I think he actually makes more money than Tupac did. But if UND were going to pay at a level more commensurate with what it's going to take to be competitive in volleyball, I think he'd be an excellent candidate.

O.K., I think we were just talking about two different things. I was looking at it more from the standpoint of the fact that towns in Minnesota in that 50,000 to 80,000 range typically seem to just have one public high school, whereas that's not the case in North Dakota. The hypothetical of one school in GF, let alone adding in EGF, is an interesting conversation in terms of hockey, but I think we all realize it's never going to happen.

I think he'll play some against teams with a true 5. I'm just not sure how many of them there are anymore. I could be wrong, though.

That's undoubtedly true, but isn't that the case in Moorhead right now? Not to say it's right or wrong, I'm just curious if that's something many people complain about there? Or maybe people just know the deal, and kids go to Shanley, for example, if there's a question about whether they're going to make the team for Moorhead?

Assuming there's a new coach next season, I just hope it's either an NSIC head coach, or a Big 10 assistant with ties to the upper midwest. There are enough good players within an eight hour drive of Grand Forks to field a competitive team year in and year out. I just don't think the coaches since Hardee have believed that, and we've seen the results. Minnesota is considered one of the top states for high school volleyball. The next coach needs to recruit there much, much better.

I know others have made this point over the years, but it bears repeating--Moorhead's enrollment is roughly the same as Central and Red River combined. I assume that's why at the bantam level, the Grand Forks Aviators compete very favorably with all the usual MN powers, but at the high school level it's not quite the same because the talent gets split in Grand Forks, whereas it does not at the larger MN schools.

Anybody know why Micah didn't play last night? If Natsvlishvili can provide the kind of production he did last night on a semi consistent basis (10 points, 7 boards), that would be outstanding. I think the rotation of Uelmen, King, Anderson, Marley, Guga, Micah, Kraft and Smith, by the end of the season, could be a pretty decent team.

Yes, she’s been at Concordia in Moorhead for awhile. Unfortunately, it’s not going great, at least in terms of wins and losses.

What is the story with the coach at Concordia-St. Paul? He's been there forever, and has won at an absurd rate. Does he just not want to go anywhere else? By the way, their best player Makenna Nold, the league MVP as a sophomore, is from Jamestown and has family ties to UND. Might have been smart to offer her.

Assuming no upsets in the MVFC this weekend, you are potentially going to have UND, USD, YSU and ISU-red all having basically the same record. UND beat YSU. YSU beat ISU-red. ISU-red beat USD. USD beat UND. So wouldn't that essentially cancel out head-to-head as a big factor in seeding MVFC teams other than NDSU? I believe that's what happened last year when seeding NDSU, SDSU and USD, because they were all 1-1 against the other two.

I agree, and am concerned about this happening. UND really needs to beat SDSU by more than USD did. We had much performances vs. NDSU and several other common opponents. I just hope Larsen's absence from the committee helps us in that regard, because you know we'd get no favors if he were still around.

I'm just curious who was expected to score who hasn't been? Coming into the season, I thought in a best case scenario that Demers, Aumer and Hughes might collectively score 30. They're at 25 so far, so it's still possible they could get there. Ava Miller is scoring about 10 per game, and I think it's safe to say she's exceeding all reasonable expectations. That means the rest of the team needs to combine for about 30-35 points to have much of a chance to win, and they're not coming close to that.

The status of Sather is obviously a huge issue with regard to player retention, but I think it's a positive that the Curtises, Smith and Moore were all AAU teammates. I highly doubt Moore would have signed here if he thought those three were planning on leaving after a year.

I have no idea, but in this case it should be pretty easy to draw a distinction between the players he was personally involved in recruiting, and those he inherited. There are currently no open scholarships for next season, and UND is losing about 25 ppg from a team that can't seem to reach 50 in a game. He's going to need to make some tough decisions or else things aren't going to get better for at least two or three years.

USD is currently 5-0, including a win at Kansas State, and they actually returned less scoring from last year's team than UND did. The difference is that USD's portal additions have been extremely productive. Their top seven scorers are from the portal, all averaging between 8 and 16 points per game. Aside from Ava Miller, we're just not getting close to that kind of production from our portal additions. Ultimately, I think high school recruiting dictates how successful long term a program is going to be, and that's going to take awhile for a new coach. But assuming there's another major roster shakeup after this season, he's going to need to do better in the portal to turn things around in the next few years.

I highly doubt there would be mutual interest anyway. But that is the type of player Hutter is going to need to add in the near future. We desperately need scorers. Need to maybe take a run at Bergan Kinnebrew from Mary, if she's willing to leave Bismarck. Not recruiting her out of high school was a major mistake. She is every bit as good as her high school teammate Logan Nissley (now at Nebraska) in my opinion.

I would not be surprised if Kiera Pemberton is back in the portal after the season. She's playing three minutes per game for Baylor. Their game against UNLV was on CBS sports network last night, and she had one brief appearance late in the first half, but that was it as far as I could tell.

The shooting has been horrifically bad so far. All but two players are shooting 30% or worse. Demers and Aumer have done about what I thought they'd do in terms of scoring, and Ava Miller has been a very pleasant surprise. But you're not going to win many games scoring less than 70 in a game, and right now UND is not even averaging 50.

I don't see UND and Illinois State playing in the first round. That would presumably require SDSU to beat the Redbirds this weekend, which seems doubtful with the way things have been going for the Jacks the past month. I think ISU-red finishes 9-3 and gets a seed.
