  1. YaneA, I like the "nice" ones, especially the banner/no manners one. Of course they're facetious, that's what makes them funny.
  2. Would you "hot doggit" (what the hell is that?) against nasty Gopher fans, or try to whip them like the redheaded step-children that they are? I think we all know the answer to that question. With all the happy, "let's hold hands" attitudes floating around here, I can see that I'm going to have to drop the timid, nice guy coaching style and adopt a hard ass, in your face style.
  3. I agree that this stuff gets old, but there has to be some credibility to these letters. At the football game against Winona State, there were numerous males sitting around me that insisted on calling the Winona players and cheerleaders "faggots" because their uniforms were purple. Since we were sitting in the first row close to the aisle, there were a bunch of Winona supporters and parents that came down by us to take pictures and watch practice, and they were not happy. Now, I don't exactly have the cleanest vocabulary at sporting events, but I personally think that is taking it too far. Especially when I heard that word about 100 times in the span of a couple hours.
  4. I'm beginning to think you watch the big screen more than the ice. The camera guy between the players' benches is right across from where we sit, so he usually puts us on the big screen every weekend. It also doesn't hurt that my friends sitting in front of me were drunk and willing to act like morons. The signs looked good, but someone told me at work today that he didn't understand them when he saw them.
  5. No, but I've contemplated taking a blank sign and a black marker into the arena. It's just a question of motivation.
  6. My first reaction is to cover my face with the sign. You know the students are in fine form when the (DU) players spit in their faces and slash them across the collar bone from the penalty box. Good stuff. I thought we needed a sign that said something like "Keith doesn't swallow, he spits," but no way would that get through security. There were more students present during warmups than there has been all season, and they were loud. I think everyone missed having home hockey games every weekend.
  7. Ewwwww. My innocent mind shouldn't be reading of such things!
  8. jk, don't worry about skill level, we're just there to have fun. Don't get me wrong, if we don't kick POI ass out there this year, there will be repercussions. But still, it will be fun. Hell, I'd play if I could skate worth a damn. As WPOS pointed out, the SiouxSports team did just fine last year with a short bench and without having played together before. With some of the same skilled players back this year and a full bench, it should be pretty competitive. The rouser before the game was just a punch in the gut that made you want to beat POI even more, so bring it. But I will not be outclassed this time. I'll dig out my old prom dress if I have to WPOS. Apparently jeans and a t-shirt is tacky for a coach to wear.
  9. I liked sports alright in high school, but I had the mindset that I would rather play them than watch them. My freshman year at UND in 2000, I went to the season opener and was hooked ever since. I couldn't believe how crazy everone was (mainly the students) over a hockey game. After that I wrote a 10-page English paper on hockey so that I could learn the rules and follow the game better. So I picked "I went to UND."
  10. I don't know about these guys, but you can buy me anything. I like free stuff.
  11. Diggler, you should have majored in creative writing or something. The last two days definitely had that sting to them. I think Monday would have been cancelled if it weren't for the fact that there were already no classes on either Monday of the first 2 weeks of school. We had to move our vehicles out of our parking lots this morning where I live so that they could clear the snow, and a friend and I both got ours stuck in the snow out in the street. After we got out of class around 5:00 we spent about a 1/2 hour trying to dig/push our cars out of the snow before someone stopped to help us. He even turned down a free beer and a meal! That's ok, we went ahead with him. Things always look better after a beer and some blackjack.
  12. Updated roster: jk mksioux 747guy Fire Chartreuse Musky Killer and friend bacardio Kirk MinnesotaNorthStar Goalie: stuckinfargo roper and siouxtupa are maybe's Bertibm, it looks like we'll have a team for sure, so let us know when you decide to reserve the ice.
