That would be incredibly dumb for those low seeded teams that were going to play 1 maybe 2 more games to get an entire season. I’m not saying you hand select who gets another year either.  I feel bad for the players but that would be ridiculous.

Not saying it is the best decision, just something that was mentioned.

NCAA has granted all spring sport athletes an additional year.

They're currently discussing winter sports as well. How about another year for Marlon?

Marlon’s career ended Tuesday night. They are talking about another year for those seniors that were still playing or had already qualified for the Big Dance. Ward and Vinnie would be invluded, although I really doubt Ward would come back.

Although they have different games and styles, I'm looking at DAE similar to Quinton Hooker.  I knew QH in high school, and was really excited when he chose UND.  After his true freshmen year there were some rumblings that he was already a bust and overrated, etc.  But starting year 2 with more time in the program he really came into his own and is one of the all time greats.  DAE had his struggles as a freshman, but I think he has all the tools to really bring it all together starting in year 2 and I'm really looking forward to seeing him develop.

I'm in agreement with everyone above - DAE and Rebraca are big pieces moving forward, but we really need to replace Stewart and get some more pieces/depth to really be a team that will make some noise.  I'm going to guess in two years Sather will have this team in a really good position.

I think comparing DAE to Hooker is a stretch. Hooker was a really good to great player in a mid-major conference that could single handily lead a team to a championship. DAE has a loooonnngggg way to go to reach that level. You need to build around Rebraca the next 2 years. I was kind of wishing NDSU had gotten DAE before the season started. I think I would take Eady and Griesel over him.

Seems strange to me that the tournament would be set up with such a big disadvantage for the 2, 3, 6, and 7 seeds.  Not getting a rest would definitely impact the result.  Do most league tournaments do that?

Rewarding teams that do well in the regular season is a good thing. The 1 and 2 seeds should get that advantage. It is the 3,4,5 and 6 seeds that would have to play 3 days in a row.

It was a serious question. I didn't watch the game (not a basketball fan in general) but the deeper a team goes in the playoffs, the more money comes back to the conference and its member schools. Financially that benefits UND as well.

It does, but I get UND fans perspective. It may have been better financially for the conference if UND had won. They almost certainly would have been in a play-in game and would have had a much better chance of winning that game than NDSU will have as a 15 seed playing a 2. I think I heard the play-in game gets a payment for the conference.

28 turnovers!!!!  No offense but run in the lane and throw up a shot!  COACH BREW NEEDS TO GO!

Brew explained all of the problems after the game. They are just too young. That is all. He is hoping that if he keeps saying how young they are and how much talent those freshmen have, he can buy himself an extension. Jack Michaels said out of 340 some D1 teams, UND is number 1 in total fouls committed. They have to be close to the top in turnovers. And there you have Brew's coaching philosophy. He prefers no possession, offense or defense, is longer than 10 seconds.

    Dons stun the Jacks!

That side of the bracket just got busted WIDE open.

USD/UND just became THAT much bigger

I am not sure playing PFW is any better than playing SDSU without Wilson. The whole mens SLT is wide open. Nobody should be more than a 5 point favorite. Very balanced 1-8.

The SS.com betting line to make the playoffs out of the MVC is at 2.5 years. What everyone got....under or over?

UND might get close to covering that line if the committee takes 5 MVFC teams like they probably should. If they only take 2 like most UND fans think the MVFC deserve, the over/under may be 10 years.

    With the kid the best.

While this rule is not new by any stretch, the more relaxed the transfer rules get, the more of a norm this will become for smaller schools.  He has definitely earned the opportunity.

I agree. I wish him the best.  But is is a good reason if the kid is at all good enough to contribute right away as a true freshman, play him.

I believe he had two years left, 2020 and 2021 by reading it, and they extended it two more years.  Seems like they could have waited one more year before granting an extension.  Only positive I can see from granting it now is for recruiting it takes lessens doubt of head coaching change.

Usually you give extensions to coaches that have been performing well and you want to make it harder for them to leave with a large buyout for leaving before the end of the contract. At this stage in Bubba's career, I don't think any AD will be knocking on Chaves door to talk to Bubba about a job anytime soon. And I really don't think people are going into recruits homes telling kids Bubba won't be around in a year or two.

I would bet he ends up in Kansas State or Wyoming.  Maybe UND will be playing against him at the KSU game.  Bison must be scratching their head.  Lol

I would bet the house he doesn't end up at Wyoming. That would do nothing for his NFL prospects. Plus, he has no ties to Bohl or that staff. Klieman recruited him to NDSU. My prediction would be he does leave, just a matter of where. Big 10, SEC or Big 12 would be my guess.

Remember this: Brewster wasn't hired by Chaves. Chaves will have every incentive to put his own guy in there, especially if the team isn't doing well.

Maybe that is why Jones left before he was let go? Maybe there is a feeling in the athletic dept now with Chavez that just because you are under contract your job may not be safe. I don’t think they will fire Brew after this year though with another year left on his contract. Larsen fired Walseth before hers ended, but he really had no choice.

Did you ask Ross how many phone calls, texts, Snaps, DMs or emails Maggie got from Walseth/NDSU in the recruitment process?

