored.

    You're full of it.