  13. Jello-Wrestling?
  14. For those of you who are interested in playing that didn't play last year, this is how it went. I organized the team and paid the $120 to reserve the ice (each team paid $120). Since I didn't play and that is a fortune to me, I asked that everyone who played send me their name, phone number, and address as some sort of insurance that I would be reimbursed. The goalie doesn't pay, so it ended up being $12/player, and everyone just paid me cash at the game. The guys who played last year don't need to send me their info; I kept it just in case we played again this year. Anyone is welcome to play. For cripes sake, there was a guy who played for POI last year who had to be a good 250. There were only 7 players last year, and they all were pretty gassed to say the least by the end of the game, so with 10 players hopefully it won't be quite as bad. Anyone who doesn't want to play should come and watch, because it was fun last year!
  15. I'll let the players answer that question. I'm guessing most of them have played at least at a high school level. I just don't want this to get lost among all the bitching about games that are already done. We still need 4 players!
  16. Sounds like Grant may be out for the season. I don't like to hear that. The Potulny brothers had no luck against the Sioux this year. Kind of reminds me of the Eaves brothers and their bad luck last season and now this season (the broken knee).
  17. I totally agree.
  18. Boy there sure is a lot of complaining after a good weekend of hockey. Am I the only one that though Shepherd did alright this weekend? After the first period, I thought for sure the Sioux were going to go home with a sweep. Would have been a good feeling. But the Gophers came back out during the second period and reminded us who we were playing. For the first time all season, I actually thought it looked like our players were getting a little gassed toward the end of the series. There was a good chunk of time where Gopher players were winning every race to the puck and causing turnovers in the 3rd. This would be a very interesting matchup indeed in the postseason. Some positives I can take out of the weekend: most of us knew that a split was the most likely result, so there really isn't a whole lot of disappointment. Our goaltenders, while I didn't always think they had great positioning, are finding ways to make the saves. JPar and Brandt both played well this weekend, but I still am more comfortable with Brandt in net. The Gophers were only 1-12 (?) on the powerplay, and that one PP goal was a 5-3. Like Woog said at one point, Blais is able to just roll through the lineup and send the next two guys out on the ice for the PK, and it's looking good. I think our own powerplay is finally starting to look up as well. It was fun watching the Sioux play a team who can skate with them. I say good games to both teams.
  19. Actually, he just emailed me and said he will play. jk mksioux 747guy Fire Chartreuse Musky Killer and friend bacardio Goalie: stuckinfargo We just need 4 more skaters. Wantagh, if by chance you are in the cities, drop by anyway. It's too bad some of you guys actually want to go somewhere besides the Final Five for Spring Break.
  20. Just got back from Buffalo Wild Wings, where we heard some great classics at Karoake. The roster is updated to 5 players and a goalie. jk mksioux 747guy Fire Chartreuse Musky Killer and friend Goalie: stuckinfargo
  21. Count me in, even though I suck at BeerDarts. I'll be juiced before the game even starts! Morley, my bad, I thought you said you wanted to play. Back down to 3 players then. jk mksioux 747guy Goalie: stuckinfargo And yes, it is in the Minneapolis area. EDIT: I just got an email, we'll have the same goalie from last year.
  22. You wish. 747Guy, good I just emailed you. It would have been fun to have the rematch in Grand Forks when the Gophers played here, who knows what happened. Ha, dirty mouth, well you're right about that anyway. So we're up to 4 players. jk morely 747guy mksioux
  23. I just emailed everyone else that played last year, but the really good guy (in the red breezers and green helmet...no offense to everyone else who was also good ) that was on the team last year doesn't have a working email address anymore. At least not the one I had from last time. So Fire Chartreuse Musky Killer, if you still read the message boards and want to play, let us know.
  24. Hey I screamed my little heart out for an evenly played game! It was fun a lot of fun last year. The SiouxSports team definitely needs a full roster though. And if mksioux can convince the goalie from last year to play, POI is going down. I'll be the coach (well let's face it...watergirl) again if no one else is up for it. My only coaching abilities, as I found out, were dropping F bombs to the POI team and telling the Sioux goalie to hold the puck and give his skaters a rest. morely, does your brother want to play too? Looks like so far the team would be: morely jk mksioux
