  1. At work and went online to set my DVR to record the game on DirecTV. It shows that it's on channel 618, is that correct? It's usually on either 617 or 625 - never seen it on 618 before and if this doesn't record it I'll be a very unhappy Sioux hockey fan.

    Thanks

    617 on the on-screen guide.

Despite other reports as of right now the guide says tomorrow's game will be on 623. But they have the 7:30 start time on it now.

  2. On the game front, I agree with the first time poster Predator. UNO is going to bring it big time. This is well shaping up to be a barn burner of a series, and a barn burning rivalry for years to come. Especially after the Gophers pack their play toys and run to Barry's so-called Big Ten Hockey Conference. The Big Mistake.

I'm pretty sure that Blais (tDean) absolutely positively doesn't want to be swept on his first trip back.

Look for UNO to come out hard.

  3. I think LaPoint has been as solid defensively as anyone this year. He's really gotten better with his footwork and breakout passes, and the best part is he knows the perfect times to jump into a play without being too aggressive. He doesn't have the hardest or most accurate shot, but he's created some nice chances offensively, and like I said before, has held his own quite nicely defensively. If anything, I think Marto has been a disappointment at defense while back there. He's been a bit sloppy at times, and wasn't creating much offensively for a guy with as much skill as him while playing the defensive position.

I don't think you'll see Hak sit LaPoint.

LaPoint is +8, tied with Gennoway for 2nd in plus Minus for defensemen. Ben Blood leads the team at +16.

Plus/Minus is a very good indication of play by a defenseman, especially for a defensive minded defenseman like LaPoint.

Notable leaders in plus/minus are the Pony Express line. Trupp 12, Malone and Frattin 11.

Brett Hextall and Corban Knight are plus 8.

  4. In my humble opinion, strength of schedule should definitely remain a significant factor.

Absolutely. The best prediction of the strength of a team is how well they've done against good teams, not that they beat the Weak Sister of the ECAC*.

*I'm sure they are a fine school for English Majors.

  5. Here's my take: the Pairwise only matters on the day the tournament field is chosen and seeded. It has absolutely no bearing on any other day of the year.

I suppose one could argue that expanding the TUCs might influence how a team schedules non-conference opponents, but aside from that the Pairwise "rules" have nothing to do with actually playing hockey.

I agree and I'll also note that most of the concerns we talk about during the year have worked themselves out by the day that the PWR actually counts. The PWR sucks because it makes no sense on how they pick their criteria, but it does work reasonably well.

  6. It's not like they are changing the rules of the game.

No team would've played a game any differently had they known this was going to happen.

No but if they can change halfway through the season you could wonder who [is] out that the committee wants in?

It shouldn't affect our team. If we fall so far in the remaining months that we are on the bubble we don't deserve to make the tournament. But I'd hate to be a team on the bubble that gets kicked out because of a mid season rule change?

  7. IMO Trupp has been playing at an extremely high level. His forecheck will be greatly missed next year.

Trupp has been awesome this homestand. I can't believe how fearless he is for a guy his size to play along the boards.

  8. I ran the numbers after including all games that were dropped due to a team defeating another team and having their R.P.I. go down. Yale is still in front of UND with an R.P.I. of .6057 to UND's .5921. I have an excel sheet that shows all 58 teams with these games included, but can't find a way to paste it on here and have it keep its formatting. If anybody knows of a way to paste an excel file on here let me know, or I can email it to somebody and they can put it on here for me.

Well there goes that theory. Still it cuts our deficit in nearly half.

Still if an unbiased person were going to pick a head to head matchup who do you think they'd pick?

  9. If I am correct Yale got beat today by Brown. We will see if they loose any ground in the polls. It appears as though they are holding steady in the Pairwise and KRACH at 1.

In order to keep their number one ranking those with a vote would have to believe that Brown > Minnesota. *

Ok, I can stand being a number two for another week.

(*that's a stretch, but it makes the joke work.)

  10. After seeing Bemidji State (CHA), and RIT (Alantic Hockey) make the frozen four recently and then getting beat by Yale last year in the regionals it shows that you can't take any team lightly and you better come with your best game every night once the playoffs start. Competition may make our team better but we have to use those experiences to beat teams we should beat. No taking periods off once we get to the playoffs like we did the first 1.5 periods against Yale last year.

Absolutely, even in the pros it's not uncommon for the #8 team to beat a #1 team in the playoffs. Of course during a seven game series they usually don't make it.

  11. it not only hurts when I LOL, it also hurts when I cry.

The teacher wrote on the blackboard: "I ain't had no fun in months." Then asked the class, "How should I correct this sentence?"

Little Johnny raised his had and replied, "Get yourself a new boyfriend."...

A priest was talking to a group of kids about "being good" and going to heaven. At the end of his talk, he asked, "Where do you want to go?"

    "Heaven! Heaven!" Yelled Little Lisa..

"And what do you have to be to get there?" asked the priest.

    "Dead!" Yelled Little Johnny.

    goren can still score!

Looks like Mike Prpich has only played half of the games this year. Must be an injury as he's still #5 in scoring and #3 in penalty minutes for his UK team.

  13. From the INCH chat... I like how this guys thinks... :)

    Classic understatement right there...

And two fewer losses. (And two fewer tires).

Maybe Yale is a good team, but there's no way to compare the schedule that we've played and the schedule they've played (34 hardest) and say that they are definitively the better team.

    Bring on the rematch.

  14. The key this weekend is all about intensity. Can the Gophers match what the Sioux will surely bring. Watching the games this weekend against Robert Morris and how the Sioux brought it without the fans really into it, you know its going be a good weekend. This rivalry the past 2-3 seasons has been basically one sided on intensity, so I look for the Sioux to continue the trend.

I think we'll see a 6-2 win Friday night for the Sioux in white and a 3-2 win for the Sioux in BLACK! Dell of course both nights. As long as the Sioux can put home 3+ its a win for the Sioux at home with Dell. He's just so consistent. Gophers have had issues matching our energy and I'd be really surprised to see them match it this weekend.

I can see us coming out flying and the Goophers flat on Friday and then us struggling while the Goophers play for what pride they can muster on Saturday night. I still see us winning but it will not be easy.
