  1. Amusing to read comments like: "Danny isn't the one", "Bubba's facial expressions show disarray" "The team is playing scared" "We missed a kick fire the special team coach". This is what you get with an open forum, but there are some that think they have it figured out from their arm chair.

A question I have about this season is how did someone decide that Q is our superman - He is a likeable guy and he has talent but it seems like he figures in to about 25% of our offensive plays. Don't we have a lot of talent in our TEs and WRs that could be in the mix? I will say I believe in our coaches and they see them everyday.

I've talked about this before, but it just feels like a high-stakes year for the program. You can feel the frustration from the fanbase. As much as things feel off right now, the hope has to be that UND just got the best team in the FCS (which is true) A+ game on the road. Next three games feel like it's make or break for Bubba. Where I'll disagree with some is I think an 8-3 record would be a success, but with how uninspiring and frustrating the Boise State / SDSU games have been, the NDSU game is feeling more and more like a must win.

Perhaps, but this site in no way reflects the fan base.

So, here's what we know so far:  We are much better than some FCS teams at home.  We are long ways off from a household name FBS team on the road.  We are also a long ways off from the best FCS team on the road.  I think pretty much everyone figured we'd be 2-2 at this point, but I know all were hoping for better.  I'm sure we'll beat up W. Ill. at home next week, and then onto NDSU at home.  That game is a must win to have any sort of good feeling for the future.  Even at 8-3 (which is looking less and less likely as we see the product on the field) means little to no progress is being made.  I hope Bubba retires at the end of the season, regardless of final record.  Even if we go farther than we've ever gotten before, he can hang his hat on that.

Also, I've been a pretty big Tommy cheerleader, but this should be his last season.  Maybe he doesn't even complete it.  Who knows.  Thank him for coming to campus last minute and helping build a program, celebrate his vast record book, but say it's time to take the next step for the program.

As for HC, I don't know.  Had been thinking Danny was pretty much the shoe-in, but he seems to have the same yips as Bubba.  A complete gut job seems harsh, but do we have the best we can get at this level?  At some point, somebody's gotta recruit the guys who are going to take down the big guns.  We need to be the big guns that opponents want a shot at.

Decisions change but Tommy did say on camera that he is coming back next year.

So Yotes can get to 6 wins pretty easily.

Just win one between YSU, SDSU, UND, and SIU and they are playoff bound.

Oh, 3 of those 4 games are at home.

Getting in with 6 wins has happened, but rare, gotta believe that 7 wins is the new bar going forward as the Selection Committee is put under the increased scrutiny for their decisions. MVFC deserves five spots but politics says if SDSU, NDSU and SIL are the top 3 then UND, YSU, UNI and USD are fighting for the same playoff spot.

If you are referring to me, I definitely was not complaining about trick plays. (For the record, you thinking I was was not my take, either.)  I hope to God you don't consider me one of the "usual suspects" though.  Ouch.

I do not, they self identify.

I mean, it depends on what your team is made of.  If you are the superior team, then, no, you probably don't need trick plays.  Just come at them with your superior stuff.  If you are equals, but your trick play(s) is/are superior to the opponent's, then you deserve to win.  If you are not the superior team, then, yes, you probably need a few trick plays to win the game.  That doesn't mean that you didn't deserve it, though.  Make plays to win the game.

I know that SDSU ran trick plays last year - wasn't one of them against SU and it made Sports Center. Complaining about trick plays is bush.

Saw the Herald story and have since got a chance to talk to Coach Motherwell - he is back for his family and because of his close relationship with Mallory.  He said it actually went very well at Central Michigan especially recruiting. If anything I'd say he is giving UND another chance as opposed to administration giving him another chance.  Either way this is a coup by and/or good luck for Mallory.  It looks as though she/they are getting pretty aggressive recruiting again!

Talked to him recently, very excited to be back and yes it was his move based on family first. Reality is he is head coach material so he will be on many lists but we will have him for awhile until his nest gets empty.

FBS vs FCS and FCS vs NAIA one week apart from each other.  The drop-off from the top to the bottom is astounding.

Hopefully UND is busy focusing on upcoming FCS opponents instead of worrying about the woulda, coulda, and shoulda of Boise State.

The coaches and team always talk about the 24 hour rule - after 24 hours they move on (edited). They have moved on. Some here never will.

  9. 24 hours - the team has moved on we should too. Barring an epic upset we will be 2-2 many on here can save time and just cut and paste their current postings. I enjoy the game, I support UND, I am looking forward to a fun season and making numerous road trips, because it's a game played by student athletes that chose to attend UND.

I disagree with this statement.. I think there are at least 4 that would win (NDSU, SDSU, MSU, Sac State) and another 5+ that "could" win.. Boise was very beatable yesterday.  I aso dont understand the statement of UND being where they or us want them to be.  They certainly arent where I want them to be.. and Im reasonably confident that they arent where most of us want them to be including Bubba.  I would have been much happier this morning if our losing effort didnt include the special teams struggles and the turnovers.

My hope is that these issues are all fixable issues (botched snaps / missed xtra points / turnovers), and that this was the teams bad game on the road this year.  Tommy and the offense are way better than they showed yesterday.. the defense looks like its continuing to improve and its time to have a great game down at SDSU.

It was a typo (we are not where we want to be(.

  11. So last week when Montana State lost to SDSU the case was made that because they were a lower rank they should not go down in the polls. I'll bet a lot of money that the analogy will never be written in any of the FCS podcasts/Twitter/websites about UND losing to Boise.

  12. We all know the number of FCS teams that could go into Boise and win are around two. And we all agree that right now UND is not (typo edited,) where they or us want them to be. Dang I hope this thread follows the UND Football 24 rule - which means 24 hours after every game we MOVE ON.

Here are some pics. Some like to complain about whomever, but well planned nice event with a good turnout. They even had the band march down the street an hour into the gathering.....to have  everyone come outside. They had UND necklaces and pompom cheer things to give away to people.  Was a fun night!

Have to admit in the past few years UND has stepped up their support of football on the road. Seems like there is more online video programming this year also?

Ranking if we win? Ranking if we lose?

The chairman of the FCS Selection Committee said in a podcast last year that losing to an FBS team does not affect your selection possibility, winning would help of course. Then again there is the "Montana Clause" which means if you are Montana nothing else matter.

But somehow walking down a tunnel (something they do no matter what) with a camera showing you on the big board and running out an inflatable helmet is more distracting??

I'm not seeing your point on how getting rid of those two things makes the players more focused and prepared for a football game.

I am all in on the helmet and tunnel camera, someone must have thought it was an issue.

But then decided it was a better idea to have the players run out with 100 Nodak flags??? I'm sure that really gets the guys focused and ready for the game!

Picking up a flag and running out to the field is about as mild as it gets.
