Heidi Evans won the 1500 tonight. A very successful day for UND track!

Also, Matt Fick finished third in the javelin.
  3. Not that this really means anything with regard to football, but it was at least somewhat interesting that UND football recruits Brian Sorensen and Seth Wisthoff combined for five individual state titles this weekend (Sorensen also added a relay title), while NDSU's two North Dakota recruits (Vetter and Horner) mostly struggled. Vetter failed to make an individual event final, and Horner was unable to even qualify for state in an individual event.
  4. Sorensen won the 100, 200 and 400 today. Wisthoff won the shot with a very respectable 59-plus foot throw.

Seth Wisthoff won the shot put, also.
  6. At the ND state track meet today, Seth Wisthoff tied Jim Kleinsasser's class B record in the discus, and Brian Sorensen had the fastest class B prelim times in the 200 and 400.
  7. Apparently not only is Porter coming back, but he's also going to be on scholarship: link
  8. I agree with your statement. However, while I don't know the whole story, and maybe there simply wasn't a better alternative, it seems to me that compliance director may be a little too important of a job to give to a recently-fired soccer coach as part of his "reassignment" until his coaching contract expires in another month or so.
  9. While I'm disappointed in Chappell, I still believe he's a good kid who will hopefully really buckle down and get his grades in order. This episode really makes me appreciate Weston Dressler even more--great athlete, great kid AND great student.
  10. I suspect this may mean Mitch Sutton won't be red-shirting.
  11. I guess the question to me is whether it's positive in a community the size of Grand Forks to have virtually all of the $250,000-plus homes in town located in one district? Both districts have plenty of low and moderate-priced homes, but only the Red River district has large numbers of higher-priced homes.
  12. link Thoughts? I say yes. I've thought this pretty much ever since the flood.
  13. Without really knowing ASU's title IX situation, I guess what surprises me a little is that they didn't cut one women's sport also. For example, it would seem they could have cut wrestling, plus men's and women's tennis (or alternatively men's and women's swimming), and still be in a better position title IX-wise than they were before. It seems a bit extreme to cut three men's sports but no women's sports, unless they were way, way out of compliance with title IX.
  14. This news made my day!
  15. One could be 6'7" sophomore Bryan Kielpinski from Mandan. I've never seen him play, but he was all-WDA this past year, and he has two sisters who were great high school players so he's evidently got good bloodlines.
  16. At the dI level, don't you have 13 scholarships which can't be split? In other words, isn't everybody now either getting a full, or else they get nothing at all?
  17. The recruiting class is finally officially announced: link
  18. I guess to me, it's an apples to oranges comparison. Koenig and Mertens were three years apart in high school (Koenig was a 2003 grad; Mertens a 2006 grad), and they played different positions. Sadly, we'll never know what Koenig may have been, because injuries rendered him a shadow of what he once was athletically. Hopefully Mertens fares better.
  19. Besides Mertens, any word on which of the incoming recruits may not red-shirt? I suppose it may depend in part on the status of players like Harkins (is he actually going to be able to play?), and Dumas/Porter/Joseph (are they returning?).
  20. Mertens is enough of an athlete that both UND and NDSU recruited him heavily for football. At 6'4" or 6'5" with great leaping ability, he was a very intriguing prospect at receiver.
  21. IMO, if one were to judge purely on talent alone (and not necessarily position or years of eligibility remaining), only Woodside, Winkelman, Nelson, Tveidt and Carlson are any better players/recruits than the three North Dakotans UND signed this year. Obviously the Bison Dan's, JBB's, etc. of the world will vehemently disagree, but would anybody expect anything else from them?
  22. I believe they were in the upper-50's as of last season.

    Stroup

With Stroup done, and Bodoh's injury situation being uncertain at best, the weakside OLB position is looking like a problem. Besides Giles, who else is there? I assume red-shirt freshmen, although I have no idea who else practiced at the position this spring.
  24. Another UND recruit having a lot of track success is Brian Sorensen from Hazen. He has the top time in class B in the 200--an impressive (particularly for his size) 22.24.
