It’s been quiet on women’s basketball front on what’s happening for preparation this coming year. Do we have full team here this summer practicing and doing conditioning for this coming year. The Summit conference has such turnover in players and coaches this off season. We had coaching changes ORU, Omaha, and UND plus all these teams have had big player movement through the portal plus South Dakota, Denver, and KC have had significant to large transfer of players. NDSU has lost very few players to portal as well as ST. THomas but both have added players through the portal. But it will be interesting to see how these teams progress this year I think NDSU may have some difficulties team chemistry on who will be team leaders and if there is enough time and basketball to be shared with this group with no senior leadership. Finally SDSU did loose couple players through the portal but appear to have found help in portal but they will be missing loss senior graduation and finding new point guard. My guess one teams with big turnover may be sleeper by end of year to compete with latter three. My hope it’s us and we can finally be considered one of the top in the conference. I think that St. Thomas and SDSU are teams everyone will be chasing by end of the year with NDSU that could be there also but I have feeling expectations for this team in Fargo is going to fall short when all things are done.
I like wearing kelly green glasses but realistically would be satisfied with an improvement over last year and a surprise top 4 finish. As Dave Gunther said "hustle and defense win" they might be able to steal a few games if they achieve that. Long term I'm just fine. Grand Forks is willing to come out for a winner so hopefully the fans return over the next few years.

Ron was a big UND booster throughout his life. A very enjoyable obituary. He did have a room filled with mounted wild game. I'll be attending the celebration of his life in full Sioux attire.

Again, I didn't look that closely at the list and I don't care what teams were on it. I'm just saying, UND was not good, what have we done to earn it apart from the offseason changes? Which I personally think will pay off big time for us! I think we will be good enough, my point was just that from the outside looking in, we have done nothing to be considered for that .
I agree however the guys running the podcase from their basements have proven they like to diss UND whenever possible. As I shared there are teams with worse records than us in that list - the only thing they have done to elevate themselves is on paper - and not being UND. Also agree that pre-season polls means nothing they are just filling time.

I couldn’t agree more! Watched the replay of the NDSU game on Midco the other day and it just baffled me to why he didn’t see the field until the end of the 1st quarter. Completely different game when he is pounding the rock.
Think he had a few dings so they were trying to limit the hits. It worked out.

I really do appreciate the type of coverage that Miller and UND360 deliver. They don't blow smoke, and they tell it like it is. The roster is not close is what we've gathered from them. I would really like to clarify. Not close to what? Championship caliber? 2nd Round type of team? Playoff caliber? In comparison to last year?
I'm going to fill in the gaps a bit from what I'm hoping they mean, which is not close to championship caliber. Which I think is accurate, but I think they are really undervaluing a few things.
- State of the FCS. IMO, this will be the weakest the elite of the FCS has ever been. NDSU most likely will win it all again this year, this won't be a Top 10 team they've had in the D1 era. Each level (Top 4, Top 8, Top 15) will be the weakest it's ever been.
- UND's off-season (compared to other MVFC teams). I think they did the best retaining starters out of any team. Fine with portal additions. Compared to previous years UND teams, this was the best off-season they've had in the portal era.
- Coaching. This is where I'm buying the most stock. From X's and O's to team mentality. It's going to be a night and day difference. Not only is Schmidt the real deal, but I think we'll also find out that Bubba was incredibly bad at it all.
- Defense. No detail needs to be given, really. The last 3 years have been beyond embarrassing.
Do I think they'll compete for a National Championship? Probably not, but also, we're not looking at a handful of teams that are going to be head and shoulders above the rest like we have in the past.
Another thing is that teams knew how to prepare for Bubba's teams and the strong to comparable teams did. They won't have any tape on this year's team until deeper in the season. Losses to lower tier schools are flipped (like Youngstown State and Indiana State last year) and we are 7-5, squeak out one more and we are back.

Let's looks at last year:
- Played tough against Iowa State, but lost
-Nice win against Montana
-Ended the season with 5 straight losses including Youngstown and Indiana State.
5-7 never deserves to be in the discussion for top 25 (unless maybe you are UNI). They dug a big hole, now they have to get out of it. I for one absolutely think they can get it done and that it doesn't all need to happen in the first season. There are some exciting things happening with recruiting, facilities, etc. But nobody is putting a poll together based on the potential of a 5-7 team with a new coach (unless maybe its coach prime 😂)
In general, I would say, polls don't matter anyway ... except that where you start makes it tough to move up, but if you win some key games ... nothing is off the table. I'm just excited for camp to get going so we can hear how some of these guys are looking, especially at QB.
there are schools on that list that finished worse than 5-7. they always say you have to earn it. Tell me how Youngstown State and Sacramento State "earned' it.

So you feel they are paying for something over and above what the contracts states, with public money?
My point was it's not uncommon for a host team to pay for additional expenses above the game guarantee. Not saying it happened but it does.