    The answer will astound you.

Are you saying they didn’t recruit her at all? It wouldn’t surprise me. I think Walseth didn’t think ND or ND girls were good enough for her.

Brew NEEDS to go! He quits coaching any time the team starts to slide. He never changes up his defensive scheme during a game. A little zone against USD would have at least showed he was trying to be competitive. Has anyone noticed how he consistently takes out the hot handed player when they are on a roll? Borowicz was on fire against SDSU and he subbed her out. He does it all the time. Makes no sense. I don't think he knows what he's doing out there. I believe he still has one more year on his contract. Anyone think Chaves would buy him out of his contract next year?

You have to wonder what his teams will look like if he is not going to have first choice on local talent (ND and NW Minn) like he has had since he became head coach. I think Collins will have a shot at some of those kids now. I saw Ross Manson at an NDSU Mens game a couple of weeks ago in his NDSU gear. I have to think after watching this year play out, he has to be thinking where was Collins a year ago. I know when Maggie made her decision there really wasn't much of  a decision to be made with Walseth at NDSU. And more goes into it than basketball. She may very well have chosen UND anyway. But as a basketball coach himself, he must look at the two coaches and think his daughter is getting cheated out of being coached into a better basketball player.

Because they flew to Fort Wayne.  But it was a 1 game week for them.  So they bus’d home because yes it did save them budget, but believe it or not when they factored of when they could get flights out, American/Delta/United with layovers etc. (All planned in the summer) Because there are no flights after the game. they got on the sleeper bus and were home sooner than they would have been home the next day flying commercial. Yes, both the Men & Women chartered to both ORU & WIU together this year. From what I understand that was what the Oregon State MBB check was used for.

I guess that makes sense. Most of the time I have checked, a one way ticket cost about the same as a round trip, but maybe not. I can’t imagine it saved much money if they actually flew out and bused home. But it must have saved a bit. If I were the players or coaches, I would have rather spent the night in Fort Wayne and flew home Sunday AM.

I have followed both schools through the year.  I have seen one team progressively get better (NDSU) and one team get progressively worse (UND) .  This in my opinion can only be from the coaching.   I think NDSU got a winner hire when they hired Collins, he took very average to below average players and made them competitive in most games.  UND I think has more talent on their team but has under performed all year long.   Very disappointed in the play.  I go to most the UND games but I don't think I could stand watching them any more.  They look out of control and throw up shots with out any reason.  They need to move on from Brewster or Collins NDSU teams will be years ahead soon.   NDSU will start winning any recruiting battles with their program and coach.

I think you are correct. It is a very small sample, but what I have seen from Collins is very impressive. And I think I heard Jack Michael’s say UND bussed home from Fort Wayne and on the same weekend the NDSU women chartered a flight into Western Illinois. I am not sure the circumstances, but that shows a different level of commitment to women’s basketball between the 2 schools.

I'm not saying that they will.  Is it possible? Of course.  Just like it is possible for UND to land her.

If NDSU is looking for their game changer for their program, she is the one to land.

I think the only way UND or NDSU land her is if she wants to go to a smaller school on a smaller city. And I would assume if she goes that route, UND would have the upper hand with her sister already on the team.

    Brain cramp.

Let’s try this:  ORU and UND win out and NDSU finishes as the 1 seed. I think that situation drops them to a 5 seed.

It’s a mess to figure out, the middle of the conference is a cluster.

You are going great just trying to figure it out. I know which two are 1&2, but not the order. After that it becomes very complicated.

Guarentee they are still pissed off about not getting Klein and Bellquist.

Probably. But they may be ok with the TE from Wisconsin they signed instead of Klein. And perhaps they think the Terhark kid from WF Sheyenne and Satter from Davies are better than Belquist, which is not far fetched idea.

They obviously think there are kids they evaluated this year that are worthy of an early offer. I don’t think they are worried about UND stealing in-state kids that NDSU wants. Look at which school has more ND kids contributing for them. I think NDSU is getting any ND kid they think can contribute.

USD has lost 3 in a row and now find themselves tied in losses with Omaha.  Their once strong hold on the 3 seed is now very precarious.  If they lose to UND on Saturday and Omaha and ORU win out and NDSU wins the league, then they are the 5 seed.  If they win, they are the 3.  Possible Seed range: 3-5

Good analysis except this one. If Omaha wins out, NDSU can't win the league, so I am not sure USD can be lower than a 4.

Fans always believe the officials are out to get their team. Yet they have never picked up a rule book or truly take the time to understand the rules. I have friends who officiate various sports and they have enlightened me to better understand rules. I don't pretend to be an expert, but I at least understand them better than most. The most surprising ones to me in basketball is there is no such foul as "over the back" or "reaching in". And when you talk about traveling there are things like "gathering the ball" that's a factor and establishing the pivot foot is different if you gain possession or stop dribbling and land with one foot on the ground first or both at the same time.

I do know college officials are assigned by the conference so they don't care at all who wins the game. And contact alone is not what causes the foul. It's very liberating to watch sports when you realize you don't understand the rules as much as you think you do.

Is blatant goaltending a judgement call? Maybe you know more than the rest of us.
