Looking for our 3rd quality Win.  NDSU, then I am going to count Northern AZ as a quality W. (Northern AZ beat Griz and Weber, 1 point loss to Sac St)  We might have 1 in the dumpster dive term of Quality Losses with the Coyotes.  All of our other losses are non-quality losses, or just sucked.

I believe when it comes to "quality losses" the score is not that important, it is more about ranking at the time. At least for other schools.

Really curious to see all your thoughts on this.  Assuming UND could get him, and at a price within our budget, would you guys want him?

    That is beyond random.

I don't see any reason to expect we shouldn't sell out the Alerus Center given that NDSU could draw 18-19 K and UND can sell 11.5K twice a weekend for hockey.  For that to happen, UND needs more buy-in from casual sports fans and hockey fans.  I think that is happening, slowly.  Finally getting an NDSU win will help in the long run with the casual fans.

Most of the schools you're referring to also have much larger stadiums though.  Not really a ton of apples to apples comparisons from stadium/program/institution standpoint across the FCS.  Idaho may be the closest comparison, maybe?  UND's FB program is extremely unique when you compare us to other schools across the national landscape.

College football attendance is hard to figure out. Last week attendance at the USD game was what I would consider abysmal for a top 10 team that was 3-8 last year. Last year was the first time in 8 years that FCS attendance was up (5%). If winning could push UND attendance up that same 5% that would only be an additional 500 fans (based on current average of 9,500) hardly noticeable. It's a trend and just about every school is facing it.

Chaves should pay attention to what the average fan thinks

keep losing games and attendance will drop

    2000 less fans per game is $50,000 x 5 = $250,000 per year

win and add 2000 per game and you add $250,000 per year

    really simple math for Chaves

why do you think they lower prices on certain weekends for hockey, A $15 ticket for 3000 fans who wouldn’t buy a $40 ticket makes sense on a thanksgiving or New Years weekend when students are gone .

Is it realistic to think that UND football could sell out the Alerus every game, we are currently averaging around 9,500 attendance. What percentage of teams in the top 20 sell out every home game - SDSU does not.

On an individual level, depends on your donation level. I would think Chaves absolutely would care about the sentiment of the fan base. IMO, things feel different this year, than it has previously. I think the tide has turned on Bubba.*

*I said this yesterday, it'll take something (playoff win or two), to change that.

"The fan base" spends little time thinking about the football team other than game days. They attend home games which are 99 percent wins. Beating SU was another step. If I was a fan that found no joy in UND football I would find something else to do on Saturdays (and the every waking hour spent spewing negativity on a fan site).

I enjoy tailgating before games as much as anybody.

I enjoy meeting people at tailgating.

I am well aware that the world doesn't stop spinning on its axis if we don't win.

I am all for enjoying life while we are alive (the recent loss of Katie Richards hammers that home).

But that is not what this thread or forum is about.

This thread is about the 2023 FB season and where we stand as a team and a program.

And the biggest problem with our program is not people like @UND-FB-FAN or myself. It is posts and attitudes like this, where 7-4 is considered good enough and we shouldn't say one negative thing about it. It is attitudes like this that convince people like Chaves and Armacost that a change is not needed and everything is just fine as it is. It is this same philosophy that has held back all our non-hockey programs for the past 15 years (ever since we moved up from D-II to D-I). The attitude of "I don't like we lost, but these are just 'student-athletes', so it doesn't really matter if we win or lose" is simply not appropriate for a Division I collegiate athletics program like UND.

This is not high school, where if the team never wins anything, it doesn't matter. And as long as we keeping running this athletic department like that, we will continue experiencing more of the same around here.

If you want to focus on having a positive attitude about life in general, go read Zig Ziglar.

Because that is not what this forum is about. This is the toy department of life. And it is not asking too much to expect something decent under the tree once in awhile.

Thankfully UND has fans like you to balance out fans like me.

  7. So far I have made 8 of the 10 games (last year I made 7) The results have not always been to my liking but it's a game to me and I enjoy the tailgating, the road trip and meeting people at the event. I saw 7-4 in this season with a loss to Moo U, so there was a step up. Of course I would like better but I still enjoyed the season because every year the number of seasons I have left to enjoy goes down by one.

  8. I was there for the USD blow out in 2017 I'll be there this year. If it's the same layout they have a nice mowed field for day-of tailgating and there was a good number of UND fans. The odds are against us, but that is why they play the game.

  9. Prior to the start of the season 6-3 is right where most would have seen this team. FCS game does not count against us and our two losses are "quality losses" in the eyes of the committee. Even if we split, based on Montana hosting a first round last year, UND should be hosting first round.

In the 2 main polls 5 or 6 teams ranked ahead of us lost yesterday. We should move up 2 or 3 spots. We should be back ahead of the team to the south again. The fact that the team to the south lost to all 3 Dakota schools might end up biting them. Just have to see how the next 2 weeks play out. We need to at least win one game. 2 wins would be huge. If we lose both games nothing matters.

Could be four teams at 7-4 in MVFC and SU could be the odd man out based on head to head and SOS. If UND finishes 7-4 we should make the cut, barring backdoor deals. Of course 8-3 is still possible to remove all doubt.

If NDSU wins out and we lose to USD but make playoffs and go on the road and go to NDSU, it's likely an SulU win and not very close. Maybe my opinion will change after the USD game though....but we'll see.

Although I did have to screen shot his post as was a pretty good one! :D

Only way we go on the road to SU would be a second round match up. However if both teams are 7-4 UND would be the higher seed and host. I see there are several teams playing the "our best players are hurt" card. Selection Committee Chairman said in an interview that sometimes that does come into play.

  12. Now would be a good time to sign up for Midco Sport Plus. The UND/MS game is on. You could watch SDSU boat race NDSU and the UND MBB and WBB season is just starting. We need to support them more than ESPN+ .

If we finish 7 and 4 we more than likely will still make playoffs but will go on road. Believe it or not the thrashing of NDSU will carry a lot of weight. But let’s just go 8 and 3 and get a couple home games maybe. At least one home game.

The Committee owes us a home game. Both they and Patty know it. SUs Larson is under the microscope. She already called him incompetent out loud.

You should explain to him what he should’ve done since you seem to be a expert at running the ball! How about the fact that the players were wearing cleats instead of Turf shoes? Maybe that had something to do with it? I’ll ask you since your the expert.

The carpet in the UNIDome is the same as in the DakotaDome so some expert here please share their source on "wearing the wrong shoes".  We've played in the DakotaDome several times in the past few years.

You obviously weren't around when not so long ago a 5 yard swing pass was 50/50. Never thought I'd see the day that a "fan" b*tched about an upcoming game we are expected to dominate.