How many are bus trips? Like USD getting 575k to bus to Ames. The fact this was never renegotiated is astounding.
I hesitate to keep this thread going but isn't it possible KState is paying for UNDs transportation and accommodations?

So last year all but one home game was at noon - this year none are. Does that mean there is no football/hockey double headers this year?

Not one of the "Top 15 Returning FCS Quarterbacks in 2025" apparently. Not surprised considering he is likely going to be listed 3rd on the depth chart; If he even stays a QB.
With his moves and passing ability why couldn't he be the new Brockstar?

It looks like UND left some money on the table with the FBS/A4 Games this year:
Other Dakota FCS/FBS A4 Games
North Dakota at Kansas State $475,000
South Dakota at Iowa State $575,000
Other Peer Schools:
Youngstown State at Michigan State $725,000
Montana State at Oregon $680,000
Idaho at Washington State $625,000
Weber State at Arizona $625,000
How many years has Kansas State been on the schedule vs when the others were scheduled - that might be one reason.

Idk what the plan is with this but when I first saw it, I assumed it would be more similar to whatever the Jacks have that got them those white helmets. A player led organization. Would seem odd to compete with the 1883 imo
IMO a lot of 1883 will be going to hockey (since it can be designated), so this is a good idea. Lots of football alumni out there that hopefully will step up.

They sure are. I hope we can get the some away game fan support for the ladies like Hockey has a huge group of fans that travel.
Well they do play a series of game every week right - so it could be worth a road trip.

If you're Craig why would you rank us going into next year?
Could ask the same question about Sac State and Southern Illinois.
SI's two "biggest" games are Southwest Missouri and Youngstown State. How do those measure up to NDSU, USD and SDSU?
I agree with the saying "You have to earn respect" but until last year we were right up there for previous years. Why doe Sac State and SI get to hand around after basically the same year as we had last year. Agreed pre-season means nothing and certainly not to the players, but it would be nice to get a footnote once in awhile.

We aren't on this list. Hoping this is the last time we are not on this list going forward. Our schedule is tough this year with going to K State snd Montana on the road early on. Would definitely turn some heads if we can pull off an upset at Montana.
Craig Haley will deny it and even make money off a t-shirt, but he ignores UND every year. Pure conjecture on Sac State and if a team like Youngstown or Southern Ill brought in the transfers we did he would instantly be calling them "teams to watch".

It's quite clear that Schmidt was 100% the right choice to be UND's head coach, amazing change in just a few months. Many did not want another UND guy, but sure looks like they got it right.
I once read that when you make a coaching change it needs to be one that flips the coaching philosophy, mentality and intensity - the MN Vikings are a good example over their past coaching changes. Nothing wrong with either style, but I would say UND hit the nail with their change.

My 10 posts are with merit and are the truth from the inside as opposed to all these wack conspiracy theories I see on here everyday. Whatever, y’all can believe whatever you want. Jocie doesn’t say more than 2 words ever and is the sweetest human being. UND failed her and the others. When nothing changes- it stays the same. You can thank the president and Chaves.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- the head coach was the cause of all of this. Had she been fired earlier, most of the 8 who left would have stayed.
But it’s all good, because they now see what a shitshow UND actually was and how the grass is GREENER- Other schools will utilize, value, and treat them so much better and not run them into the ground.
Oh AND all with added NIL- something UND cannot offer.Keep up with your pipe dream fantasy that this program will ever compete for the best players.
Based on their on court performance and how fast the new coaching staff has moved forward, most fans are accepting that those eight have moved on.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced that 106 players have filed as early entry candidates for NBA Draft. Treysen Eaglestaff was among the names listed. He has until June 15th to withdraw. #ITANativeSports
Hope he has someone looking out for his best interests.

It didn't take the coaching staff or the fans long to move on from the players that left.

I like that Hutter has aggressively put together roster that appears to have talent and is young yet in that they have time to develop that talent here at North Dakota. He also has added couple of veteran players that should help leadership and knowing what it takes in playing full college season.. He also at same time got his coaching staff filled so they are already to start on developing this team. Two years ago it took Mallory until late summer to put her coaching staff together and then fired all them after the year. I agree this aggressive approach is also show with the players in that getting themselves ready by using this off-season time to develop their skills and work on their fundamentals. It appears to me there is going to be competition among players fighting for playing time and each of them getting better because each of them will be pushing each other to get more playing time. Now we will see how well he did in putting right pieces together to be able to compete in the Summit but this is optimistic I have been in over 10 years we are finally have mentality that we want to win now and believe we can compete win not in couple years but right now..
I wish Mal the best and I have nothing to base this on other than Hutton's success at Mayberry U, but I feel more confident that this coaching staff will be able to coach up the players they recruit. In addition they are recruiting players that fit their philosophy and plan.

Was told by the parents of one of our specialists is that Kostich told their son that he wants to find his guy for each position and build on them. No matter what you think of Kostich IMO our special teams are pretty good and have helped win games over his tenure.
