I was corrected earlier by another on trannsfers for women’s basketball of UND transfer we have only three transfers that have moved on to another division I in last 7 or 8 years. The majority of players that have moved on went to division II level or never played again. I have theory on this majority of our players are at lowest level of division I level unless you have demonstrated above level skills other division I teams are reluctant to take risk on giving scholarship or money to these players. The three I know of that moved on two had above average performance and were both had length demonstrated they could play inside. The other was freshman player that had three years and maybe four depending on exception and it was program struggling at present time . The question now comes for our current crop of transfers we have three players that have now demonstrated above average skills that could be attractive to other division I teams but at what level. If my guess the one with highest level division I maybe Ibrahim but she is still diamond in the rough and can she continue improve but I have doubts she needs playing time something teams investing money in player don’t want to have to do they want performance now. Second Pemberton will she be able perform her offense ability at next level she may not be one or two option can she play that kind of rolll. My guess she would be looked at top small midmajor or next level conference like Missouri Valley. Then comes Schiller still very young and put up very good numbers but if I would be skeptical if top division I schools would sign her to be their top point guard because of her size and other physical attributes, can she translate to next level. Some may offer but she would not be guaranteed playing time. I think she will move laterally or maybe to just next level up in midmajors. The other girls transferring I believe will end up in division II or not find a spot on team. The only one that may get division I offer would be Horne or she end up in Canada playing at top level their. I probably catch lot of flack for my thoughts on this group of transfers but I look at number of transfers in system everyone thinks there endless possibilities but fact is transfer only very few will see positive outcome from transferring.
And based on most recent years - this team has nowhere to go but up.

I suppose they will wait and see what interest is in them and from where
Most are in for a surprise, as a majority who have entered the portal have discovered. However, as has been shared, the team is better off for the future with some of them gone.

Surprised he went that far away
At that level it could include plane tickets for his family for games. Really hope he has his academics on track for his future.

In that the MVFC has its share of Haves and Have Nots, it could not be difficult to flip last year and get back into the playoffs. Even with the challenges of the defense several of the games were winnable. Very predictable that bandwagon fans will be back quickly.

I am conceding that the silence from the team's current players in the portal means none of them are changing their minds?

I'm fine with this hire, however can someone explain the benefit of going through the expense and administrative tasks of doing an national search when you have the next coach on staff - were they hoping someone better would apply?

Figures. About the time I write a long, boring post including the following: "The really unique thing about AJ's teams is the lack of athletes transferring out," I turn on the 6 pm local news only to hear two players on SDSU's women's team entered the portal. One is Hallie Timmer, a starter and an important part of the Jacks' success. The other is freshman Jenna Hopp. Hopp showed a lot of promise in her limited minutes. I've heard Timmer will graduate this spring and will pursue a Master's degree and wants to try playing on a different team.
Not as painful when a player transfers for academic goals or it's a freshman who wants more playing time. What UND fans are worried about would be scorched earth.

Athletes stay after entering the portal all the time.

So did the ladies leave because Mal was coaching or because she was being let go, how did the ladies know Mal would step down ?
Dad of player Is quoted as saying they filed the paperwork before the coaching change was announced. Having eight players leave was probably the reason Mal stepped down. Hoping there is a chance some change their mind. Several on that list have played their last D1 basketball game.

Every great coach at the top started in the lower classifications, seem to remember Mayville had a pretty good men's basketball coach that is now in the big leagues. There has been much discussion about grabbing an up and comer - Hutton could be the one.

Nothing wrong with that recruiting radius for UND.

SDSU doesn't take transfers. Coach commits to his recruits and hopes they reciprocate. It's worked very well for him, obviously.
Helps to keep players when you can pitch the Summit League home court advance and make the tournament just about every year.

Before or After it doesn't matter. Unless the 8 are puling there names out they don't want to play for the new coach.
Don't you think Hutton will be having meetings with each of these players this week? It's not difficult to change your mind about the portal.

Even if next few seasons are rebuilding from the ground up we would have been looking at the same records if they would have stayed status quo - at least there is path forward. I wonder about the future of most mid major basketball teams for support. If you watch the road games their gyms are empty, when the older generation fans are gone there is no one to replace them.
Think I read that every player on SDSUs women's team is from within 500 miles of Brookings - just sayin.

Gottta think that money was on the table before the coaching change was announced.

Same guy who told me an hour ago Mallory was out, said 8 girls going into portal.
Only one or two that would be real losses.

He took a redshirt year, didn't love the school, who knew academics were emphasized at Cal? 😉

Schloss makes the comment that UND just fired the most successful coach on campus. Which in my opinion says more about athletics as a whole. If your best coach gets fired what does that have to say about the rest of them
IMO if any of the other sports had the resources and funding of hockey they would be much more successful.

Showing my age here but history shows that the media (and especially the GF Herald) thought hiring Gino was an epic mistake. Look it up.

Hope springs eternal. Football has gone from being the bane of the athletic department to the one with the highest hopes for the future.

Not making excuses , I don’t know if he should stay or go
just the way I see it
what is your magic solution to win?
I watched a pod cast with Trey and he said he wanted to leave last year but Sather said he should stay and develop another year so he did
trey talked about how much he loved Sather
Well at least we know Sather was planning on not having him next year. What did Trey develop? It was not his defense or his physique.

At least one went to camp at SU, they thought he had enough talent to invest some time and money in him. Perhaps he committed before they could make their offer?
